Coriolis: Personas of the Third Horizon

Zenith heralded the dawn of a new era – and the Horizon blossomed once again. Three dozen star systems, linked by fate and by the will of the Icons, wandered together towards a brighter future. But as the Emissaries arrived, the happy days drew to a close, and the Dark between the Stars slowly came creeping back.

GROUP PATRON

LEA MARHOUN

Lea Marhoun is a Zenithian antiques dealer based in the Monolith on Kua. They specialise in the trade of artefacts and archaeological findings, mostly from the dig sites on Kua, though they are interested in relics and other items from around the Third Horizon. A member of the Zenithian Trade Alliance, Lea is a well-established figure in the Sheva Plaza, with connections across the Kua system and beyond. They appear to be wealthy and influential within Zenithian social circles, though they have not shown a tendency towards ostentatious behaviour and their operations at the moment are relatively low key compared to some.

Lea looks around 20-30, though it is quite difficult to pin down their actual age due to their clothing, makeup and possible biosculpting. They are of average height and when you’ve met them in person, they have worn a beautifully embroidered caftan and dupatta which makes it hard to determine their exact physique. Their eyes have been various colours, no doubt the work of coloured contact lenses.

Associates

Lea Marhoun has many associates they can call upon, from peddlers on Kua and Coriolis to pilots and bodyguards.

GROUP NEMESIS

ABDUL NASR

A member of the Free League, Nasr is a merchant who specialises in acquiring and selling technological artefacts. They are based on Coriolis, operating out of one of a number of establishments in the busy Ozone Plaza. Rumour has it that Nasr has connections with all manner of shady characters, including the Syndicate. He apparently has some degree of immunity from the Coriolis Guard as they never seem to connect him to anything criminal, despite goods regularly being fenced in his shops.

Abdul Nasr is a thin man, approaching old age. He is usually swathed in dark clothing and seems to perpetually wear eye-glasses, a monocle or some form of jewellers’ lens. Very little is know about his personal habits as nobody has been able to get close to him, as he is surrounded by hired muscle and other peddlers from the Ozone Plaza.

Name: Zaynab Zanam
Gender Identity: Cisgender Female
Age: 25 years
Appearance and demeanor: Zaynab is a young woman with hazel eyes and long, unruly, curly black hair that she generally keeps in check with a loose headscarf. She wears a practical flight suit with a brightly colored, fashionable kameez over it. Zaynab is generally cheerful and outgoing, always happy to meet new people, visit new places and learn new things. She is also, however, extremely by the book and becomes agitated if forced to depart from the standard way of doing things.

Image

Origin: Firstcome of Algol
Upbringing: Plebian
Concept: Pilot: Freighter Pilot
Icon: The Faceless
Personal Problem: You prefer operating rigidly by the book and get anxious if forced to depart from it by circumstances.

Background
Zaynab grew up in a large, poor family in the slums of Algol. Her family was loving and they generally managed to have enough food on the table for everyone, but Zaynab nonetheless felt confined by her circumstances. Whenever she could get her hands on a new book or video, she would devour it, eager to learn about the world beyond her neighborhood. She dreamed of traveling and exploring. She might, perhaps, have been happiest as a scholar, but that was not in the cards for someone of her background and she never gave it serious thought. Instead, she worked hard to become a space pilot, which would give her the opportunity to travel and see the Third Horizon. After much hard work and dedication, her dream came true. She was thrilled to begin working for antiquities dealer Leah Marhoun, for it gave her a chance to learn about the rare items they traded in and therefore more of the history of the Third Horizon. In other circumstances, Zaynab might have been a free spirit, given her love of travel and meeting new people. But she got where she did by working hard and knuckling under. She fears if she does not continue to play by the book all she has achieved can be taken from her.

Fayz al-Miran
Soldier (Legionnaire)
Firstcome
Birthday: 8 light Gambler (28 years old)
Plebeian
Reputation: 1

Talents
-Everything Is For Sale
-The Gambler's Talent
-Cybernetic Limbs

Appearance:
Fayz is a tall, tanned man with a perpetual scruff and a quiet demeanor. He wears simple clothing, usually a kaftan with a dupatta. From a distance or when covered up, he appears normal but any glimpse of his limbs or torso shows obvious, symmetrical patterns of purple-grey flesh where his musculature as been augmented or replaced with cybernetics underneath his skin. He has several tattoos, relating both to his time in the Legion and in homage to the Gambler, although no images of the Icon (which he would consider hubris).

Personality:
Fayz is a devout man who believes in speaking plainly and directly. It takes a while for him to open up to others. He doesn't lie or evade about his past and how he ended up in his current state, but he won't offer up too much information, mainly because he doesn't want to rehash what he considers his bad choices in his head. On the job, Fayz is extremely professional. He is polite, unobtrusive, and capable of violence at a moment's notice when the situation demands. When docked at a station, Fayz usually first hits up a chapel for an offering or an iconoscope, then he finds his way to the seedier locales to drink, smoke, or gamble his cares away.

History:
Fayz grew up in the Mira system, away from the cities and temples that dominate most of the landscape. Many of his kinfolk thought that he would become a Medicurg or teacher for the settlement. When he became an adult, he joined several other kinsfolk his age to fulfill the obligation of the Mission and the Pilgrimage, a relatively easy trip for them as one site was in their system and the other close by in the Kua system.
The mission went off without a hitch, until one of Fayz's compatriots, Kasim, was revealed to have spent their funds for returning from Coriolis. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, the group tried to earn enough money through work to get return fare to Mira. However, Kasim repeatedly squandered, stole, and promised away all of the group's earnings time after time. After several months, the group had had enough and abandoned Kasim, who quickly met his end at the hands of one of his many debtors. However, many of the debtors knew Kasim's companions and tried to get them to pay off the debts. Since most of these debts were illegal, the group could lawfully refuse to pay them, but the sort of people Kasim owed money to didn't operate much through the legal channels.
Fearing for their lives, the young pilgrims fled Coriolis as best they could, joining any ship willing to take them off station or joining any group that could give them protection. Fayz found his way to a recruiting office and joined the Legion. Though he could have joined a medical ship, he opted for infantry to get out as quickly as possible. He spent several years as a legionnaire, fighting in an outfit specializing in rapid deployment operations. After several years fighting for whatever cause the Legion found acceptable, Fayz racked up enough physical and psychological trauma to leave the Legion on good terms and try to strike out on his own as hired security.

Basil Farouk
Age 38
Ship Worker, ex-Legion
Zenithian
Stationary (Rep 3)

Appearance
A mercenary life of war and pleasures has built Basil up into a husky bearish fellow with a beer gut. His wide nostrils, darkened eyes, and marked-up face come together for a rather distinctive profile.

Disposition
Basil has been a career warrior for most of his life, and his attitudes bear the hallmarks that make one fit for the life of a merc, being broadly cold and casual toward the suffering of others chief among them. Since losing his standing with the Legion, he has taken to drink and pleasure, fancying himself possessing a degree of personal charm - and perhaps 66% of the time, there's a chance. He has little reverence for the Icons.

History
The way Basil would tell it, he was born on a Legionnaire cruiser and came out of his momma grasping the physician's thumb. Basil was raised on a Legion spaceport by his pop until he was big enough take a punch, and apart from good old bare-knuckled brawling, he loved to look at battle exos and played around with the guts of machines that were already broken. Between his father and a close friend of the family, Basil was mentored in the skills to excel at both of these passions, and joined his father's Legion company. From early life to his late 20's, Basil fought with the Red Hands, led by Sariel Khan, until his dad kicked the bucket on the battlefield. Basil nearly bit it as well, when his legs were crushed under the weight of a fallen battle exo, and he was demoted to the Coriolis Guard. Discontented, Basil abused his authority and took bribes to manage his tricky prosthesis, and after signing a few too many requisition forms, he was caught and kicked off of the Guard. Without his father to vouchsafe him, not even his own company would have him back. To make ends, he contracted as a loader for different shipyards, hopping on transports when convenient, until he had saved up for his own loader exo. He would like nothing better than to rejoin the Red Hands, privately pining for his glory days of blitzing for the Legion.

Amir Al-Abadi
26 Years Old
Operative (Spy)
Privileged
Reputation: 6

Talents
- The Merchant's Talent
- Licensed (can purchase Restricted gear/weapons)

Appearance:
Amir is always finely dressed in public, preferring personally tailored clothing and tasteful accessories. He keeps his facial hair neatly trimmed and sculpted.

Personality:
Friendly and erudite, easily pulled into conversations on most any topic. He can be a bit fussy about his personal appearance, grumbling if anything gets on them. He especially likes discussing consumer electronics, especially the latest product releases.

History:
Amir comes from a Consortium family, although he never specifies which one (Al-Abadi means 'the Eternal', which doesn't match any of the major powers players). He clearly comes from money, has an educated vocabulary, and an impeccable sense of style. He opens up to his close friends that his family is part of the Nyala Corporation, but even to them he doesn't reveal more. His people skills aren't anything to write home about, so perhaps a second or third son with lesser expectations and training, or even a black sheep of some sort.

To the casual public he likely appears to be a rich kid 'slumming it', blowing his trust fund on travel and adventure. To his actual associates he has earned a reputation for quiet competency, and a surprising amount of technical know-how.

Iskander Ypsilantis.

Name: Iskander Ypsilantis. ("Is" to his closest friends)
Age: 27
Concept: Negotiator (Peddler)
Origin: Zenithian of Kua (Conglomerate)
Upbringing: Plebian
Reputation: ?

Icon: The Dancer

Talents
Everything is for Sale
Faction Standing
The Dancer's Talent

Image

Appearance: Iskander is a young man of respectable stature and trim physique with striking azure eyes, an attractive, clean-shaven face and wavy, medium length black hair. His choice of attire is as varied as what one might find within the backstage wardrobe of a blood opera performance, though his typical ensemble consists of a stylish slate grey duster worn over a custom tailored black kurta and pants.

Demeanor: In a profession that demands a sharp eye for finance, a silver tongue and a shrewd business acumen, Iskander has demonstrated a considerable degree of aptitude in all of these skills and a myriad of others; a fact that has served himself, his crew and his employer well in all of their trade ventures. Most of these qualities are generally kept hidden behind an informal persona meant to put prospective clientele at ease whilst simultaneously fooling competitors into underestimating his true capabilities, though Iskander is perfectly able to adapt his personality on the fly to whatever the situation calls for the most.

This convivial and roguish behavior also extends to his crew mates as well, which is (depending on the mood or who you ask) often times as much a source of embarrassment and irritation as it is one of affability and levity for them.

Born and raised in the Conglomerate slums of Kua, Iskander knows his way around the twisting alleys and busy souks and seems to be equally at home in the arrash dens or corporate boardrooms. He has the favour of your Patron and seems to be more well connected than first appearances would suggest. Besides that however, Iskander is one of you, a trusted member of the crew.
