Chapter 1: New Prospects

The Wild West is full of dangers, and not just roaming Indian Tribes, or bandits out to steal your gold. Strange things go bump in the night in the unexplored reaches of the wilds. Native tribes have performed mystical rituals for generations to keep the dangers at bay, but western expansion is pushing them out, and the lines between worlds is forever being blurred like the scenery out of a train window.

A mix of Call of Cthulhu, Deadlands, Aces and Eights, this weird wild west game has a little bit of everything.

The big German hits the deck, and immediately starts trying to crawl for some sort of cover. He stays as low as possible, trying to make himself hard to hit.

Instinctively Jimmy lowers his body and withdraws his rifle, he scans the horizon looking for where the shot came from.

Firefight at the Ford

Post by Vardaen » Fri Jan 17, 2020 4:59 pm

Its reflex in the wild west, a gun shot means you draw your own. Your guns are in hand in seconds and you are down low moving forward with cover. The shot was a bit a way so you crouch and hustle with cation. Using a ridge line and some scrub bushes you move closer to the ford, you aren't far now. You another shot ring out, then a third.

No doubt about it, there something going on.

Then you crest the rise and look down at the river ford, there on the near side you see Colter and Penn both side by side hunkered down behind some light cover. They look harried, as they are talking and reloading their weapons. On the far side of the river you just make out a half dozen shapes of men. The flash of muzzle fire, and there is no doubt Penn and Colter are pinned down!

"That's Penn...!" Delton breathes for a second, counting the men in plain view, then whispers, "Huh... Uh, we're almost evenly matched... What do we do?"

His weapon quivers in his hands.

Jimmy hits the deck and crawls on his belly up to the ridge line, "if we don't help them they are going to get killed we need to give them some cover fire so that they can get into a safer position, we are going to have to fight." Seeing the dire situation Jimmy looks down his sights and fires upon the closest enemy.
Open fire on the guy that is by the river bend.

I should have label them, I'll do that. Let's label them 1 through 6, starting at the top and working down

Tobias follows Jimmy's lead. He pulls out his pistol, then crawls on his hands and knees up to the ridgeline and looks around. He really isn't that good of a shot, he was always more of a brawling and dueling man. But he also doesn't feel like running out into the open and getting a gut shot for his foolishness. The best he can do for now is take pot-shots, hoping he helps.
Fire on whomever Jimmy is as well.

So our first combat in CoC DDT so this may take me a bit to work through.

You guys catch them by surprise, so you all get to act once, then there will be normal initiative rounds. They also don't know you are there, so you all get a bonus die on your first shot.

Surprise: Gunslingers 75, Penn & Colter 70, Jimmy 65, Tobias 40, Delton 35

Round 1 Gunslingers 75, Penn & Colter 70, Jimmy 65, Tobias 40, Delton 35

I've added Hexes to the map, each one is 5ft so we can figure range.
Jimmy has his rifle out, laying prone on the ground. He lines up a shot on the nearest of the gunslinging cowboys. He takes a breath and holds it, its not often the man shoots another. He takes aim, and as the man rises up slightly he fires. *Boom* the Springfield fires straight and true and slams into the chest of the cowboy knocking him backwards to the ground, a blood stain quickly spreading over his chest.

Tobias follows, his pistol out. It has a much shorter range, and he's less of a crack shot than Jimmy. He holds the pistol out and fires at the next nearest man with a crack. The bullet zips past the man missing, but drawing his attention.

Everyone's attention turns to your arrival and Penn whoops, "The cavarly's arrived!"

Doc Vane....
Jimmy: Shoot #2: Ambush Bonus Die: Normal Range 55/+6 Success: 13 Dmg
Tobias: Shoot #3: Ambush Bonus Die: Long Range (Hard): 88/+9 Miss

So for the rolls I did it like this 55 was the base percent, the /+6 was the bonus die. So the best roll was 55 not 65. I'll do it that way when you get bonus or penalty die (-#)

Jimmy takes a second to steady his aim once again and trains his sights on the man at the river's bend, he holds his breath and smoothly pulls on the trigger.

The Doc steadies his sight on the same person Tobias just missed. He continues to shiver like he has done intermittently since they escaped the giant, bipedal goat creature they encountered with Tadoka. Then he sets his jaw, steadies himself and pulls the trigger.
Aim and shoot baddie #3
