The Unicorn very much need them for Politics points for this leg of The Race. We have a shot at beating the Dragon and the Scorpion. Please please please bring all your Nayan's tonight. Thank you!

Don't forget you can help your clan, its late in the leg, but there is time for some Fan Fictions and such...

So last night we manages a small game

Me, Brennor, Jigglypuff69

Musha Shugyo

So last night we had a little card game, this time it included myself Mirumoto Brennor, and Yoritomo Godaro. This was the first time in a long time that Brennor played L5R and he used my Dragon Kensai deck. This was a legacy/open environement.

First Game: Me Hare Clan from Musha Shugyo vs Godaro's Ashigaru/Ronin -- I won Military after a well fought turning point battle.

Second Game: Me Spider Clan Kung Fu-Leng vs Godaro's Ashigaru/Ronin vs Brennor's Dragon Kensai. -- Godaro has to leave due to time, and I won military in the end.

Third Game: Me Hare Clan vs Brennor's Kensai -- I won military, but this was a really good game, I was missing provinces, and the game hinged on one large battle that could have gone anyway. Brennor really put up a fight for not having played in years and then only having played a few times.

My Hare Clan deck was taken from the Fanzine Musha Shugyo 2 found at this link.
Check this place out its great:

The games were fun. Still stinks that some of the more interesting cards never showed up in any of the games.

We'll have to try it again once the Dragon deck gets more weapons. ;)

ATTENTION L5R CARD PLAYERS

The Imperial Gift is coming to our store Sat Novemeber 8th. The Imperial Gift you ask?

http://www.l5r.com/samurai-championships-imperial-gift/

This November is your chance to fight for the Clan you love alongside fellow samurai around the world. The weekend of November 7-9, 2008 sees the finale of the Samurai Championships at Dojo Days stores throughout the globe. This dramatic storyline will be the final chance to score points for your Clan in the Race for the Throne and have your voice heard in determining who will be the next Emperor of the Emerald Empire.

The storyline of the Global Event will be tied directly to the ongoing story at the Samurai Championship Top 32 Finals in Los Angeles. While those 32 top players from around the world compete in the Tournament of the Celestial Heavens, players all over the globe will ensure the Tournament occurs without any'¦ evil interference.

Centerfield Cards and Comics is on the participation list! This is an offical storyline event, that allows you to earn points for your clan.
Defenders of Ningen-do

The greatest heroes of the Empire have gathered in the tournament grounds near the Plains of Thunder, assembled by the announcement of a grand Celestial Tournament by the Voices of the Sun and Moon. Dozens have assembled to compete, watched and supported by hundreds of their kinsmen, including the most important and powerful individuals anywhere in the Emerald Empire.

This has not gone unnoticed.

The forces of Heaven wish to re-establish a proper, reverent order in the world of man, but the forces of the Realm of Evil do not consider such an outcome acceptable. The forces of Jigoku have thrived for decades in the atmosphere of fear and ambition that mankind has wrought, and they have no intention of allowing that to stop.

The Clan that claims the most victories in this Global Storyline Tournament will be responsible for thwarting an attack by Jigoku on the Celestial Tournament, the pivotal event in determining the next Dynasty of the Emerald Empire. The cost of victory may be great indeed, but the clan will gain a favor from their new Emperor, and the blessings of the Voices of the Sun and Moon will be showered upon them as well.

But the storyline tournament and its associated Race for the Throne points in the Military Sphere will not be all that is at stake. Much like the Kotei events, this Global Storyline Event will allow you to earn points in many ways. These are:

Military: Tournament Winner '€" The winning Clan at each event.

Spirit: T-shirt Dominance '€" Clan with the most Clan T-shirts on at each event.

Knowledge: Most Demos '€" Clan who gives the most demonstrations of L5R with non-L5R players in the store that day.

Politics: Best Decorated Store '€" The Clan that best helps decorate their store in all things their Clan.

Economy: Booster Draft Event - Stores will be able to run a booster draft event and winners will earn Economy points.

So as you can see, there is much at stake at these events beyond simply winning the tournament.
The Imperial Gift
Not only will you have the chance to participate in a historical L5R event and affect the storyline of L5R for years to come, you'll also be the first to receive The Imperial Gift, Part 1. This entire expansion set is AEG's gift to fans of L5R. Divided into three releases to celebrate the beginning of the 15th Anniversary of Legend of the Five Rings, Imperial Gift, Part 1 will be completely legal for the duration of the Samurai Arc and the upcoming Celestial Arc. That's right, fully legal for the 2009 Kotei season, and yours for free!

We invite you to join your fellow samurai November 7-9, 2008 at the Samurai Championships Global Storyline Events. Don't miss your chance to leave your mark on the storyline, earn points for your Clan and be among the first to receive The Imperial Gift. Banzai!

This is probably the largest event we will have run, being totally offical and completely Samurai Edition Legal. Decks will have to be Samruai Legal as well. I'm unsure yet of the format, but we can fun multiple formats, a Booster Draft and a regular game as well, perhaps even a multiplayer. This should be a 'day long' event run on Saturday at the store.

Please comment if you are going to participate! I'm there.

Just to confirm, Centerfield has a spot for us, and we are doing this Sat Nov 8th from open to close at the store: 10am to 5pm. If you can't show for part of it, that's okay too!

Here are the rules for Booster Draft, these rules are for the older Nanashi Mura event, but the rules remain the same, if some of the details about cards change.

http://rules.l5r.com/Booster_Draft
Booster Draft Format

General Information
A Draft begins with any number of players who each receive booster packs. The tournament organizer determines the mix of packs, but each player must get the same number of boosters from each expansion set. The total number of cards per person should be in the 40's, which can mean 4 expansion boosters, 3 base set boosters, or any combinations that seems appropriate. Players are then seated randomly around a table in councils of 2 to 8.

Draft set-up
Once arranged and seated in their Councils, players may then open their first booster, determined by the tournament organizer. Players may look through that booster and select one card from that pack. Once that card has been selected, it becomes part of their card library and is no longer considered part of the booster pack. The rest of the booster pack is turned face down and passed to the person on his left. Once everyone has selected their card, they may pick up the booster that was just passed to them and select another card for their card library, again passing the remains of the booster to the person on their Left. This continues until the last card is selected and there are no more cards.

Once the first booster is depleted, the tournament organizer signals which booster players open next. Like the first booster, players select their cards. But this time players pass the booster to the Right instead of the left. Players continue until that booster is depleted and go on to the third booster. The passing direction continues to alternate, with odd-numbered boosters passed to the left and even-numbered boosters passed to the right.

Building Your Deck
After all the boosters have been depleted, players begin the deck building process. In addition to the drafted Cards each players adds the following cards from the draft pack to his card library:

To Be announced, but it should include a Stronghold, some holdings, and some fate cards.

The tournament organizer should supply draft packs cards. Players then have a time limit set by the tournament organizer for deck building.

Draft Specific Rules
Special rules:

*Decks will be constructed 20/20 exactly, No more no less
*No Sensei or Wind cards are allowed
*After one of your decks becomes empty, immediately take all cards from your appropriate discard pile and shuffle them to create that deck again. [CHANGED Sept 30 2007]
*After an event resolves, it is removed from the game.
*All card count restrictions in the rulebook are waived, so players may include as many copies of any single card in their decks as they were able to draft. The restrictions such as the Uniqueness and Loyalty Rules are not waived during game play.

Once players have created their decks, they declare two Storyline-Legal Factions. They are considered to be playing both those factions, for all card and rule purposes, throughout the tournament. Once that is done the tournament begins.

So working out the schedule for the day, and speaking to Pygmalion who has run some Magic events, I've come up with the following set up.

Or download the PDF here: http://www.dicefellowship.org/~vardaen/ ... tEvent.pdf
Image
The Booster Draft should run around 14$, and include 6 Packs of cards (5 The Heaven's Will and 1 Words and Deeds) and a support pack w/ stronghold. You do not need to bring any cards for this event.

The Swiss Rounds bring your own Samurai Legal 40/40 deck.

Prize support and event support is still unknown to me, but things are in the works already.
