Carver takes some thing, rope, a lantern and oil, a crowbar, an empty sack and some other minor items they might need. "350 is a deal, and this gear." He looks at the ladder down, "And chalk." He takes a handful of chalk and hands two pieces to each person, "Mark our way so we don't get lost along the walls."

He look again down the ladder, "Alright, let's go." He climbs down, lights the lamp, marks the wall with a big X and gets his bearings.

The heroes also get some chalk and a crowbar and then, lighting a torch, they move along the cavern. It does not take a lot of light, because Carver and Merisiel see well with low light, and Fumbus is very much at home in the dark. They walk on for ten minutes when...

Carver: r17+6=23
Fumbus: r16+3=19
Suddenly, Carver sees a faint light ahead, and he thinks he heard someone cough.

Carver stops, he whispers, "Look light, and I hear coughing." He lowers his own lamp and drops the shield over the light to prevent it casting more light out.

Merisiel whispers, "I'll go ahead and check out what it is." With that, she begins moving stealthily towards the source of the light and sound.

Merisiel sneaks forwards and soon comes back. She reports that around a corner, a rough looking, armed man is keeping watch in front of a door.

Merisiel adds in a whisper, "It seems more than a bit odd that someone is down here guarding a door to something without the knowledge of the hot spring's proprietor. We could try bullshitting him--come up with a story about how we got lost and see if we can get any information from him. I doubt we can get past him without a fight, but the more we learn first, the better equipped we'll be to deal with whatever's behind the door."

"Let's tell him we are reinforcements from those priests we saw. Might kill two lambs with one cleaver." The butcher's language is kinda distubing.

Merisiel says, "Hmm, interesting notion, but we've no idea if the priests are involved or a just a bunch of zealots."

Fumbus had already cocked a hand back, one of his vials in hand. With a disappointed look he lowers his arm, idly fiddling with the fragile alchemical bottle. "Fine, fine, we try talking our way in. If that doesn't work, I'm blowing people up." He frustratedly scratches a few parts of his body. "Really, really want to blow up the people that did this to me."

"Let's try using our words first, then you can blow people up you murderous pyro." He winks at Fumbus, but really means it. Some people are too eager to kill others. A life of seeing war has tempered the half orc's blade hand, and if its not a nice flank of beef Carver isn't keen on chopping things up. So Carver strides forward into view of the guard, "Hey there! Your times up, we are here to give you a break. The big boss sent us down here, been on duty far too long. Starting to seem ambitious, making the rest of us look bad." He just strides over like he owns the place, "Any news we need to know about before you get your little break?"
