LWAG: The Lost Caravan - Scene One, The Story So Far...

In the northern land of Sommerlund, it has been the custom for many centuries to send the children of the Warrior Lords to the monastery of Kai. There they are taught the skills and disciplines of their noble fathers.

The Kai Lords are masters of their art, and the children in their charge love and respect them in spite of the hardships of their training. For one day when they have finally learnt the secret skills of the Kai, they will be equipped in mind and body to defend themselves against the constant threat of war from the Darklords of Helgedad.

Ermanaric knocks an arrow and holds his bow forward, ready to draw and fire at any danger that should appear. Though he had never worked with this particular Kai before, he had no reason to doubt Storm Oak or his senses.

Kir looks more surprised than intimidating, theatrically raising his walking stick as though it were some sort of Staff of Power. He hopes the effect works, at least from a distance.

You can see the perimeter of a distant woodland stretching across the eastern horizon. Something catches your eye.

Focusing on the woods, you see a distinctly human silhouette framed between the trunks of to trees. It pauses for a moment before deliberately moving out of sight...
It's probably about a quarter of a mile from the side of the road where you've discovered the wagon tracks, to the edge of the trees where you saw the figure.

Kir nudges the Storm Lord with his elbow, nodding at the treeline. "Looks like you were right, there are people out there."

Ermanaric narrows his eyes, keeping focus on the distant place the figure disappeared from view.

"That figure wanted to be seen. We are meant to follow. This is an ambush setup. We should proceed with caution."

The tracks made on the edge of the road seem to head off in the direction of the figure to the east.
What do you want to do? There's about a quarter of a mile of open fields between you and where the figure was but the wagon tracks head that way.

Kir drops the pose, feeling like he looked very silly. "Well, if we anticipate a trap, it's not much of one. We aren't exactly going to get caught unawares. Might be naive, but I think we should go up and talk to whomever that person is. If he's part of the ambush, we have our enemy. If not, at least we aren't standing here like fools."

"Ambush or not, we follow. Be ready." Storm Oak readies his shield and spear and starts after the figure. He starts off across the open ground, taking point, shield up, he expects perhaps a few arrow shots so he moves with purpose and speed. "Come on, come out in the open where we can talk!"

Ermanaric follows behind Oak Storm, flanking and fanning out to the side, keeping close to the treeline and keeping his eyes in the trees. He keeps his bow ready, but undrawn.

It takes several tense minutes to cross the clearing to the treeline where the figure was last seen, however there is no ambush, nobody lying in wait.. At least not yet.

There are tracks however, obvious to anyone. Deep boot prints in the mud, leaving a trail to follow for anyone that cares to.
