Chapter 2: Hither

Once every eight years, the fantastic Witchlight Carnival touches down on your world, bringing joy to one settlement after the next. Its owners, Mister Witch and Mister Light, know how to put on a good show. But there’s more to this magical extravaganza than meets the eye!

The carnival is a gateway to a fantastic Feywild domain unlike anything found on the Material Plane. Time has not been kind to this realm, however, and dark days lie ahead unless someone can thwart the dastardly schemes of the Hourglass Coven.

Trixie, back in the fray, zips toward her comrades' common target and lets loose with an arrow.
Moved and shot arrow at Brigand 1. Assuming I did the rolling in Roll20 correct, looks like a nat 20 for a crit. 11 damage total.

Chapter 2: Thither

Post by ManWithDoor » Tue Dec 26, 2023 4:07 am

Quill and Jack surge forward to jump the brigands in return, the gnome doing a fast rush while the harengon quite literally leaps to business. A longsword and rapier flash brightly, and one of the criminals collapses instantly.
Both hit. Poor Brigand #1 is suuuuper dead.
Seeing her companions take down her intended target, Trixie pivots to the right and instead takes out the other villain flanking the leader.
Brigand #3 killed as well.
Shiloh instead seeks to to shut down their leader, charming her into inaction. Even with the violence going down, Jebbek has been caught off guard by the magical enchantment. She shakes her head in disbelief, crying out asking why everyone is fighting. They're all friendly here!
Jebbek Wisdom Saves (advantage b/c violence): 11, 12 - both Fail!
---

The two remaining hostiles that were herding the giant slug pull out light crossbows, and both loose bolts at the nearest enemy - Quill! The first shot goes high and disappears into the fog, but the second manages to hit her in the arm. Ouch!
Brigand #4 Attack vs Quill: 7, Miss
Brigand #5 Attack vs Quill: 21, Hit for 7 damage.
The party responds ...

So, should we assume everyone is holding their action till we can see if Jebbek can get her comrades to stand down?

Chapter 2: Thither

Post by ManWithDoor » Tue Jan 09, 2024 8:02 pm

The brigand leader rushes back towards her compatriots, raising her hands and yelling for them to stop. They are incredibly confused, but put up their arms and back away. She explains, in a way that doesn't really make sense, that these are her friends and they should leave in peace. One of the slug-handlers tries to argue back that they're easy marks, and that just a second ago she was saying to beat them up.

But Jebbek has the personality to run rough-shod over the others, and they soon shut up and just follow orders. They pick up their downed members, binding their wounds and putting them astride the giant slug until they can get back to camp. Jebbek apologizes profusely to Shiloh for the whole misunderstanding, saying that she'd love to spend time to catch up but has to get back to camp to report in. She's still got her job to do, and despite friendship she's got to make a living.
Shiloh - Persuasion check vs Jebbek (giving Advantage since Charmed): 1 or 17, choosing 17. 17+5 = 22, Success.

Well done on ending the fight so quickly!

"Thank you for straightening out the misunderstanding," says Shiloh to Jebbek, patting her on the shoulder. "Do you know anything about the balloon we saw go down near here? Can you tell us how to get to it? And do you have a map of the area we could use?"
Persuasion 5: 7. Well, I guess we're not getting any more information.

Confusion, awe, relief, and some disappointment jumble together within Quill without fully blending before they settle. As Jebbek settles her clan down, she dips the blade of her weapon into the swamp as she wanders back to where she and Jack started the fight. She wipes the flat sides on her pant leg before considering it adequately clean to shove back into its sheath.

"Hey, not bad..."
Jebbek considers you a friend for now, so I think you're good on information, until you ask her to go out of her way for you.

Jebbek shrugs. "Sorry, can't give you exact directions. This is the Feywild, you know? Things like feet or leagues somehow find a way to change on you every time you look. You just develop a sense for it after awhile. Although come to think on it, we're not too far from the Slanty Tower. I didn't see any balloon through the fog ..." she checks with her fellow brigands for a moment "... and none of my lads saw anything either. But if these people knew the area, they might have made for the Tower for shelter."

She checks her men one last time, then starts them marching off on their original path south. "Good luck out there. I just stick to the roads, I don't wander around checking out magical tilting towers. No money in that." Jebbek gives a friendly wave and then heads off into the fog.
Rory is correct. You're a "friendly acquaintance" according to the spell description, so if it isn't particularly inconveniencing she'd be happy to chat a bit. But once the 1hour duration is up, the friendliness and ends she'll know she was Charmed. She'll likely be extra hostile if you run into each other in the future. :D

"Thank you!" calls out Shiloh. She turns to the others and says, "Well, let's head in the direction of the balloon and if we see the Tower before we get there, we can pay them a call."
Understood. Jebbek just seemed in such a rush that I thought I might need to roll.

Jack looks down at the slain Harengon. It was a little shocking for him, as he had never killed someone in battle before. He quickly hides his misgivings, turning to his friends with a smile and quipping, "Quite a 'reunion,' wouldn't you say?"
