It probably doesn't link to the image itself, and they're not always .jpg files.
I don't know what you mean by permalink, but is it something like this?
https:// imgur .com/xxxxxxx
What you want is the "direct link". You can simply drop the https at the beginning and add "i." and then tack on the extension at the end. For one of my images, that looks like this:
i.imgur .com/xxxxxxx.png
(don't forget to remove spaces)
The extension at the end depends on the picture itself, it could be in .jpg format or .png or anything else. The site doesn't change it, not that I know. Most in my gallery are either .jpg or .png images. If that picture for Coriolis is a .jpg then tacking on .jpg oughta be enough.

Figured it out.. with help from this and other posts - for some reason I had to upload the post then go back in to 'Edit' the image, and it gave options for link sharing. If i just tried to share the link from the image after i first uploaded it only gave one link which it called the Permalink, but that didn't have the file extension...
