New Game - Suggestions?

Post by ManWithDoor » Wed May 30, 2018 7:20 am

So we've sadly been losing some Games over the past few months. Life has been unkind to a number of our Storytellers, and I hope that their situations improve and they can get back to the hobby they love.

Anyways ... I've been trying for the past couple years to try my hand at Storytelling myself. I've got 2 games going, and I'm willing to try starting a 3rd. So I thought I'd start with opening up to requests!

I know Pathfinder and World of Darkness systems pretty fully. I know another half-dozen systems well enough. Easiest on suggestions would be a specific Adventure Path you'd like to play in. But if it's more general, like just a system you're interested in, I'm happy to hear it.

I am in! I have 0 PCs left now.

I would play Pathfinder of course, but would be up for any setting or system at this point. Games I know the best: Pathfinder, L5R, The One Ring, Warhammer 40K

Do WoD. I can't imagine all people want to do is play the same shit over and over. I suggest Htv. I think it works best for WoD newbies.

In terms of Wold of Darkness, I'd be interested in a Changeling: The Dreaming game.

The one game I don't care for of course. Are you going to play Tet?

No.

Only offering my opinion. If people want to play PF it is cool. Just seems like people might want to do something different.

As to Changeling, that is interesting, if people will go for it. Could do Beast or Demon from Chronicles 2E

I've mainly done the main 3 (Mage/Werewolf/Vampire). I've read through some of the books for the other series, but never actually gamed in them. So I bit hesitant to jump into a Hunter/Changeling game, given my unfamiliarity. Not that that's a hard no, just a concern.

V - if I go Pathfinder, is there any Adventure Path that you've been interested in Gaming in?

Muskrat - Besides Changeling, is there any particular system/game you'd be interested in?

Oh, there's all sorts of things I'd like to play. A wuxia game using either Tianxia or Jadepunk (both for Fate Core). A Shadowrun Anarchy game, where we play do-gooders of some sort--either Robin Hood/ Leverage types or one of the campaigns outlined in the 3E supplement Loose Alliances, where you work for a good buy organization. (I like the Shadowrun setting, but these days I prefer rules-light systems and I prefer an at least quasi-heroic style of play--nobody worse than the characters in Firefly.) Blue Planet looks like a really interesting setting with its ecological and political themes, though I think I'd rather play it in another system, like Fate Core. I don't know if any of those are in your repertoire, but those are some of the things I'd be most interested in playing.

I could give WoD a try. Never played. I have some ideas kicking around in the noggin already for a kith or a hunter. For werewolf or vampire, I'd have to think harder.

Never played Pathfinder either. I have some sheet drafts for some different characters and I'm dying to toss them into a campaign.

Typical start that forces the characters to team up, or gives reasons to travel together, will do fine.

Couple of Dark Eye characters too. Again, never played.

New Game - Suggestions?

Sorry to say for those more quirky systems that I very much enjoy gaming in, I've decided that for the creativity and time I have available to push out a third game, it will have to be an Adventure Path. So, on to Pathfinder. However, I dug through the troves of the Paizo Library to find something different and interesting. Not your standard boiler-plate quest. So here are the ones I found most interesting:

Strange Aeons - In a distant land polluted by an alien menace from beyond the stars, a great cancer grows within the earth. As its tendrils reach out through the dreams of those who learn and study its existence, a sinister cult grows more active in preparing the way for a devastation that will destroy more than the minds of would-be heroes. Can the adventures reclaim lost memories in time to stop the advance of a cataclysmic contagion that could threaten all of Golarion? Can they resist the mind-shattering truths revealed by the Yellow Sign, and the monstrous force it symbolizes? The Strange Aeons Adventure Path pits the heroes against the cosmic horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos, with new monsters, mind-shattering terrors, and explorations far beyond the known lands of Golarion.
- While I've barely actually gamed in Call of Cthulhu, I've read many of Lovecraft's stories, and I always find unsettling events and reality-bending themes fascinating. And since it's Pathfinder, there's actually a chance that you might save the world. Rather than being destined to be driven insane by the second Act.

War For The Crown - As the political scene in Taldor explodes into chaos, players take on the role of agents, advocates, and saboteurs working for Princess Eutropia to help secure her claim to the Imperial throne and prevent the Empire from collapsing in on itself in civil war. Along the way, the PCs must uncover hidden secrets of Taldor’s past—many deliberately hidden—and grow from relative nobodies to powerful politicians and spymasters in the deadliest political arena in the Inner Sea.
- This is a political/intrigue heavy game. There is definitely combat, but in many cases your success will much more depend on your ability to gain allies, politically foil enemies, and find out hidden truths. Rarely seen character classes like divination-specialist Wizards or the Batman class (Vigilante) could actually be useful in such a campaign. Your characters start as low-level agents of the Princess of a nation teetering on the edge of civil war. You will have a huge effect on how that will all pan out.

Hell's Rebels - The city of Kintargo has a new lord-mayor, but he's not someone interested in maintaining that city's free spirit. Paracount Barzillai Thrune has placed the city under martial law, and his cruel proclamations and sinister plans for the city bode ill. Can a small group of heroes and would-be rebels stand against the might of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune and the Church of Asmodeus and save their home town from being crushed under the boot of an infernal tyrant? Will one of Cheliax's most powerful inquisitors make the city his playground, or can the rebels known as the Silver Ravens rise up to bring a new era of freedom to the so called Silver City of Kintargo? Join the rebellion! Save Kintargo! DOWN WITH THRUNE!
- Probably the most standard adventure of the ones I was thinking of running. Fighting the good fight against Infernal overlords. You will quickly be the head of a group of refugees/rebels, and run your own small-potatoes attempt to Fight the Power. Maybe you'll get squashed like bugs, or maybe you can somehow cobble together a real nation, and forever throw off the shackles of the minions of the Nine Hells.

So, if you're interested in being a player in a Pathfinder game, let me know. And if you have preferences for the Adventure Path chosen, please let me know that as well. Given that almost inevitably someone will have to drop out before we really hit the meat of the campaign, I'm hoping for at least 5 good pings of interest to start it up.
