Capitulus Sextus: Rejoice for you are True

“So far from the light of the Throne,
it is easy to get lost in the darkness.”
— Inquisitor Vownus Kaede.

“There shall be no mercy for those too weak to adhere to the correct course.
For mercy shall destroy us if it erodes our strength and weakens our resolve.
Find courage in your hatred of the xenos, the impure and witch.
To do otherwise is to shame the very foundations of the institution you represent.”
— Inquisitor Sand, informal address to retinue.

Seven month ago you gave your report to Inquisitor Sand about the Auction at the House of Dust and Ash where you lost Xanthia to a daemon blade.

Four months ago you left Scintilla on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of St. Drusus on the planet Maccabeus Quintus.

Two month ago you left Maccabeus Quintus after a peaceful pilgrimage to the shrine where the Cleric Rego had his blade sanctified.

One week ago you transferred from the cargo ship you were traveling on back to Scintilla to a new vessel, somewhat unexpectantly to the free trading vessel the Verdant Glory, mastered by Chartist Captain Baltis Mecather—a Rogue Trader trusted by the Inquisition to courier sensitive documents and other more dangerous cargo.

Yesterday you arrive in orbit above Scintilla. The Verdant Glory hangs, gothic and pristine, against the eyesore that is Scintilla from space. You have not been allowed to disembark. The captain's aide-de-camp has refused to tell you much only saying that the Rogue Trader Captain is acting on orders from the highest authority. You have however been treated well, you have been given access to the ships facilities such as the rifle range, the sparing chambers, medical facilities, a small librarium, and even a workshop areas beside the normal quarters and mess hall chambers.
Welcome to Chapter 6

This chapter will take us deep into events on Scintilla itself in the hive and beyond. At one point Solaria will be leaving the group but we will welcome TetNak to the Inquisition. Let's have fun and put our Acolyte faces back on, you back on the clock!

Haxtes has been practicing his weapons, meditating and reading things in the librarium. He also once went off to talk to the Techpriests who tend to the massive plasma drives of the ship and once requested to have a look at the bridge - if his whish is granted, he will just stand there and observe the doings of the bridge crew for an hour or so and then leave again.
Might want to take Pilot (Spaceship) sometime, so trying to set up for this learning.

Jericus accepts the delay with equanimity. His past with the Administratum has given him a tremendous tolerance for waiting. There was little to be gained from decrying the inevitable. So instead he spends most of his time in the librarium studying texts that would be unavailable to him on Scintilla. But he does find time to spend a couple of hours in the ships rifle range to practice with his various weapons. Knowledge was important. This he knows all too well. But if the last few years have taught him anything it's that a good eye and a steady hand were equally important at times.

The Psyker barely notices the passage of time, as he meditates in his chamber. He keeps a small candle flickering at all times, holding it between his hands and focusing on the light. He has spent hours of every day staring with his powers into the Astronomicon, the candle being a simple focus for his feeble flesh. After the experience the the Shrine, he has redoubled his efforts to attempt to be in tune with the will of the God-Emperor. The Light emanating from the Golden Throne throughout the galaxy is the proof that the Emperor is still with them, guiding them according to His plan.
Getting Invocation +10, so this makes sense that Damien's been doing the whole prayer thing a lot.

Rego has retired to the chapel on the ship and hasn't been seen since.

Solaria can be found on the rifle range or in the mess hall joking with the off duty men, or where ever Jericus is trying to seduce him into bed again. She doesn't have much trouble with any of these things.

So you sit, for two more days in orbit waiting.

Finally on the third day since arriving in orbit over Scintilla a messenger finds you on the ship and you are to report at once to one of the forward studies (Captain Mecather's ready room in fact). You gather up one by one coming from various parts of the ship to the chamber to find someone there waiting for you.

Dwarfed in a large throne like chair sits Inquisitor Sand! Rare is it for you to see him outside of his labratory, and this may be the first time ever you've seen him without a pane of protective glass between you and he. Sand is surrounded by a group of hovering Familiars, modified skulls and otherwise, that orbit about him like tiny satellites about a star. The Familiars carry data-slates and several project flickering holographs that Sand continues to smoothly peruse as you enter the room. Sand nods towards the Acolytes and a servoskull, loaded down with a serving tray, floats over to deliver a selection of drinks, alcoholic and otherwise, to you. Once you've chosen a beverage or declined he gestures towards a large ornately engraved wooden table with matching chairs.

"Gentlemen, ladies, thank you for coming, I apologize for making you wait so long but some things had to be put in order before I could make this trip." That's when you notice standing just a bit behind him and to the left, in the shadows of the chamber a large man with various tattoos on him.
Welcome TetNak to the game as the figure in the shadows.

It is the time for descriptive posts from Tet and everyone else so we know what we are looking at. After that we'll give into things.

In the shadows, a man waits patiently. There are two very obvious things about him. Hexegrammatic wards have been tattooed onto his lips and parts of his chin. Any psyker would recognize this as the Tongue Bound ritual performed on the Black Ships. This man does not look so much like a psyker, however. He is wearing power armor, which makes him look huge in comparison to a normal person. The armor has a massive skull embedded in the breastplate, and the armor is a mix of reds and blacks. There is a faint hum as the power supply feeds the armor from his back. The man takes a slight step forward, exposing his helmet in his hand, and protruding from over his left shoulder is the hilt of a sword.

Aside from his hexegrammatic wards, the man seems younger than most psykers, as if the strain of his conditioning did not have much affect on his physical appearance. The man could be considered handsome, with long sideburns, but a partially shaved head. His skin is pale, almost opaque, and his hair is a copper color. His hair, shaved in the front and back, is fashioned into a sideways mohawk. The hair sticks up at least three inches off his head, which makes the man look a bit strange.
Think of a Centurion's helmet
His eyes are large, with black pupils. He shows every sign of many Void Born, with cream-like skin, fair features, and large eyes. He says nothing, only the buzz of his armor speaking for him.

Standing in the middle of the group of acolytes is an entirely nondescript man. He's on the short side of average height and weight, with brown hair, brown eyes, and the pale skin of someone who works indoors most of the time. The man wears clothes that wouldn't stand out in a crowd. They're well made, the sort a rising member of the Administratum might wear, but nothing remarkable. The only distinctive physical feature he has is a scar across one cheek. But even that seems forgettable. It's just one of the thousands of such injuries you might see in any given cross-section of humanity. The man's sole token of individuality is a Eldar shuriken pistol that rests at his hip.

He nods to Inquisitor Sand, takes a drink and stands by one of the chairs at the table. "It's good to be back at Scintilla, sir," he says to the Inquisitor. He makes no inquiry as to why they've been called or what preparations had to be made. Anything that they were supposed to know, Inquisitor Sand would tell them. Anything else, was nothing they needed to know - or ask about.

Behind Jericus stands a tech-priest. He is clad in the crimson robes of his order with the cog-and-skull symbol prominently over his heart. He has put his hood over his head and underneath, a glimpse of the typical adeptus mechanicus breathing apparatus can be seen covering the lower half of his face. One eye has been replaced by a cybernetic eye and glows red under the hood.

A hum comes from the man's back as his potentia coil is producing energy. Several mechadendrites are fastened to the tech-priest's potentia coil. One bears some kind of mechanic lens or eye and darts around nervously while the man himself rests calm. Another bears all kinds of tools and even a censer, though it is not smoking right now. Another mechadendrite bears some kind of large claw.

While the man's hands are folded in the long sleeves of his robes, some bulges indicate that some heavy weaponry is concealed beneath.

The techpriest just waits, patiently, not saying a word.

To the side of the Administratum member stands another annoyingly average man. The same quick checklist applies to him - standard male height, brown hair and eyes, pale skin. He seems simply but competently armed - a laspistol, sword, and a cluster of grenades pinned to his belt. His robes seem to be tattered and worn, burn marks and sewn tears marring the surface. Only two pieces of equipment stand out. Besides the standard Imperial Guard surplus flak armour, he has an impressive breastplate of fanciful design, swirls and scales decorating the surface. The other can only partially be seen, concealed partially by the cowling of the robe. A metal collar appears to encase the man's neck, and also climb up the back of his head. Silver and gold circuitry, as well as arcane symbols, are built into the device.

Damien bows slightly in polite gratitude to Inquisitor Sand's offerings. He takes a drink that looks like it will taste good, and sips it slowly. "We are all eager to take the fight to the enemies of the God-Emperor, Inquisitor. How may we serve?" He seems to be rather gregarious, his voice friendly and honest.

Haven't seen a post from MV in a while. I guess he's still Hunting and vanished from civilized world
There are two others, a slender physically fit woman with long black hair and a tight fitting set of clothing. She has a few weapons hanging from combat webbing off her hip, and moves with the graces of a cat, a large hunting that that looks ready to pounce at any moment. She takes up a glass of booze, and downs it in one slug, then takes a second and sips. "Greeting Inquisitor."

Coming into the chamber is also another man. He wears the robes of a Cleric of the Elchesiarchy. A great aquialla amulet hangs from his neck, and over his back is a great sword that he shows great reverence to. He sits, as if tired, and nods to the group taking a glass of water only.

Sand glances behind him at the hulking figure in the power armor at his side. “Gentlemen, ladies, thank you for coming. "Now then, to business. Your previous efforts have shed more light on a most elusive puzzle and while I was looking forward to running it down myself, I'll not begrudge your efforts. I've read your reports from Iocanthos over again with interest...Great interest, indeed.”

Sand reaches forward with a heavily augmented metal left arm and taps a control panel in the table. A holographic display showing the twisted blank visage of the Magus—the Emperor's Tarot card that you acquired at the Black Cathedral on Iocanthos from the Seer Aristarchus , flickers into view over the table and begins slowly rotating.

“I'm certain you all recognize your souvenir. Aristarchus was a good man and a trusted ally for many years. I want to know what happened to him. I think the seer's fall was orchestrated, but to what purpose I cannot say. I turned many of my resources towards this gift of yours. Extensive crosschecking turned up nothing and I all but killed three of my autosavants at the task, when a very old friend of mine contacted me early last month. Laurent Strophes, ex-Imperial navy, retired with honour, noble family connected to the Maechenko. First met him back in the days when I just became Inquisitor. One of his nieces has gone missing. It happens, especially on Scintilla where he berths these days... but usually not in Hive Sibellus. Still, he wouldn't have contacted me over such a matter. He set some skilled locals to quietly searching. The only reliable link they came up with connected to a small new creed called the Joyous Choir.”

He slides a paper across the table at you to look at.

“Seems they think the Emperor wants us all to be happy or some other such nonsense. Even check to make certain people are in high spirits using, ‘harmony meters'. Strophes' men got their hands on a few of them. The majority held no surprises, but one had this.”

A second display shimmers to life next to the first, showing a series of intricate lines criss-crossed with small nodes. Even those among you with no knowledge of the hidden secrets of technology can easily see that the patterns depicted on the two holograms are identical.

“Now what do you make of that, eh?”
