Diplomacy 1: Learner Game

Diplomacy is a strategic board game. Its main distinction from most board wargames is negotiation: Players spend much of their time forming (and betraying) alliances with other players. Set in Europe just before the beginning of World War I , Diplomacy is played by seven players, each controlling the armed forces of a major European power.

So we have until Friday night to turn in our moves right?

I never played this, but I would suggest, it seems like a good idea, to try not to smash each other in the first round or so if the first learner game. Just to let some newbies get the feel for it. I'm willing to not attack anyone in any location for a bit, just to get things going.

Yes. Friday night. Most of the time, a unit that is unsuccessful is not disbanded but can retreat. Power lies in position.

Once we have sent you our pm and you have calculated the results, will each players movement be revealed? Or do we have to find out at our own why some moves didn't work?

All orders and moves will be revealed. Including why things worked or did not.

A question about retreats, this tme around there probably aren't any retreats, but when a retreat is posted, is it considering where hte unit might be, or where it starts from.

Being contigent on if you move or not, sort of confuses me.

You are essentially being forced to retreat from the field of battle (Where you were moving to).

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) you can only be forced to retreat if your move does not succeed:
- If you order a move and fail, you might get attacked at the same time, so a further retreat might be possible.
- If you hold, you might get attacked and a retreat might be possible.
- If you move and are successful, you have beaten everyone who also wanted to move there, ie you also have beaten their attacks, no retreat necessary.

So I would suggest you state retreats from the place you started out in the current round.

I have received all orders: My Diplo Software is at work however and so I will post the results on Monday Morning (European Time).
Do you think four days is ok? Or should we go with three days?
