TOR2: The Tale of Vidar, Son of Vali

It is the year 2965 of the Third Age and the Shadow is returning. Twenty-four years ago, an alliance of Elves, Men, and Dwarves defeated a horde of Orcs and Wild Wolves, under a sky darkened by Giant Bats, inaugurating a new era of prosperity for the Free Peoples. But two decades is a long time for peace to last, and in many dark corners of the earth a shadow is lengthening once again.

Rumours of strange things happening outside the borders of civilised lands are spreading with increasing regularity and, while they are dismissed by most as fireside-tales and children’s stories, they sometimes reach the ears of individuals who recognise the sinister truth they hide.

These are restless warriors, curious scholars and wanderers, always eager to seek what was lost or explore what was forgotten. Ordinary people call them adventurers and, when they prevail, they hail them as heroes. But if they fail, no one will even remember their names.

Name: Vidar, Son of Vali
Culture: Dwarf of Durin’s Folk
Calling: Captain
Gender Identity: Cisgender Male
Age: 40 years
Appearance and Demeanor: Vidar is loss stocky than many of his kin, though still hearty and strong. His hair and beard are a rich red-brown in color. The heir of a great house of the dwarves, he dresses in fine clothes and jewelry. He is relatively quiet and reserved, but when he does speak, he is well spoken, friendly and courteous. He is interested in meeting people and learning from them and does not harbor the prejudice against elves many of his people hold. He is more concerned in fighting orcs, trolls and other servants of the Enemy and wants to build alliances among the Free People to more effectively do so.

Background
Vidar is heir to one of the great dwarven houses that remain in the Blue Mountains. His family are particularly well known as skilled jewelers and Vidar is no exception. Vidar’s father, Vali, is a great warrior and not much of a diplomat. However, he does value his son’s gift in dealing with others and has encouraged him to develop his abilities. Vali knows there is more to defending his people than skill in battle and has accepted his son’s counsel about building ties with the other Free Peoples of Eriador. Vidar now roams Eriador, acting as an envoy for his father and the dwarves more broadly.
