Capitulus Quartus: Deadtown

Post by Vardaen » Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:59 pm

Image "A Heretic may see the truth and seek redemption. He may be forgiven his past and will be absolved in death. A Traitor can never be forgiven. A Traitor will never find peace in this world or the next. There is nothing as wretched or as hated in all the world as a Traitor."

-Cardinal Khrysdam, Instructum Absolutio

Having reached the House of Dust and Ash the Acolytes have decided to split up to cover more ground. Leaving the great structure of the Cematoria Solaria, Xanthia and Haxtes wander back outside into the ash filled air to seek a place they have heard called Deadtown.

Arriving outside, the 'snow' returns to fall on the trio. Solaria wastes no time in asking about and a few easily swayed PDF troopers stationed near the door point the way to Deadtown.

About a kilometer around the volcanic cliffs of the Burning Island is a small settlement known colloquially as Deadtown. Set back in a series of caverns along the shoreline, the settlement is a ramshackle place and home to various scavengers and dregs.

Xanthia nods in response to the directions that Solaria works out of the PDF troopers. "Well then, this way we go." She sets off in the direction of the Deadtown, attempting to ignore the falling ash that is now sticking to her hair.

Solaria give a small, but infectious laugh, looking at Xan and Haxtes. She often wonders if the man is as handsome as his brother under all those augmetics. "We'll find something of use or humor down here, I'm sure of it. Places like this don't sping up without the more interesting elements. We'll look around and see if we can find anything out and if anyone is selling anything useful.
Will be looking to use Common Lore: Underworld and Ciphers: Underworld down in Deadtown. Should be the perfect time to try them out!

Haxtes just stays with Solaria and Xanthia, weapons ready. His shoulder mounted tentacle like additional eye darts all around, and often to the Tech-Priests back, looking if someone is following them. He senses that the town is not the safest of places, and is ready for trouble. No word escapes his lips.

Actually, without the augmentics, he would be of middle height, blond with grey eyes, a fit build and slightly tanned skin. He is not bad looking, but his augmentics have changed him radically and his hair and face can seldom be seen under the mechanicus hood. And his laconic demeanor and shyness make him not very approachable anyway.

The trio makes the walk down around the coast and cliffs to Deadtown. The settlement is a ramshackle place and home to various scavengers and dregs. As you stride into Deadtown all eyes turn to you. People sit on porches leaning back in chairs or stand in open door ways with hands lightly resting on pistols on their hips. Most folk on the road give you a wide berth, but keep a wary eye in your direction. Nearly all the buildings are about the same quality and that is crap. Near the center of Deadtown is the lone drinking hall, a pair of gangers picking at their teeth on the porch, one wears a revolver the other has a sawed off. Moving right toward the building Solaria knows that if anyplace is the heart of this slum its the drinking hall and so she leads you right to it.

Xanthia approaches the drinking hall, looking over the gangers at the front door as she approaches, trying to determine whether they are bouncers, or just hanging out.

She then takes in the surroundings, noting the crap build quality of the area. She looks for destroyed buildings when she scans over the environs.

Solaria lets Xan and Haxes keep their eyes peeled and marches them staight towards the bar. She knuckles her brow at the two men in mock salute, "Boys...", she says to them in a nuetral tone and goes to open the door. What they do, whatever they decide, she'll be ready...

Xanthia sizes up the men, they are scum, little more than boys with toys playing at a game out here. Solaria furrows her bow and offers them a single word in greeting. Both men turn lustful eyes on the two attractive women, one offering the other, "Well damn, look at the tits on that one." The other man whistles, "Forget that Hank, look at the little one's ass, you could bounce a bolt shell off it!" Both men then suddenly go silent as Haxtes, his mechandenrites and various tech priest augmentations click, clack, snap and buzz with energy. The Tech Priest follows the ladies into the bar and the two men shake their heads at one another disappointed.

Inside the drinking hall you find a single large room filled with all manner of scum and villainy, and the occasional not so bad man just slumming it. The room is a collection of cobbled tables and chairs and a single large bar-back. Entering you find the place about half full, some of the men are local dregs, but you spy a few men that look more like skyship crewmen (not from the Martyr), and even an off duty trooper is to be found drowning his sorrow in the snake bite they server here.

Behind the bar is the proprietor of the place Chenshan, a stocky weathered looking man with a scour demeanor and eyes like chips of flint. He wears a faded frock coat over a reclamator's worn coveralls, and one would think him just another scavenger but for the wary respect others give him and his trailing bodyguard of silent, slab-muscled and iron-masked heavies.
It doesn't take Solaria's Underworld Skills to realize this man is THE man around town.

Haxtes follows the two women and (of course) lets them do the talking. He keeps his eyes open for trouble (ALL his eyes!) and his weapons ready. He does take the time to nod a greeting to Chenshan.

Solaria looks around, nodding at the occasional person staring at them and smiling to herself, Damn right you could bounce a bolt shell off of Xan's ass! I was just saying the same thing to Jericus not two day ago...

She nods at teh bar, directing the others over with her and ponying up to the somewhat 'polished' countertop. She motions to the barkeep for service and scans the room as he comes over.
