Capitulus Decum: Death From Above

Image “What is there, but dynasty? The stars are out of our reach. The great cities of this sector, the spires and cathedrals, they are not for us. All we have, is each other. All we have is dynasty.”
–Nikaea Hekate

“The powers within the Dei-Phage’s hand are my birthright. They alone know the worth of my ancestry. They have brought you here to die within my grasp!”
–Bulagor Thrungg

Eight Months Into the Coup on Sepheris Secundus

For months you worked with Baron Ulbexis to try and overthrow Queen Lachryma of Sepheris Secundus. The first few months were information gathering missions, turning lesser nobles to your side, and re-establishing the Baron's support base. It was going well, well enough without any support from the outside, and considering the Baron insisted in a minimal loss of life. Then things changed. The Queen died. You still aren't sure exactly how, official reports from the Throne said of natural causes, rumors suggested assassination, you only know it wasn't you. That changed things, but not as you expected. Her daughter was poised take up the thrown in her place, but on the reading of her last will and testament the Queen did not name her daughter, but instead appointed a council of nobles to over see the running of a "just and democratic' government. It seems she had been corrupted by the Baron's teachings. It was a major victory for you, but it did not have the effects she was hoping for. Her daughter began a war against those nobles that would sit on the new council, and the War of the Council began. The Baron took the chance to declare himself openly, which added to the chaos.

A civil war began with so many people changing sides over and over again that no one could keep the political and actual backstabbing straight. The Baron declared him and his allies as the Ulbrexian Protectorate, and their primary goal has been to keep the common man safe, and to keep the planetary economy functioning in the chaos. Proctor Rotlan became the lead of the Baron's military forces. The Imperial Guard has slowly begun to arrive at Proctor Lucius prompting, and have little by little been securing the Mines and other key locations with the Baron's aid, but their forces are only just starting to show. Poctor Lucius has taken his leave from the company to over seen these operations.

Worse yet has been the sudden rise of the House Thrungg, a noble house that came to your attention during your investigations. Each look into their power grave you more and more concern. About a month ago you distanced yourself from the War of the Council and have turned your focus direction on House Thrungg. Its rise to power has sinister underpinnings, and you have confirmed their association with Chaos. You have called in the favors owed you, declared your ties to the Inquisition openly, and commandeered a portion of the Baron's forces to complete your new mission.
Welcome back! Hang on to your Rosettes as I post another post or two

Capitulus Decum: Death From Above

Post by Vardaen » Tue Oct 31, 2017 6:13 pm

Image Outside The Thrungg Mansion The engines of the assault carrier roar as the rear ramp slides open. The wind shrieks in, almost deafening your very thoughts. The troopers seated alongside you check their weapons, throw one last grin at their fellow soldiers and lower the visors of their helmets. The icy mountains of Iceholm whirl below you, a thousand mansions and noble estates competing for space among a forest of icy spires and flying banners.

Your mission is clear. Bulagor Thrungg is the last of a proud line. His dynasty squandered on ecstasy, he has turned to heresy as an entertainment. Somewhere in his manor is a museum of apostasy that you must locate and investigate. The Ulbrexian Protectorate is attempting to take Thrungg alive, if possible, for questioning.

The Valkyrie swoops down low over House Thrungg. The compound walls enclose a mansion with one wing covered by glass and snow, the rest of the building a frowning gothic monstrosity. Rows of tombs cover the gardens around the mansion, and household troops, tiny specks from this height, run along the walls and through the grounds.

“Men of the Protectorate!” yells Proctor Noles Rotlan, hanging onto one of the handholds mounted overhead. “We drop in thirty seconds! Come down fighting and check your targets!” He gives you an understanding nod, ‘Sirs, the battle plan has you coming down in the false chapel, I leave it to you to find the proof you need and we will try not to get in your way.”

Welcome to the game. No delay! Right to the action!

I figure a post to get back into it, Decription, etc, you are in the Valkyrie still!

Hastes is standing in the Valkyrie, calm and unemotional as ever. He has his weapons ready. He recites some Adeptus Mechanicus Mantra on the Hellgun connected to his personal energy source. One of the tentacles coming from his back, his optical mechadentrite, has some sort of camera at its tip and it darts around focusing on each of the others in turn.
As soon as it is time, Haxtes is ready for action.

Damien is in his fancy carapace armor, decked out with a reinforced breastplate and hexagrammatic wards. He may not be much use with even his Mars-made laspistol, but he can certainly take a hit and keep on fighting. His creepy skeletal staff is held firmly with one hand, and he fiddles with the blessed circuitry worked into the base of his skull, which enhances his powers channeled from the Immaterium. This place is no backwater, but he looks forward to when he can visit a true Imperial or Forge World to have his psy-focus maintained properly.

"Everyone get ready," Jericus says, holding onto a ceiling strap and addressing the team. He's wearing his xenomesh armor, as usual, and has Brimstone slung over one shoulder. "The proctor and his team will be responsible for the main assault. Our primary mission is to find evidence of Thrungg's perfidy. I expect that we'll find it in the chapel. though it's possible that we'll need to expand our search to his 'menagerie,' whatever that turns out to be."

Death From Above: False Chapel - Round 1

Post by Vardaen » Fri Nov 03, 2017 4:15 pm

The Valkyrie shakes, you shout to one another over the roar of the engines. After so many months of political backstabbing, investigation, and trying to raise support for the Baron; all done in secret without backing, its nice now to have the weight of your weapons in your hands, and to be openly declared once more.

The side doors of the Valkyrie slide open with a thudding noise. A pair of Protectorate Guardsmen bring heavy bolters to life, shattering the windows of the Chapel skylight, creating a clear point of entry for your descent.
Your mission is to go in through the glass roof by gravchute. This wing of the mansion contains House Thrungg’s dynasty chapel, and is not expected to be held in any numbers by the household troops. You are to hold the chapel until Rotlan's men can capture the rest of the mansion and kill or capture the household troops defending it.
As the grav-chutes slow your fall to a manageable speed, you fit the groun hard still. You land with all your weight, and tumble prone. On the way down however you are able to get a clear view of the landing area. Two rows of steel benches with cushioned backs line the area. There is a squat stone dais, probably reserved for sermons. The intel had shown this area empty, but unfortunately a patrol of a half dozen guard have fallen back to this position along with a Servitor, his left side converted to a metallic housing for an Heavy Bolter.

Haxtes hits he floor hard, but acts without doubt almost at once...
First you have to land, using a Gravchutte, which you've never used before.
Ordinary (+10) Agility Test or an Easy (+30) Acrobatics Test.

Damien Ag: 71 vs 46 Fail, Lands Prone
Haxtes: 97 vs 46 Fail, Lands Prone
Jericus: 73 vs 51 Fail, Lands Prone

Great Start Guys! Hey who knew, Haxtes and Damien have the same Agility Score!
Round 1 Haxtes 10.3 House Guards 10.2, Jericus 7.4, Damien 7.3, Servitor 7.1

You all start Prone, but otherwise ready to go

The pews on either side provide 6 Armour to the legs when a character is standing behind them, or 6 to all but the head if they are kneeling.

Death From Above: False Chapel - Round 1-2

Post by Vardaen » Mon Nov 06, 2017 7:55 pm

Round 1 Haxtes 10.3 House Guards 10.2, Jericus 7.4, Damien 7.3, Servitor 7.1
Round 2 Haxtes 10.3 House Guards 10.2, Jericus 7.4, Damien 7.3
Haxtes crawls behind the cover of the pews, and leans out into the aisle with his hell gun and fires. The weapon is super charged, and Haxtes knows just where to his the mostly machine man. The blast hits it square in the chest, blows the crap out of its life support servos and it topples over backwards with a involuntary squeeze of the trigger sending bolter shots up into the ceiling blowing away part of the roof. It eventually stops doing that as its now destroyed and defeated just like that.

The guards wear a uniform of thick brown cloth with a blue armored jacket hedl close din the front by a row of two dozen brass buttons. From under their helmets a long long braid is worn weighted by an ornamental skull. Their shotguns are ornately covered in scrollwork telling the deeds of a house Thrungg ancestor, but otherwise appear of normal quality to you.

The lead off gunman moves up along the pews and leans over one, point blank and fires down at the prone Haxtes. The weapon gives a sickening *CRACK* noise, and doesn't fire. The man smacks it a few times on the side, fixing whatever jam almost just happened, but it spares Haxtes the point blank from the man's shotgun.

The other men open fire from range, kneeling behind cover, they aim and fire down the way at you guys. You are laying there prone, and shots blow off hunks of seating, and scatter into the air above you. Jericus takes a grazing shot to the side, but his xeno mesh armor absorbs the blow.

Laying prone Jericus, Damien and Haxtes act one more...
Haxtes: Crawl, Shoot Servitor: Short Range +10: 26 vs 74 Success hit body for "10"+3 (Fury: 09 Success) + 7+3 = 23 - 2AP (6AP-4Pen)=21 Wounds = DESTROYED!
#1: Move, Point Blank (Scatter) +30: Shoot Haxtes: "100" (Jam!) Reliable Weapon: 7 Normal Miss = NOT JAMMED
#2: Aim +10, Short Range +10: Shoot Jericus : 84 Miss
#3: Aim +10, Short Range +10: Shoot Jericus: 14 Success [Dodge while Prone: Hard -20: 89 vs 21 Fail to Dodge]: Hot Body for 5 - 5AP = 0 Wounds
#4: Aim +10, Short Range +10: Shoot Damien:: 75 Miss
#5: Aim +10, Short Range +10: Shoot Haxtes: 88 Miss
#6: Move, Short Range +10: Shoot Haxtes: 82 Miss

Death From Above: False Chapel - Round 1-2

"I'm really, really sorry, Haxtes." Damien stays prone, looking up at the multiple soldiers shooting at him. "I'll make it up to you, I swear." He begins channeling an ability that he's had for years, but never used around the Techpriest, for good cause.
So ... yeah. Going to cast a spell I have never used the Campaign so far. We'll see how much Haxtes kicks me for it - Weapon Jinx:
You reach into nearby machines with your mind to scramble their circuitry. All mechanical devices within range (50m) cease to function for 1 Round. In addition, you may Test Willpower to force a single weapon within range to jam. The jammed weapon can be cleared as normal (see page 196). Note that the Adeptus Mechanicus are especially loathing of this kind of ability and tend to take a very dim view of Psykers that employ it.

Since the Threshold is only 8, I'm going to go Full 4d10+8 Casting, and see if I can force a Jam on all of their weapons.

"You get that one for free," Jericus says to the assembled guards as he scrambles under cover. "Now in the name of the Inquisition, drop your weapons and surrender immediately, or we will be forced to destroy you." Then, to prove his point, he fires off a shot from Brimstone at one of the guards.
Half Action: Scramble for cover NE E E
Half Action: Fire Brimstone at #6
In a normal game, I'd wait to give them a chance to surrender. In WH40K, it's a different story. They get shot at up and until they surrender.
I'm not sure if Brimstone will be taken out by this psykic power, but Jericus goes before Damien, so at least this one shot should fire.
