Chapter Five - Reclaiming the Wyvern

The first Savage Tide has already touched the mortal world, yet none who live today recall this terrible time of red ruin. It swept over an ancient city, transforming beggar and noble, merchant and thief, resident and visitor, one and all into feral, ravenous fiends. What took the ancients hundreds of years to build came crumbling down in a matter of days. When the final ripples of the tide faded, only ruins remained.

Now, after a thousand years, the hidden architect of the Savage Tide gazes upon new targets. This time, the doom will not be limited to one hapless city. This time, all of civilization is perched on the shore, blissfully ignorant of what the tide is about to bring in.

Chapter Five - Reclaiming the Wyvern

Post by Trogdor » Tue Feb 24, 2015 9:28 pm

The Blue Nixie sits in Farshore Harbor, loaded with its own crew, the crew of the Sea Wyvern, and a number of carpenters and shipwrights who will be needed to repair the wrecked Sea Wyvern. There are a shortening number of weeks before the Crimson Fleet attacks, and every ship will be needed to defend the colony. That's why even when the need for labor is extreme, Farshore is willing to devote so many people to this task.

But here the Sea Wyverns are split. Chanur and Wavedancer, along with their new companion, Grask, stand on the deck of the Blue Nixie, while Daerith, Berek, and Fin stand on the dock bidding them farewell. At present there are just too many things to do for all of the group to spend the two or three weeks it may take to bring the Sea Wyvern back.

Lavinia is also on the docks to wish the ship godspeed on its mission. Gone is the innocent and unprepared woman that the Sea Wyverns met so many months ago. Now she is a strong and capable woman, ready to hold the weight of the colony on her shoulders, if necessary.

As everyone watches, the sailors of the Blue Nixie cast off their lines and make ready to sail.
Any last business in Farshore before we head north?

Chanur stands on the deck with his friends and crew ready to set sail again. He hopes to see his friends again but he worries for Daerith. The captain does not trust M and he is still wary of the Jade Ravens about whose activities he is unaware. He moves to stand near Amella his first mate. "Once more into her cold embrace" Chanur murmurs loud enough for those around him to hear. "Let's go save our gal, she needs us."
Unless we can get magic items here I am pretty set.

Although Simira makes it perfectly clear she isn't fond of being on a ship over water, Grask is able to settle her down quickly. "Simira and I are set." He confirms.
If Priest isn't joining us I will need to switch around a few spells, but won't be able to do that until tomorrow. Other then that, Grask and Simira are ready.

Daerith stands on the docks and waves, he's dressed in fine clothing, not his armor, but still his blade hangs on his belt, that never changes. He turns to Fin after, "To the chapel for you, and for me, gather the flock let's see what we can do to win their hearts and minds."

Konrad stands on the deck of the Blue Nixie, he waves to his wife Christina who sits on the dock (with a broken leg from the wreck of the Sea Wyvern). The pair made the trip here to start a better life and the once solider turned family man and farmer has promised to defend friend and family so he has agreed to come and help recover the Sea Wyvern and lend his falchion to the cause. He is a man of few words at this point, a bit of a change has come over him since setting out from Sasserine, but he's loyal and strong, and you are glad to have him once more. It was by his courage that the castaways that were left behind survived.

Wavedancer takes the docks in and feels the slight bobbing of the boat in the harbor and he feels like he is home again. Not that he isn't comfortable on land, but the ships deck just has a certain feel and appeal to it.

Taking all precautions into account, Grask begins to remove Simira's saddle and bridle. For some reason if she were to go overboard, it would be far easier to maneuver without it on. He places the equipment in a safe place that is out of the way.
Spells fixed and ready to go. Without Priest I figured I should slot some healing.

There is another NPC cleric in Farshore, Sarafina, the priestess that you saved in the Amiedo Jungle. She can go along with you if you feel you need a little divine support.

Just let me know.
The Blue Nixie has a relatively uneventful trip north through the tropical waters surrounding the Isle of Dread. There are a few swimming giant lizards that come near the ship. But nothing threatens it, so all the crew has to deal with is a few hours of worry. The weather is hot, but otherwise beautiful. Except for the regular afternoon rains, there are no storms or other disruptions. It's a simple three day sail along the coast to get to where the Sea Wyvern crashed against the rocks.

Rounding a spit of land, the crew on the Blue Nixie can see the wreck. It's significantly damaged, to be sure. But it rests high enough on the reef that it would be effectively drydocked except during high tide. All in all, it could be a lot worse.

The ship stops short of the Sea Wyvern however. The residents of Farshore know full well that things like shipwrecks draw all sorts of creatures looking for shelter. The chances that the Sea Wyvern is uninhabited are slim. The best tactics would be to send a group over to scout the ship out before any attempt was made to begin repairs.

Standing next to Chanur, Wavedancer says "Captain, when you're ready we can send out a boarding party and check her out."

Konrad stands on the deck gazing at the Sea Wyvern, "She's a noble ship, sad to see her this way." He looks over hearing Wavedancer, "I'd like to be among the shore party if that's alright with you Captain."

Chanur is dealing with his sick grandfather, so I'm not sure what his posting is going to be like.
"Glad to have you," Chanur replies as he directs some of the crew to lower one of the boats into the water. "Let's make it a small group," he adds to the ship at large. "Me, Wavedancer, Grask, Konrad, and Sarafina, if you want to come along. That should give us enough people to check out the Sea Wyvern while leaving sufficient force to defend the Blue Nixie."
Do you want Sarafina (8th level cleric of Celestian) to accompany you? If so, Grask can swap his spells back.
