Chapter Two - A Shortcut Across the Bay

The first Savage Tide has already touched the mortal world, yet none who live today recall this terrible time of red ruin. It swept over an ancient city, transforming beggar and noble, merchant and thief, resident and visitor, one and all into feral, ravenous fiends. What took the ancients hundreds of years to build came crumbling down in a matter of days. When the final ripples of the tide faded, only ruins remained.

Now, after a thousand years, the hidden architect of the Savage Tide gazes upon new targets. This time, the doom will not be limited to one hapless city. This time, all of civilization is perched on the shore, blissfully ignorant of what the tide is about to bring in.

Chanur pulls out his dagger and plays with it for a bit. When the Bullywug looks at ease Chanur casually closes the door and jams the dagger into the ground, wedging the door closed. He turns and draws his rapier.

"I am Chanur Von'Drak, and I am your death."

Daring Rescue - Surprise Round/Round 1

Post by Trogdor » Fri Jan 14, 2011 8:40 pm

Realizing that this may be the best chance they'll have to rescue the prisoners, Chanur jams the door shut with a dagger, nods to Wavedancer, then moves into view of the bullywug, declaring that he is the creature's death.

Wavedancer, ready and warned by Chanur's action, is able to perform a prepared set of actions.
In the surprise round, Chanur jams the door shut, walks over, and draws his sword.
Chanur's Disable Device check: 25 (I'll assume take 10)

Technically you only get a standard action in a surprise round. But I'll give you a full move since you started out of sight of Bua Gorg. Wavedancer only gets a standard action since he can be seen.
Round 0: Wavedancer 23, Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6
(Kora is unconscious)

Round 1: Wavedancer 23, Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6

Sorry, Chanur, but the baddie rolled a "20" on his init roll. Thankfully, Wavedancer rolled a "19" and has a better init mod. That means that Wavedancer gets two actions in a row!

Characters in bold have already acted this round.

Wavedancer was waiting for this. He does not have time to run up and do what he wants, and that is try to color spray the bullywug priest. Instead, he has to settle for a long range attack. He calls forth his power and flings an arrow out of no where, one thick with green acid that forms it ...
Standard Action: Acid Arrow vs. Bua Gorg
Should be 2d4 this round, 2d4 next

Daring Rescue - Round 1

Post by Trogdor » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:18 pm

Ready for action, Wavedancer makes a few mystic gestures and a green arrow, dripping acid, flies unerringly through the air, hitting the bullywug in the chest. It screams out in pain, and moves to try and pull the magic arrow out. But covered in acid as it is, the creature can't bear to hold it long enough and it continues to burn.

Seizing the moment, Wavedancer acts again.
Wavedancer casts Acid Arrow at Bua Gorg
Ranged Touch Attack (FF): 23, hit

Wavedancer leaps forward afterward, "Let us hope this works!" he yells to Chanur. He points his fingertips toward the bullywug and legs out a stream color toward Bua Gorg's face ..

Rushing forward, Wavedancer summons forth his magic again, this time to cause a flash of lights to spray forth, engulfing the bullywug priest. If it works, the sell should stun it, blind it, or maybe even knock it unconscious. But in this instance, the priest, strong-willed as priests often are, shrugs it off. But it can't shrug off the acid arrow, which finally melts into nothing, though not before widening the burn wound on the creature's chest.

Hopping up from the chair, Bua Gorg casts one of its lesser spells. Everyone in the room feels an immediate compulsion to leave it alone for a while. The feeling is overwhelming for the captives, whose willpower has been sapped in the last few hours. But Chanur and Wavedancer are both able to shrug off the effects.

Chanur, rapier in hand, continues to push his plan into action.
Wavedancer moves up and casts Color Spray. (You have to move SW W W SW)
Buo Gorg's Will Save (DC 15): 15, saves
Bua Gorg takes acid damage: 5 damage
Sorry Bua Gorg is a cleric = good Wis and good Will save.

Bua Gorg casts Sanctuary spell (DC 13)
Chanur's Will Save: 21, succeed
Wavedancer's Will Save: 23, succeed
Lavinia's Will Save: 6, fail
Zan's Will Save: 11, fail
Torin's Will Save: 7, fail

Only Chanur and Wavedancer can attack (or even threaten) Bua Gorg
Round 1: Wavedancer 23, Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6

Hoping to end this quickly Chanur moves forward and stabs at the Bullywug with his fancy new rapier.

"Good show Wavedancer, lets finish this shark bait!"
Move W-W-W and attack the Bullywug.

Daring Rescue - Round 2

Post by Trogdor » Sat Jan 15, 2011 3:07 am

Chanur leaps to action, closing on the bullywug priest and stabbing with his rapier. The blade sinks into the creature's leathery skin, but it seems more than willing to fight on. In fact, it bellows out a challenge to you all, a shout that could be heard throughout the house.

Then, something surprising happens. Lavinia Vanderboren rises up from her chair, wriggling her hands free from the ropes that bound her. Clearly she was not tied up as well as Drevoraz thought. Either that, or she somehow managed to slip free in the time she's been bound.

"Thank the gods," she says to Chanur. "I didn't think I'd misjudged you. But when I saw you all chummy with that pirate ... well, you had me worried." She moves over to the discarded cloth next to the bed and pulls it back to reveal a pile of weapons and armor. Reaching down, she picks up a rapier and gives it a few practice swings back and forth. "Much better," she says.

Zan and Torin struggle with their own bonds, but to no avail.

Wavedancer, having seen that his color spray had no effect, considers his options.
Chanur closes and attacks with rapier: 19, hit for 7 damage

Lavinia leaps up from her chair and moves to grab the rapier from beside the bed.

Lavinia has managed to undo the rope holding her. But it hasn't done her any good, so she's been biding her time. This would have been far more important if you hadn't managed to get rid of Drevoraz (who is a 6th level fighter, BTW).
Round 2: Wavedancer 23, Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6

Wavedancer considers and knows he might not get another shot at this. He releases another arrow made of acid, hoping it will strike home as the first one did and begin to melt down the toad before them.

Once more, Wavedancer makes his mystic gestures and another green acid arrow comes into being and flies through the air. But this time the bullywug priest is ready for the attack. It ducks away, getting hit with a few drops of acid, as the arrow flies past it and sinks into the wall, burning a large hole in the fine wood.

Bua Gorg steps back and begins casting a spell. Wavedancer immediately recognizes the words and gestures. The priest is trying to summon help for the fight.

Chanur, only a few feet away from the priest, can continue the attack.
Casts Acid Arrow at Bua Gorg
Ranged Touch Attack: 10, miss

Bua Gorg begins casting a spell.
Wavedancer's Spellcraft check: 28, success
It's a Summon Monster III spell. (Yea, that would have been a lot more effective if he could have hidden behind the 6th level fighter as he cast this spell.)
