Koji - Crimson Empire

Post by Vardaen » Fri Dec 28, 2012 8:49 pm

Character: "Hida" Koji of the Nightingale

Player: MadVlat

Game: Crimson Empire L5R

Note: This is the third guy of MadVlat's that has died in this game!

The small band of heroes participates in a Mass Combat against the Scorpion and Lion while leading Mantis and their own rag tag group of ronin and Seppun. Koji accepts a Heroic Opportunity to try and kill the enemy general but has to face his yojimbo in a duel. She is a Rank 3 Matsu Bushi / Rank 1 Lion Paragon. Koji losses.

Koji does not scream, he was a Crab, he is a Nightingale. He only gives a war cry, "Koji of the Nighitngale!!!" Then he charges across the field and levels his tetsubo at the Matsu Yojimbo. His weapon strikes home and crashes into her light armor shattering her shoulder guard and knocking her backwards a few feet. Recovering the Matsu smiles, "Finally a foe worthy to face me! I give you honor Koji of the Nightingale and will tell others of your skill after you are dead." She spins and slams her yari into Koji's side, piercing his armor and his flesh. Koji can feel the warm blood of his body spilling out down his leg under his armor, it is a sensation he knows well. He slips on the blood and drops to one knee. With a powerful Kiai shout the Lion leaps up and grabs her spear in both hands, tip pointed down, and she slams it into Koji's chest, right between the plating at his collar bone. The long yari punches through his body and out his back. The weapon's tip erupts bright red and those watching from afar have a sinking feeling in their guts at the sight. As she rips the weapon clear of the fading Koji she dances back to the middle of the circle, her back to Koji. He can't even bring himself to move, struck with a sudden fear of death, a near shameful fear of death for the man that once stood on the Wall. She plants her spear on the ground, turns around to face Koji and then bows to him.

The light goes dim and the smell of his grandmother's tea boiling on the fire fills his senses.

The dead body of Koji falls forward, as if bowing in reply to Matsu Hitoko. With a crash the heavily armored man lays there, bleeding the ground red.

Koji kneels upon the blooded ground with a strange sense of calm. He stares through glassed over eyes at the yojimbo. Almost silent the words pass his lips, "For Rokugan". Then the life passes from his body, trailing across the battlefield. A darkness over comes the giant and he awakens outside the home of his grandmother, the scent of tea filling his nostrils. He had kept to his word and died with his honor in tact. "A better death one could not ask for", he utters. Then he opens the door to embrace his ancestors.

There are guests at grandmothers table and they stand as he enters. Each introducing themselves in turn. Hisato and Oniji each greet Koji before returning to their seats. Into the forever night they speak of deeds done, combat and the more peaceful pursuits...
