Hi,

I used to use Photobucket to host images (maps etc) to link to the site but I have heard that they are making it a subscription only service ?

If that is the case, does anyone have any suggestions for a good (free) alternative?

Cheers.

I'd be interested in knowing as well.

You can still upload images for free I think, but to link to them from offsite, you need to pay. Which means for our purposes, it's no longer free.

So knowing about some alternatives would indeed be nice.

You can attach things to your post or ask admin for a directory.

I've just been using Imgur. Has worked fine for me so far, but I don't post that many images, just a few a month so far.

With Imgur, can you embed the image in the post, or just post a link to it?

As counseled by many others, you just do (Spoiler="Something")(img)THE LINK.jpeg(/img)(/Spoiler). Except you use [...] instead of (...)

Yeah imgur is probably the best. If you use the direct image URL (maybe called bbcode or forums link) text on the imgur page, and then use {img}URL_HERE{/img} (use hard brackets not curly brackets) you can embed the image directly into posts.

Using {spoiler} or {ooc} or {map} blocks around the {img} tags is usual protocol, so those on mobile/small screen browsers can expand if/when needed instead of messing up the display of the thread for them.
