Con report, because why not?

Post by Bitom » Tue Sep 23, 2014 5:12 pm

This year's Brencon had a lot more in common with the first pseudo-brencon at B's house in Rochester than with those that followed, although it had more people.

There were no structured events, no auction, and no raffle. The money-making events weren't necessary since we have the money for the UPS and are just trying to FIND one that suits our needs. (I continue to encourage B to use some of the money to help pay for the internet connection and electrical bills he pays for, but so far he won't do it.)

For the most part, the con took place in my garage, with tables and chairs on loan from the local Masonic lodge. We had a large tent available for overflow, but didn't get enough people to need it, so it didn't get set up.

Total cost of the con was $134.14 for two Uhaul rentals (To get the tables and chairs to and from the Masons) plus about 10 bucks in gas. Various attendees gave me money to help out, and the total amount was very nearly covered. The remaining part that I paid out-of-pocket was about the same as what people were giving me, so I just call it "My share."

Many games were played. Much noise was made (particularly by Eddie, who kept encouraging my dog to chase him by squealing in an interesting fashion.) Perhaps others remember which games in particular. My memory doesn't work that way. I remember Carcassone and Smallworld, but I'm reasonably certain I played more than that in 3 days.

Pyg brought an ostrich egg and lots of bacon, which became Sunday's breakfast with the assistance of some power tools. I still have some of the egg in the fridge awaiting garbage day.

My dog decided that grapes are delicious, so he got an emergency vet trip on Sunday. He's fine, if expensive.

Clean-up was pretty easy, and people even helped me get the Sprite back into the garage.

And that's sort of it from this end.
