Act 3 - Carnival on Ice
Strange winds blow down from Droskar's Crag, bringing on an early winter.
The ground crunches underfoot with thick frost, and autumn surrenders without a fight.
Days grow shorter and stars hold court in the darkness reigning above.
An unnatural cold permeates the town, and the Foam River's jubilant voice is frozen under the ice.
Birds abandon their nests for warmer climes, their songs silenced by winter's grim embrace.
But the frozen riverbank now hosts a shimmering respite from the gloomy cold in the form of garish tents,
joyful shouts, and sumptuous smells.
Quinn's Carnival has come to town.
** Early Morning, Home, September 24th, 52 Years After the Fall of Bhall **
It has been a week since your return to Falcon's Hollow after defeating the Kobold of the Truescale Tribe under Droskar's Crucible. That time has been well spent and many new revelations have come to light. You've managed a good many things as well, a home for the kids and one for yourselves. The codex of the old witch Ulizmila has been partially decoded and the existence of wonders in the Cold Marrow revealed. Training and shopping, crafting and relaxing, and even a bit of flirting (even if its one way) has all taken place.
This morning however is the first day of Quinn's Carnival. The town has been abuzz with it for days and today the Carnival opens to the public having finished setting up finally. You are woken up by a pounding on your front door of excited hands.
Opening the door with bleary eyes Syrronas looks out into the cold street at four little fur bundled children and any only slightly taller Edgrin. He too looks sleepy, but the kids, the kids are wide awake. "The carnival is open! Are you coming? Are you coming?!" Nessa and Gunner bowl Syrronas over almost as they push into the house, Griet and Jak right behind them. They kids seem to be doing alright considering their recent encounters with the kobolds. Edgrin smiles at Syrronas, "I told them we had to come see you first before heading up to the Carnival, so here we are." He yawns deeply.

Celevan looks up from his hot tea and the book on medicinal herbs that he's borrowed from Laurel. "Oh my," he teases, "does the carnival start today? I though for certain it didn't open until tomorrow. Are you sure you have the right day." He can't help but let a small grin cross his face.

Gunner furrows his brow, "Tomorrow?" His voice is a whine of disappointment.
Nessa punches in him in the ribs, "He's fooling you Gunner, don't be so stupid." She wags her finger at Celevan, "It starts today and you know it! Don't make the little ones cry, or Gunner."
Gunner looks hopeful that his sister is right but looks to hear it from Celevan himself.

Celevan's grin turns into a smile. "Why I think you're right. It does start today." He looks down at the children. "Someone had better wake everyone else up or we'll be late." He gives a nod toward the bedrooms. "Go on."
Better the kids wake up the dwarves. he thinks. They might survive the process.

Re: Act 3 - Carnival on Ice
Dreams has awoken early, as she usually does, and is kneeling on the floor in her room, praying to two small images of Junil and Lugus that she has set up in a niche in the wall. When she hears the sound of children's voices and fists pounding on the door, she smiles in spite of herself, quickly finishes her prayers, and opens the door. Looking down at the children with a bemused expression on her face, she says, "Yes, what is it? What has you kids up at this early hour?"

Though the sounds of visitors clearly awakens Torrak, the bald dwarf decides to play opossum. Giving the children chance to try and wake him, the dwarf then feigns still being asleep and prepares himself for the worse. Hope they don't crack a rib the dwarf worries playfully as he suddenly begins to pretend snoring as loudly as he can.

Re: Act 3 - Carnival on Ice
Gunner jumps, "Alright." The young man hurries into the dwarf room, and pokes Torrak, "Wake up! Wake up! Carnival time!" Gunner then jabs the dwarf in the ribs like a kids on Winter's Day morning, he's excited beyond expectations.
Nessa replies to Dreams as she appears, "Quinn's Carnival starts today. I saw Kilani and Kitani heading up the river to the place. They have all kinds of tents and creatures with them." She obviously snuck a peak during the last few days while they were setting up. "Are you coming?"
Edgrin yawns again, "I sure hope they are."

Syrronas staggers back from the door as the children storm into the house. "My oh my, eager as beavers they are."
"Edgrin, you look awefully tired, what have you been up to?"

Re: Act 3 - Carnival on Ice
"Oh, there's a carnival in town?" says Dreams, feigning ignorance. "Well, I guess that is a good reason to get up early. We'll definitely have to go check it out." She looks at the bard and says, "Though maybe you should have let Edgrin sleep in a little." As she speaks, Dreams feels her resistance to going to the carnival leaving her. Partly it's that the children's enthusiasm is infectious, partly it's that going seems like part of her duty towards the children.

Re: Act 3 - Carnival on Ice
Torrak continues to feign sleeping. Right up until the point that Gunner's poking almost becomes bothersome. Then, without uttering a single word, the bald-headed monk suddenly leaps up from beneath his covers fully dressed and acts quite the fool. "CARNIVAL TIME!?" the dwarf squeals with enthusiasm. "I NEARLY FORGOT!" The cheerful monk then jumps up out of bed and rushes to the front door screaming "CARNIVAL TIME!" as much as he can. After swinging the door open and dashing outside into the morning cold for a few steps, Torrak quickly turns about and comes rushing back into the house, chuckling quite heartily. "CARNIVAL TIME!" he continues to ramble on gravelly, his teeth all but chattering. "LET"S GO GUNNER!"
