Quill

Name: Vemsy Tillywinks
Race: Forest Gnome
Sex: f
Class: Fighter

Lost Things - Vemsy cannot be inspired or emotionally stirred by music, (she substitutes with alcohol or swordplay) and cannot gain Inspiration until she recovers this.

Appearance
This sharp-featured maiden appears and comports herself like a barn cat - a light and robust warrior scarred from skirmishes, more at home in the farmer's field than in his house. Garbed in a cloak and scavenged chain mail, she wears the look of one who has wandered and seen much of the countryside. Underneath the ensemble, she wears a thoroughly embroidered vest that hugs her waist.

Quill is reserved and seldom finds friends, but becomes a chatterbox among those she considers family. She finds solace in her hobbies, swordsmanship and the brewing of ale, which make up for her lack of personal magnetism. She also enjoys feeding Welcome, her pet porcupine and one of the few friends she has made among animals. She takes pleasure in flexing the fighting skills she learned from her brother and in playing tricks on strangers with illusions, but ultimately will never let someone come to harm through her neglect, and will never abandon an ally in danger.
Tilly Tunnel was a gnome burrow like any other, populated by cheerful, albeit self-isolated, forest gnomes. Vemsy play-fought with her older brother Bribis, but when he left the burrow, it was as if the sun had been covered up by clouds. Vemsy started chasing animals in the forest, but this wasn't enough to fill the void. She quietly rebelled to the disappointment of many, who nonetheless believed it was only a phase. When Bribis began visiting, whom Vemsy was begrudgingly let out to meet, he taught her how to fight, and eventually invited her to join his adventuring party, a mercenary band called The Bronze Eagles. Vemsy packed up, telling her parents and running out, not giving them time to stammer out a protest, carrying her pet porcupine and wincing as she got pricked through the fabric of her clothes.

For a few years, Vemsy's time with The Bronze Eagles was exhilarating. She chose "Quill" for a nickname that would be easy to remember for folks in the outside world, and to be taken more seriously as a sword-for-hire. Bribis already went by "Goose", and warmed the others up for her. Vemsy picked up brewing from the taverns they visited, and was gifted a special strand of brewing yeast from a client from the chilly lands to the north, as part of her payment for a job. Since then, Vemsy always spends some of her share on supplies to brew a quick batch of ale. This earned her a special place among the band.

Many months before Bribis' disappearance, he had promised to teach Vemsy how to use magic to fight like he does, starting with the fundamentals of arcane theory. Vemsy found him missing in the morning on the day after he showed her the basics of practical spellcasting, so that she could practice between sessions. The other members of The Bronze Eagles were equally at a loss, and offered to help her search, although it would be a long time before a lead turned up, and eventually, Bribis had shown himself to be the glue that held the group together, as they divided and forgot their own code, which he had helped to outline. It was disheartening for Vemsy, not only to lose her brother, but see everything he worked hard for start falling apart in his absence.

Then one night, Vemsy received a secret message from a mysterious sender telling her that he could help her find her brother, and her alone, if she would do a job for him. She agreed, and after leaving a note for a Bronze Eagle with whom she had been close, she left for where her new client directed her: the town where the Witchlight Carnival would next appear.

Name: Shiloh Briarroam
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Gender Identity: Cisgender Female
Age: 18 years
Background: Entertainer
Class (Archetype) & Level: Bard (n/a) 1
Alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance and Demeanor: Shiloh is a not-quite adult halfling woman. She has a mass of unruly, curly red hair, that she has let grow long, but she tries to keep tied back and under control as much as she can. She is fair skinned and blue eyed, with a ready smile and a twinkle in her eyes. She generally dresses is clothes that are both appropriate for the long road, but also elegant looking. She is outgoing and cheerful, always happy to meet new people and visit new places. Indeed, she often seems actively hungry to do so. But, when she lets down her guard, others can see there’s a deep sadness underlying her sense of good cheer.

Backstory
Shiloh grew up in … well, that’s part of the problem. She can’t remember where she grew up. She does remember her family though. She comes from a long line of well-known adventurers. She grew up learning songs and stories about her ancestors and makes good use of them in her trade as a bard. She also hopes they will one day guide her home.

Shiloh’s mother Eleina was a master archer, while her father Horace was a healer and priest. She had nine younger and older siblings, all of whom showed some talent that was likely to set them on the path of being adventurers. But she was the one who was gifted at learning the songs and stories. She also was headstrong with a good dose of wanderlust, even at a young age, constantly wandering away from her parents’ care. No matter how lost she got or what kind of trouble she got into, she could never refrain from letting her curiosity take her off on her own to some place she wasn’t supposed to go.

When the Witchlight Circus came to town, her parents refused to bring the children, having heard somewhat odd things about its reputation. Shiloh snuck out of the house and into the circus, drinking in all the strange sights. When she had had her fill, she snuck out again. But the place she was in was clearly not her home town. It was as if the circus had somehow whisked her far away. Eventually, she sought help at a local temple. But when they asked her about her hometown, she found she couldn’t remember its name or anything else about it. She broke down crying in fear. The temple took her in and raised her as an orphan.

As soon as she was old enough—indeed, perhaps before she was old enough—Shiloh struck out on her own as a wandering bard. She is desperately seeking a way back to the home she can’t remember and the family she still loves.

Name: Trixiphenelia "Trixie" Greenmantle
Sex: Female
Age: 18ish?
Race: Fairy (Fey)
Size: Small
Class: Rogue (Going into Arcane Trickster at level 3)

Personality: Possessing a kind and energetic disposition, Trixie has a large degree of childlike wonder. Magic in particular fascinates her, as do things that seemingly have no explanation. She is fond of playing tricks and struggles with the concept of ownership, though she has learned that people generally do not appreciate when she "borrows" things without permission. She will borrow things or play tricks on people from time to time, but never maliciously and her tricks are usually in good fun. Trixie is eager to make friends quickly, but grumpy people usually end up the target of her antics as they need to cheer up.

Background: Trixephenelia may be a fey creature, a fairy to be exact, but her original home was not the Feywild. She guards her past jealously, but she will freely admit that she has been with the Witchlight Carnival for 10 years - "Ever since I was a wee sprite," she'll say. Having snuck in as a child, she decided to stay and has belonged to the Carnival ever since doing odd jobs, occasionally performing with her flute, and getting into the occasional bit of mischief.

Name: Jack Swiftfoot
Sex: Male
Age: 20ish
Species: Harengon (Small)
Class: Rogue

Personality: Jack is an eternal optimist, and always looking for fun, whether it's good food, good music, or good company. In the carnival, he is frequently seen playing his fiddle, performing a card trick, or juggling. He always enjoys the company of children and the young at heart. He is prone to dramatic flourishes and relishes an audience, frequently speaking in verbose and sometimes non-sensical language. His humor is generally playful and good-natured, and generally only reserves his barbs for bullies and people who are deliberately mean.

Background:Jack was born in a peaceful warren in a forest near the local swamp. Like most Harengons, Jack was carefree and always quick to find a reason to smile. Then one day the Witchlight Carnival came to their area. It was a beautiful and wonderful place, everything a young boy could hope for. Everyone from the surrounding area came to see it; the elves, the gnomes, even the normally grumpy humans and half-orcs who lived on the other side of the forest!

The young Harengon made his way through the carnival, even happier than ever as he enjoyed all the performers, strange creatures, and delicious treats offered. While he was walking through the crowd, he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Almost in a trance, he made his way to her and introduced himself. She smiled, and they spent the evening at the carnival side by side, dancing, eating candy, and walking hand in hand. At the end of the night, Jack promised the girl he would see her again as soon as he could and reluctantly left the carnival with his family to return home.

The next day, Jack told his parents and siblings about his night as they had breakfast. When his mother asked about the girl, Jack became very confused. Despite his best attempts, he was unable to remember the girl's name or what she looked like. Things only became more worrisome when they noticed that a purple heart-shaped patch of fur had appeared over where Jack's heart was.

At first, Jack travelled throughout the forest, visiting all who had gone to the carnival, in the hopes that he would find the girl or someone who would know. This turned out to be fruitless, especially since Jack was unable to remember the girl's name or appearance. Jack's parent took him to see an old wise Satyr who lived deep in the woods. While she was unable to cure Jack, she was able to tell Jack and his family that he was under the power of fey magic, and that he needed to find the girl, for she had taken his heart.

Now in possession of this knowledge, Jack awaited the return of the Witchlight Carnival, in the meantime learning to play music and perform again. When at last the carnival returned, Jack bid his warren farewell, promising to return once he found the girl. He joined the Witchlight Carnival, and has travelled with it ever since, hoping to find the girl in one of the many places they visit.
