Chapter 3b: Polis Massa Base Exterior

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

As Uri is about to walk away, he pauses. A smile tries to tease its way out of him. Tomas' attitude feels familiar, and the kid has been behaving, but ultimately, the assurance needed for him to change his mind owes to the presence of the Jedi Knight. "No Tomas. Not everything that lives needs air to breathe. Come along, but stay and keep a lookout with Granite."

He holds his arm out to shepherd the boy to the Jedi Knight.

The two technicians look at each other and shrug, telling the Jedi that "There's nothing out there. The planet has been dead for centuries."

When he sees Uri's offer, the youngling smiles and proudly jogs to walk alongside Uri. As the youngling runs, dust kicks up from his footsteps and swirls within the lower gravity atmosphere. Uri and Tomas walk to Jedi Knight Granite who also appears ready to enter the crater. The three approach the crater, stopping at the raised rim of the crater, and looking down into it's interior.

"Whoa. It's big enough to put a starship inside!" Tomas exclaims, talking about the size of the crater.

The crater's walls are high enough to block visibility from the planetoid's surface. The interior of the crater is mostly smooth and covered in dust, like most of the planetoid's surface.

Around twenty meters away from them, several rocks in various sizes are scattering near the tunnel entrance. The rocks aren't very large and, in fact, they are around the same size or smaller than a womprat. Most might assume the rocks were likely expelled from the tunnel when it was created. Jedi Padawan Uri and Jedi Knight Granite both recall lifting stones such as these in their training.

"It could have been made from an impact during the destruction of the original planet. I'll set up the sensor and go look in the tunnel." Uri heads down quietly to the center of the crater.
Doing like I said, provided there are no interruptions, via Stealth.

Padawan Uri walks slowly trying to not kick up any unnecessary dust. With nothing within the crater, there's no visual obstructions. Behind him, Tomas follows Uri. The youngling mimics the posture and speed of Uri, stepping into Uri's footprints a few paces behind the padawan.

About ten or so meters from the raised rim's edge, Uri holds the sensor in one hand and has a better view of the tunnel. Inside of the tunnel, he notices shadows within the tunnel moving and then feels the ground shake under his feet. The shadows quickly disappear as he watches what appears to be a creature dive underground.

"What? What was that?" Tomas says as the ground shakes.

As they feel the localized tremors, they stand a few paces away from the designated location for the sensor beacon.

I knew it! Tomas' question gives Uri a start. He turns around, but rather than give him a scolding, he raises and to his lips to shush him. "That was one of the worms I read about. Now is not the time for questions. Stay where you are and wait for me."

Wishing he hadn't seen that, he continues apace, hoping that as soon as they place the sensor marker, they won't have to worry about anything coming up that tunnel.

init
Granite = 2 success
Uri = 2 success 4 adv
Tomas = 2 success

worm(s) = 2 adv

So all Heroes go first, then worms last. That'll be easy to track :)
Worm is underground (short range to Uri and Tomas)
Uri and Tomas are short distance ( up to "several" meters apart)
Granite is medium range (up to "several dozen" meters apart from Uri and Tomas)

You'd be at disadvantage trying to attack it when its underground, since you'd basically be stabbing blindly into the ground. if it surfaces, it will take a maneuver to come up and one to come down, so you'd get at least 1 round to hit it before it went back under

The Jedi and youngling feels the beast moving underground making slight rumblings and tremors around the crater. Based on those sounds and sights of the ground movement, Uri guesses that the worm is several meters away from himself and Tomas.

Okay, here's the actions:
Uri = 1 maneuver to "move" from current location to target
Uri = 1 maneuver to "place" sensor
Uri = 1 maneuver to 'activate' sensor
Uri = 2 maneuver to move to Tomas (or 2 maneuver for him to move to you), 1 to move within short, 1 to move to 'engage' (if you're trying to touch him)

Granite = 1 maneuver to move from med to short, 1 maneuver to move to engage (arms reach) of Uri or Tomas

All = 1 maneuver to draw lightsaber or weapon

"Actually - stay close and follow me!" He takes Tomas' hand and tugs it for emphasis.

He runs with Tomas toward the target area for the sensor and positions it, then hurriedly activates it. He looks around for a guiding hand from the Force, and notices some rocks near him and Tomas.

"Tomas, pick up those rocks and throw them as far as you can."
(Tomas uses 1 maneuver to follow Uri)
Three maneuvers (-1 Strain)
- Run w/ Tomas to center of crater
- Place sensor marker
- Activate sensor marker

I'm angling to have Tomas use the vibrations from the thrown rocks to trick the worm. He's probably got a throwing arm at least as good or better than Uri's.

As Uri hurries to plant and activate the sensor, the youngling Tomas runs after the padawan. As Uri thrusts the sensor into the planetoid's surface, Tomas reaches for a nearby rock. Uri then flips the switch to activate the link the sensor to the rest of the perimeter sensors.

"Are rocks suppose to do this?" Tomas asks. The youngling stands holding a rock glowing with a light blue aura. "It just started doing that when I picked it up."

Tomas
- maneuver to run
- maneuver to pick up rock

MWD / Granite is next, then worm

Granite goes into his role as bodyguard, drawing his lightsaber and rushing right into danger.
Spend 2 Strain to get the extra Maneuver. Draw Lightsaber (use my real Action), then double Maneuver forward to be Engaged with the others.
Rule Number 12: "A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head."

Granite ignites his lightsaber pike and rushes to stand alongside the Jedi padawan and youngling.

worm
1 maneuver = move
1 action = surface from underground

As the three stand near the activated sensor, they feel the ground shake. The tremors grow stronger and then erupt as the head of the worm bursts through the dust covered surface.

Image

A crown of bright black eye-like features surrounds the head of the worm. Within it's toothless mouth lies a long pink tongue. The creature is covered in rigid plates carapaces. The head is more than 3 meters in height and it's mouth is opened more than 2 meters, which is large enough for a full size human to stand upright within.

Combat, round 2
init: Heroes, worm

Jedi Knight Granite stands with his lightsaber pike ignited in hand. Jedi Padawan Uri has planted and activated the sensor and the Jedi youngling stands holding a rock with a light blue aura.

worm is 'short' range away from you, so it would require 1 maneuvers to move to engage
