Act 3 - Carnival on Ice

The Age of Magic is ended, Bhall, the Goddess of Fire, has succumbed to the whispers of Agares and fallen into Hell. Her worshipers and creations driven mad, and fire, which has been a powerful ally to man, has turned against him. Each good god was charged with the opposition of an evil god. Bhall was responsible for balancing Mulcarn, the God of Winter. Finding himself unopposed Mulcarn has broken The Compact and moved into Creation.

Creation was on the verge of another open war between the gods, that which they had outlawed with The Compact. To keep that from happening a deal was struck and the gods agreed that one god would enter Creation to challenge Mulcarn. That was Sucellus, the God of Nature. The two gods battled across the face of Creation, entire civilizations still recovering from the Burning Skies that marked the fall of Bhall were destroyed by their power. In the end Sucellus was killed and Mulcarn remained.

"Thank you again, Beltarion," Celevan says when the townsfolk have departed. "Will you join us for a meal, and perhaps overnight. It's a long way back for you and you've probably been on the move all day. I expect you'd appreciate a chance to rest."

"Yes, certainly," says Dreams. "Another helping hand would be welcome, especially in these grim times." She is deeply relieved that all the people turned into trees survived--they have lost enough lives and she would shuddered to see hope snatched away from those who were waiting for their loved ones to be turned back from trees to humans disappointed.

She looks down at Nessa and Gunner, shivering in the cold air. "We should probably get these two back to town. Nessa, I'm sure the rest of your siblings will want to see Gunner as well. Will you walk into town with us, Beltarion?"

Beltarion smiles towards everyone and nods, "I would be delighted to accompany you back to town. Perhaps we can talk more about this exciting proposition you speak of. For now a meal and a warm bed after a long day sound wonderful." Looking over the now empty grounds, where all the trees once were, Beltarion lets out a sigh of relief. Despite whatever reputation he has gained over his solitary years in the woods, the chance to help those in need and spend some time with others was much welcomed.

The group helps escort the kids back to town taking with them Beltarion with an offer of dinner and adventure. You find yourselves back in your own house, Edgrin and Torrak are there with the rest of the kids as well. The pair have been cooking in fact and so you walk into a fine smelling house with two "grown men" bickering on if they should put sage on the lamb or rosemary. Edgrin is a small little man with a round face and a constant smile, while Torrak is a bald beardless dward -- the twin of Torias, but without all that battle gear on.

As you arrive with Gunner, the kids, Jak and Griet leap to their feet and rush over to him giving him a big hug. "I'm okay." He assures them before slumping down on the bearskin rug near the fire to rest.

As the door closes behind the last of you and the warmth of the fire settles in you hang up cloaks and capes, and remove your winter coats. Someone comments that its the last time you'll be going outside without something warm on. Winter has some to stay, and little to you realize, it might never leave again. (Unless of course the PCs in the Children of Kylorin game have something to say about that!).

So back at the house you welcome Beltarion in.
I'll let you chat/rp with Beltarion, when you think you are ready to move on let me know.

"Now, now," Celevan says, stepping into the house and over to the kitchen. "Cut the lamb shank in half and use rosemary on one half and sage on the other. I know I'm for sage. But I believe Jurin likes rosemary, and he's the guest of honor."

Then he steps back and offers a seat to Beltarion. "The house can be hectic at times, especially when the kids are visiting. But it's homey, and its warm. You're welcome to my room tonight." He gestures at his door. "I'm fine out here for the evening."

Torias whispers to Celevan and Dreams, <Elohim>He has been acting strange in the last two days, I think being hacked at inside an ice block is pretty scary. But I think the kids and Edgrin are doing him good. I think he should stay here for a while - I do think any stress could drive him over the edge. And I like the feeling of a strong dwarf warrior looking after the kids." <Elohim>. He nods to Torrak, his twin brother. "See, he seems alright now."

Then Torias looks at Beltrarion's reaction and makes an inviting gesture.

As everyone settles in the house Wilfried lingers outside. Despite the cold and the snow the Half Orc has made himself at home in a shack outside with his new Wolf friend. Overall while he appears somewhat companionable he appears to dislike the company of many people and closed spaces.

Now that Beltarion has turned the trees back into people, Dreams suddenly finds herself feeling very listless. She knows the feeling all too well--the same sense of grief weighed her down after the death of her betrothed and the destruction of the great library at the hands of the Frostlings. When Celevan invites Beltarion to stay, Dreams observes darkly, "He can stay in Syrronas' room." She pauses, silently uttering a prayer to Junil and Lugus for strength, and tries to pull herself together, both for the kids and this stranger who has helped them. In Elohim, she tells Beltarion sadly, but with less darkness in her voice, "Syrronas was one of our number who died fighting the Cold Rider's minions. We will be having his funeral soon, but I think he would be happy to have you take his quarters."

Dreams listens to Torias' words. Inwardly, she cringes to hear a dwarf mangling the elegant Elohim tongue, but outwardly she does not show any sign of it. Instead, she simply replies in the same language, "Yes, I think it will do both Torrak and the children good."
It doesn't matter how well Torias has mastered Elohim. Although she's too polite to ever say anything about it, Dreams shares the common prejudice of her people that the Elohim are the only civilized group and that the elven tongue should never be taught to outsiders, since no elf can possible master the nuances of its pronunciation. Or so most Elohim believe.

Beltarion shows clear signs of being overwhelmed. He stands and watches silently as the children interact, while the others cook dinner and even more discuss sleeping arrangements and events. As best as he can Beltarion attempts to put an appreciative smile upon his face, then turns to Dreams and responds in Elohim, "I'm so very sorry for your loss. I do not wish to inconvenience anyone," the second part towards Celevan, "Perhaps I can camp in common area? Anywhere near the warmth of a fire would be pleasant. I have a bedroll of my own which I find quite comfortable."
