GM Note: Each of these characters graduated from the academy the same year as Shur, and a year behind Alik.
Midshipman Serao Zh’rialrehr
Race: Andorian, main strain
Age: Mid 20s
Service Record: Serao is trained in communications and damage control. In an age when Star Fleet ships are each staffed primarily or exclusively by a specific race, Serao seeks opportunities to serve aboard alien ships. Since learning she would be serving aboard a human vessel, she has been giving herself a crash course on human languages and customs, while trying to adapt to their warmer temperature comfort zone.
There are two types of people who become Communication Officers: those with natural language talents, and the rare individuals who can effectively process multiple audio or visual stimuli simultaneously. Cadet Serao is one of the latter. For professional reasons, she has put much effort into studying languages, though she lacks any natural aptitude for it. The languages she has learned are all practical, non-exotic staples: Vulcan, Tellurite, Orion, Human, etc. She has learned a passing familiarity with about a dozen other languages—just enough to be able to identify the language when heard, without a deep comprehension of anything said. Klingonese is one such language for her. Shur soon realizes his knowledge of the Klingon language surpasses hers.
Midshipman April Weathers
Race: Human, Australian ethnicity
Age: Mid 20s
Service Record: April is trained in Helm operations. A woman of striking looks in a male-dominated profession, April is used to being surrounded by men and being the center of their amorous attention. She moves through social situations with practiced grace, neither alienating the friendship of her male peers nor committing herself to them romantically.
Cadet Weathers makes it her personal mission to make sure you are all friends. And so far, she has succeeded. The shell of the most introverted and anti-social colleague cracks under her personal attention. Even if you have nothing in common with her, you find yourself leaning in to hear what she has to say and reciprocating her smile when the two of you lock eyes.
Midshipman Miles Campeador
Race: Human, Spanish ethnicity
Service Record: Miles is trained in Security protocols. During his third year at the academy, Miles rose from complete obscurity to being the talk of the campus. That year, he was the judoka champion for his weight class, having won every bought that season without being thrown or pinned. His streak ended early in his fourth year and the fame and crowds faded, even though he won the judo championship again that year and was a varsity boxer. He disappeared altogether after graduation, though he seems to have finished Security Branch School.
Once at the Academy, Cadet Campeador walked into Shur Ijoda’s kendo class when he was looking for kempo karate. Shur had forgotten in incident until Campeador reminds him. He knows about Shur’s interest in the sword. When discussing fighting styles, Campeador frankly admits the superiority of any formalized armed combat system over any formalized unarmed system, even though he spends so much time and effort learning unarmed combat techniques. During his time at Security Branch School, Campeador was learning Caitian unarmed techniques.
