War of the Ring: Rise of Orthanc

Post by Vardaen » Thu Apr 07, 2011 8:39 pm

This game is set in Middle-earth during the time of the Lord of the Rings. It is however an alternate history of the story.
February 25, 3019:
The Fellowship pass the Argonath and come to Nen Hithoel at 1:30 p.m. They make camp at Parth Galen in the evening.

The First Battle of the Fords of Isen is fought in the afternoon between the Rohirrim and Saruman's forces. Theodred is mortally wounded and dies at nightfall. Elfhelm arrives too late with troops from Edoras.

Ugluk and Grishnakh join up in the western Emyn Muil.

Gandalf comes to Fangorn and sends Gwaihir to gather news.

February 26, 3019:

This is where history changes as we know it.

The Breaking of the Fellowship. In the morning, Boromir tries to take the Ring from Frodo, Frodo resists and attempts to put the ring on but Boromir overpowers him. During the struggle Frodo is thrown down the hill, breaks his neck and dies. Boromir takes the ring and returns to the boats. Sam finds Frodo's body, he takes Sting and and returns to the camp alerting Aragorn to what's happened. Merry and Pippen run off to see for themselves and the others give chase.

Grishnak and Ugluk attack the scattered fellowship and do battle with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. They capture Merry and Pippen. Boromir returns to the camp puts on the ring and attempts to take a boat as the Orcs attack. The Ring betrays Boromir and slips from his finger. He does battle with the orcs sounding his horn one last time. Faramir and Denethor hear Boromir's horn in the distance. He is eventually shot several times and falls into the water. His horn will later wash up on the shores of Gondor broken and split. He is thought dead, but it is later discovered he survived the ordeal. Sam scoops up the fallen ring but doesn't put it on during the chaos of the battle but is eventually caught by Ugluk's forces. The orcs retreat back across the river now with the three hobbits and the One Ring.

Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli put Frodo's body in a funeral boat on the Anduin. They set out after the captors of Merry, Pippin and Sam, around 4:00 p.m.

At sundown in the western Emyn Muil, Ugluk and Grishnakh argue about what to do with the Hobbits. Grishnakh leaves while Ugluk takes the Hobbits westward into Rohan. Pippin drops his brooch during the night of February 26-27.

Eomer learns that Orcs have entered Rohan from the East Wall and he suspects an alliance between Mordor and Isengard. Grima convinces Theoden to refuse permission to follow them.

Erkenbrand dispatches a messenger to Edoras with news of Theodred's death and a request for reinforcements. Erkenbrand begins to gather the scattered forces of the Westfold. He leaves Grimbold in command of the defenses at the Fords of Isen, while Elfhelm commands of the troops from Edoras.

Three days later Saruman takes posession of the ring and declares himsel the Lord of the Ring!

This game uses the Warhammer Fantasy RPG for its mechanics and centers around how the party and the world reacts to Saruman taking the ring and becoming the new Lord of the Ring.
