Act 3 - Seeking Justice

The Age of Magic is ended, Bhall, the Goddess of Fire, has succumbed to the whispers of Agares and fallen into Hell. Her worshipers and creations driven mad, and fire, which has been a powerful ally to man, has turned against him. Each good god was charged with the opposition of an evil god. Bhall was responsible for balancing Mulcarn, the God of Winter. Finding himself unopposed Mulcarn has broken The Compact and moved into Creation.

Creation was on the verge of another open war between the gods, that which they had outlawed with The Compact. To keep that from happening a deal was struck and the gods agreed that one god would enter Creation to challenge Mulcarn. That was Sucellus, the God of Nature. The two gods battled across the face of Creation, entire civilizations still recovering from the Burning Skies that marked the fall of Bhall were destroyed by their power. In the end Sucellus was killed and Mulcarn remained.

Act 3 - Seeking Justice

Post by Vardaen » Thu Apr 05, 2012 5:49 pm

Strange winds blow down from Droskar's Crag, bringing on an early winter.
The ground crunches underfoot with thick frost, and autumn surrenders without a fight.
Days grow shorter and stars hold court in the darkness reigning above.
An unnatural cold permeates the town, and the Foam River's jubilant voice is frozen under the ice.
Birds abandon their nests for warmer climes, their songs silenced by winter's grim embrace.
But the frozen riverbank now hosts a shimmering respite from the gloomy cold in the form of garish tents,
joyful shouts, and sumptuous smells.

Quinn's Carnival has come to town.
** Late Afternoon, Carnival North of Falcon's Hollow, September 24th, 52 Years After the Fall of Bhall **

Having visited most of the carnival the group has split up. Allareia-Nosaki-na'Tirris Arrasul-Elassyrin-el'Tirion, or better known as Relcutant Follower of Dreams of the Dancers in the Glade Clan, has been witness to a near raping. The Elohim Paladin can not allow such injustice to go unpunished. Luckily the group spotted the situation in time and put an end to it before anything happened, but the man responsible Mutters Kondolan, a local lumber tycoon, was driven off. Having bluffed his way to freedom the man is on the loose, but Dreams seeks jutice for the girl and that means finding Sherrif Baleson. Last seen near the ice skating pond the Elohim woman stalks that direction reaching the edge of the pond to him Baleson and Laurel skating about the pond deep in conversation.

Dreams pauses, eyeing the ice. She would prefer to walk over the sheriff and start a conversation with him in a non-obtrusive way. She doesn't want to slip on the ice either. Shrugging, she decides to risk her dignity and slowly moves across the ice to where the sheriff is.
Half-speed across the ice, or whatever I need to do to be cautious.

Dreams puts a foot on the ice and finds it to be slippery as, well, ice. Carefully she shuffles across the ice heading out toward Baleson. About a quarter of the way out two kids come racing past her and ZOOOOM on bye. They shout as they go, "Hey Dreams!" Looking at the racing kids she realizes that was Kimi and Nessa that just zipped past her. The young local girl has been teaching Nessa how to skate, and it appears the young girl is a natural. Nessa slows down and turns around skating back coming to a stop before Dreams. "You know its more fun if you put the skates on right Ms.Dreams?"

Dreams grins at being called "Ms." Dreams. To the kids she says, "Oh, really? I'll have to try later later. Right now, I need to talk to the sheriff. Could one of you could go fetch him for me? Maybe when I get the chance, you two can give me lessons." Dreams wonders if she hasn't made herself just as conspicuous sliding across the ice as she would have if she called to Baleson from the shore. She mentally shrugs to herself--it's too late to change course now.

Nessa smiles, "Sure." She skates out onto the pond proper and right up to the Sherriff. You can't hear her but you tell she's pointing at you and letting Baleson know you are looking for him. The man nods and him and Laruel skate over to where Dreams is standing ten feet out from the shore on the ice. "Greetings." Baelson isn't the best skater but he's not terrible either it would seem. "Enjoying the carnival I hope? You know its really much more fun out here if you put some skates on?"

Laurel jabs him in the ribs, "Leave the girl alone, she's obviously here for something important, look at her face." The herbalist shop owner smiles at Dreams and motions at the shore, "Perhaps we'd all be more comfortable over there?"

Dreams nods grimly, "Yes, unfortunately, I'm here on business. Let's talk on the shore." She turns to Nessa and Kimi, letting a smile show on her face. "You two go have some fun. I'll try to be back later so you can teach me how to do this properly." She then turns and begins sliding back to the shore.

When she and the sheriff are both there, she says softly, so the casual listener won't hear her, "I'm afraid I'm going to have to put a dent in your fun for the day--I need to report a fairly seriously crime. I and the others stumbled on Mutters Kondolan trying to rape a young woman named Lily. We stopped him before he got anywhere fortunately. He tried bribing us to leave him alone." Dreams sounds particularly disgusted by the last bit. "When we refused he ran off. Lily went home alone as well--I offered to escort her, but she wanted to be alone. Kondolan seems to be thinking he'll be safe since he's one of Kreed's men, but I'm hoping you can ensure that isn't the case."

Deldrin listens with a stone face while Laurel looks utterly disgusted at the news. "You have to do something Deldrin!"

The Sherrif nods, "I will try, Mutters is protected by Kreed, he has money and power in this town, and thankfully he didn't actually commit his crime, thanks to you." He stands there on shore, his skates making it impossible for him to pace about. "The man is a filthy letch, and its not the first time he's been accused of this sort of thing." He reaches for his shoulder, where his axe normally is, but isn't right now, "Thank you for telling me Dreams, this is a serious matter, and I'll look into it as much as possible. I fear the Lumber Consortium is going to hush things up with money, but if the girl will speak about it, we might be able to nail him."

Dreams nods. "Well, I hope she's willing to speak out--though I can see why she might not be willing to." She sighs, even more disgusted by the corruption of this town than before. "I wish there was a way to make Kreed see that he would be better of in the long run if everyone in town was better off. I guess I haven't tried to make that case to him, but I suspect it's beyond him." She shrugs and tells Baleson, "If you need any help from me or the others in arresting Kondolan, let us know. We'd be happy to be ..." she searches her memory for the word "... I think deputized is what you humans call it, from the lore I've read."

Baleson nods, "I had hoped to avoid trouble to day, the carnival only comes so often, but I suppose I've ignored my duties long enough." He sits and takes off the skates. "Thank you Dreams, if I need help, I'll come find you folks." The sherrif collects his axe from where he left it and strides off to deal with Mutters.

This leaves the girls, all four of them, at the ice. Nessa smiles, "Come on Dreams, nows a good time to learn to skate!"

Dreams says, "All right. First I need to rent some skates, don't I?" She looks around for where she can do so. Once she has paid for them, she sits down to put them on saying, "OK, Nessa and Kimi, show me how I'm supposed to do this." She can figure out how to put the skates on herself, but she wants to give the kids a sense of competence and being able to teach and lead others.
