Aesgir looks on as the final piece of the cog is retrieved from the corpse and watches quietly as it turns into dust, glad he did not have to draw his weapon this time, he moves on with the rest of the group.

Haxtes steps forward, opens the face of the tall grandfather clock (that still works) and reveals the secret door behind it. The cog-key in his hand slips perfectly into place and he turns it. The chimes of the clock begin to ring out.

Thirteen times the chimes ring, then the clock goes silent and stops, the hands are frozen in motion. The hidden door in the Nave now opens onto a black shaft of ribbed steel, like a negative cast of an enormous spine. Rusted handholds lead downwards into the blackness. The smell of oil and rust reaches you on the faint breeze from below, along with the sound of grinding machinery....
