Chapter 9 - Golden Dragon: Ruins of the Giants

Eberron is a new world described as Pulp Noir where swashbuckling and intrigue run rampant. The Last War is over, the war to end all wars, but many say the fighting has simply shifted from the battlefield to the shadows. Starting during the final years of The Last War, this Eberron game turned back the official clock to a time of warring nations on the verge of disaster. Now with the Last War over the memories and shadows of it linger on.

Black or Gold Dragon? Who is the winner?

Post by Vardaen » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:27 pm

The dragon is bleeding all over the place, the roars of it are followed by a shout of defiance, and it looks to flee and preserve its life. Les has other ideas. He is crushed under the thing, not pinned, but still flattened by the bulk of the dragon, he forces himself to ignore that, and he summons another spell. Hands fan out and he sprays a blast of razor sharp diamond shards into the belly of the beast. They spray in a wide fan slicing open hundreds of tiny little perforation marks around its body. As sharp as a razor and has hard as adamantine the shards find their way into the bloodstream of the dragon, dozens of them swim up to its heart lacerating it, a dozen more float up into its brain shredding it! There is a great bellow from the beast, "HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE, PUNY MOR...." The beast never finishes its statement as he topples backwards crushing the Alchemy lab of the Golden Dragon and causing and explosion that rocks the ship side to side. Benmarrow and Val flap their wings a few times to avoiding falling, while Tin Man and Les remain pinned under the bulk of the dragon so they go no place. In a few moments the Airship's rocking ends and everything is peaceful, until a weak cry comes out from under the dragon's corpse.

Tin Man says, "Can someone please extricate me from under this corpse?"

It had 23 HP left and was going to flee on its turn, but Les did it! That was a CR 14 Old Black Dragon! And the Druid was a 9th Level Druid who had cast Communual Stoneskin on all the drow plus about 7 other buffs. You guys are damn powerful even without Nirus and a Cleric.

Les climbs out from under the dragon, covered in its acidic blood, but unharmed by it due to his slightly late forethought of casting a protection spell on himself. A trivial use of his magic power cleans the blood from his clothes and another mends the holes that the acid has burned into it. Thus healed of his ails (If you don't count the massive acid burns all over his body, which for the moment, he doesn't) Les surveys the bulk of the dragon. After a moment of quiet contemplation, he breaks the somber moment with his usual wit.

"Fuck yeah! That's what you get! Les is MORE, baby!"

"Gods above," Val says with a sigh. "That was close." He leans on the rail of the stairs. Then he pats the leg of the dead dragon. "So Benmarrow, Les, how would you like some dragon scale mail? I've got plenty of material to work with!" Then he proceeds to star healing up Les and Benmarrow.

"Give us a moment, Tin Man," he calls out. "Once I get Benmarrow healed, he should be able to get you out."

Benmarrow slumps to the ground and falls against the massive frame of the dead dragon. He looks down at Tin Man, buried under the weight, but says nothing. He takes several deep breaths, the fatigue of his rage and the injuries causing him near collapse. The shifter can only nod to his friends' wit at this point. Later, likely, he will be in such a good mood that he will stay drunk for three days.

Finally, and after being healed by Val, Les calms down some and starts poking at the dragon corpse, trying to find a way to move enough of it to free Tin Man. he's not particularly strong, but he is a smart guy, and looks for leverage points where he could pry with one of the bits of smashed ship to get the warforged free.

Tin Man tries to pull himself out, but he's only able to get one of his hands out. His fingers wiggle as he tries to grab ahold of something. The warforged doesn't need to breath, but the crushing weight of the beast may add some additional dents to his already scared body.

Once healed, Benmarrow climbs to his feet, sliding his massive blade onto his back again. He slowly moves over to where Les finds a good spot for leverage then digs in, using his gauntlets of ogre power and innate strength to try to get the Warforged free.

Val moves about tapping folks with a healing wand curing some of hte worst of it and stopping the pain. Les and Ben move to help Tin Man, his hand pokes out and Ben grabs hold, Les bends a knuckle on the dragon's claw and that helps remove some of the weight. Benmarrow pulls and then with a loud *POP* Tin Man is pulled free from under the bulk of the dragon's weight.

A few minutes later Valgrim the Bosun, along with a few armed crewmen and what's left of the Midani Guards come up on deck. The half orc gives a loud whistle, "Well look at that, no wonder we are listing to port." He has the crew fan out and double check any of the corpses on the deck, making sure they are dead but most of the bodies fell into the city below. The Bosun stands there, holding the side of the bridge, "No you four did this? Truly you are heroes!"

"You got it," Val says, standing a bit taller. "This is the Grey Company at work." He allows the group a moment to bask in the limelight before he moves on. "Now if you'll help me check the bodies here on deck, some of them may still be alive. If you find someone who's still breathing, give a shout and I'll come over with a healing wand." And with that, the artificer begins checking bodies.
First make sure that anyone who can be saved is saved. Then loot the bodies!

Val moves about the deck there is no one to save, only a single ape escaped the fighting on the deck and that has managed to escape to the nearby tower with a lucky jump and has scaled to the top swatting at birds and is being shot down by the tower guards as the group speaks.

The drow are stripped, only 2 bodies have loot, Zolatana the Druid and her body guard, all the other Drow fell to their death's over the side. Still, a few interesting magical items are stripped from the drow. Th Bosun sets to get a cheer going for th Grey Company, and the crew shouts a "HUZAH!" a half dozen times. Valgrim rubs his head, "I'm sending word to the captain now, this mess is going to take a while to clean up." He kicks the dragons corpse and then worries he might wake it, but its dead for good.
