L5R: Honor of the Empress

Honor of the Empress is a near future setting extrapolated from the current (June 2010) Empire of Rokugan. Nevertheless, the setting may diverge from the official storyline as the Gamemaster does not intend to redact his background to match further developments in the official setting after play begins.

After the death of the consort Akodo Setai in the year 1193, the elite samurai legion which served him has foundered, most of its members retiring to monasteries or to their homelands. But now, a decade later, in dire need and with few she can trust, in an Empire riddled with intrigue and fractured alliances, the aging Empress Iweko has turned once more to the few remaining samurai of the Sword of Setai.

Called before the Empress by her voice and former chancellor, Bayushi Hisoka, these few samurai may be the last hope of a dying Empress determined to preserve her legacy.

Characters will be mid to high rank members of an elite military unit that once served under the command of the empresses consort. Members are typically bushi or militant shugenja, but allowances can be made for reasonable concepts.

The game will be run using the 4th edition rules for Legend of the Five Rings. Character creation details will be released in the forum once those rules have been released. Characters can be no younger than 26, as the unit stopped recruiting ten years ago, and as old as their mid-40's; overdue for retirement in Rokugani culture. The Sword of Setai recruited throughout the Empire, and members can be from any clan.
