Act 7 - No Shortage of Peril

The Age of Magic is ended, Bhall, the Goddess of Fire, has succumbed to the whispers of Agares and fallen into Hell. Her worshipers and creations driven mad, and fire, which has been a powerful ally to man, has turned against him. Each good god was charged with the opposition of an evil god. Bhall was responsible for balancing Mulcarn, the God of Winter. Finding himself unopposed Mulcarn has broken The Compact and moved into Creation.

Creation was on the verge of another open war between the gods, that which they had outlawed with The Compact. To keep that from happening a deal was struck and the gods agreed that one god would enter Creation to challenge Mulcarn. That was Sucellus, the God of Nature. The two gods battled across the face of Creation, entire civilizations still recovering from the Burning Skies that marked the fall of Bhall were destroyed by their power. In the end Sucellus was killed and Mulcarn remained.

The Eternal Winter has begun...

Act 7 - No Shortage of Peril

"During those days, what remained of the people of Braduk faced a difficult choice: side with the people of Icatia and forfeit their titles, or join with the evil Calabim empire and face the wrath of the people. In the end, those who openly sided with Calabim were killed or driven into exile, while those who embraced the south retained much of their wealth and influence. A brave few places chose neither side, unable to relinquish their cherished independence and unwilling to side with a foreign empire."
- Histories of the Fallen Empires, Vol II
** December 3rd, Falcon's Hollow, 52 Years after the Fall of Bhall **

Its been a few days since the arrival of the Cleric of Mulcarn. He came not with a storm but with fair weather, and since his arrival the sky has been clear and the snow has taken a holiday. He wasn't what many of you expected, but to be fair you weren't sure what to expect. The most recent calamity, the spreading of the Palepox through the town and nearby fey was ended, at your hands. You've all managed a speedy recovery, and the town itself has seen the last of it purged from the locals thanks to the work of Laurel and the wizard Vade. He's taken the strange cursed basin to study it more, and you hope you've made the right choice in letting him have the thing.

With Vondrella's Cult of Ferrell dead and scattered the void of any religious group in town worries you. Since Fannar Winterson has arrived just in time to fill it. There isn't much you can do about that right now however, since for a long while Falcon's Hollow has needed a supply run south. Its taken longer than expected, what with the building of the church and the Palepox spreading to get a caravan together to travel south to Olfden for the overdue supplies.

The last day you have been extra busy seeing to things, making sure those people in town that need stuff have an order in, or are prepared. You are going over some of the final touches now outside the Hollow Tribunal. The Tribunal was once run by Vamros Harg, but he died during all the troubles and now it sits empty. Another clear sign to the lack of law in this place.

Gathered before the Tribunal are all manner of folks with a stake in this venture. There are three large sleds parked in the front as well, some of them have bundles on them, traveling gear for drivers and porters and others who are going on this venture along with you. Each sled is pulled by a team of large horses. Among those gathered are the names in town would expect to see.

The Gavel Thuldrin Kreed stands with Stormy Pearl Madison and several lumberjacks and boot-licks of the man's inner circle. One of the large sleds belongs to Kreed and he has a large stake in the venture of both materials and manpower. Milon Rodhham along with Stormy Pearl Madison will be leading this sled along with a few other men.

Next are the local merchants who have pooled resources to help fund a sled, including Brickasnurd Hildrinsocks, the dwarf merchant who own the Goose n'Gander, the general store in town. Jak Crimmy, the balding red haired owner of the inn Jak-a-napes, is in serious need of supplies for the inn, including his signature cinnamon for his world famous flapjacks. Darius and Felecia Grindstone, the couple that currently runs the Sitting Duck mill about with the other merchants making sure their order will get placed. With them, just to the side are less than savory characters.

Kabran Bloodeye, the short half orc that owns the brothel the Rouge Lady is with the old carnival master Namdrin, they have a stake in with the merchant's sled, and in fact they have put the most coin into funding this particular sled. A few of their bouncers are milling about as well.

The third sled is yours, or at least under your control. Its a strange tale how this sled came to be yours to command. This sled belongs to Tessa Kelrand, the former wife of the Carnival Master Namdrim Quinn. After you saved her from the Dark Ice Fey she left her husband, but not Falcon's Hollow. She hasn't played any recent part in your adventures, but she's been in town, avoiding Namdrim and recovering from her ordeal. Now that a group is leaving Falcon's Hollow so is she. She's agreed to give you her large carnival sled to use in exchange for seeing her safely to Olfden or beyond depending on how things go. This was mostly arranged by Laurel who had been checking on Tessa now and then tending to her lingering malady after bring trapped in the dark ice shard. So the sled is yours to pilot and use for your uses, as well as Laurel and Baleson and Vade's. Tessa is on board, along with Kimi Eavewalker, the half elf girl who's been causing trouble for Vren's siblings for a while now. The young girl's mother died during the carnival, and her father, an Elohim ranger, hasn't been heard from in a long while. She's insisted that she go along to try and find news of dad in Olfden, which might be possible as his last know venture took him south. Tessa, feeling bad for the girl since her mother died at the carnival has agreed to take her along in the sled.

There are several smaller sleds as well, drawn by dogs, not horses, owned by a few others in the town like Adran of the Black Dog Boarding House, and a few of the more well to do lumberjack families. Counting your group of six, there are 18 total people taking on this adventure south.
Welcome to the 7th Act! The plan would be to go south to Olfden for supplies and return. All of the logistical and bookkeeping stuff is done by the NPCs for the most part. I will make a Tab on the loot sheet with who's on what sled, etc.

It is some 100 miles to Olfden

Drak helps with gathering of equipment and inspects to make sure the sleds they are going to be riding are in perfect working order. The last thing they wanted would be for a sled to fall apart before they got to where they are going. A thought suddenly comes to him as he leans over to the group so no one else can hear. "Are you sure it is okay leaving our new Cleric here with so many important people gone? It wouldn't surprise me that they may take this opportunity to seize control before we know what is going on. They don't call him Mulcarn the Betrayer for no reason."

Edgrin is among your group, he's packed your food for you and has brought Gunner, Nessa, Griet, and Jax to say good bye before you leave. He catches what Drak says, "Don't worry, not all these folks are going, just their representative. You think Kreed is going off to haul equipment? Not a chance."
I will get a thing up on the loot sheet, till then.

Dreams is nervous about leaving, with the new cleric of Mulcarn present and their group not having had time to begin setting up someone to replace Vondrella in administering charity programs in Falcon's Hollow. This nervousness is reflected in her pacing back and forth, but she doesn't say anything in front of so many people.

Celevan makes the best of the current situation. It wasn't ideal to be leaving Falcon's Hollow. There was so much that could go wrong while they were gone. But the town needed this supply run if it was going to survive and there was no one else to lead it.

He joins Drak in examining their sled, and double checks all they have packed to make sure they haven't forgotten anything. He also makes a last check with those gathered around to make sure that they have all the lists of things people need.

Braedon helps check and double check that all which will be needed for the trip is on his possession. He has a history of leaving one thing behind whether it be something simple or important. Convinced it will not happen this time, he latches his backpack and inspects the bindings on his snowshoes. He anticipates a fair amount of his time might be spent with his feet on the ground. Seeing Dreams pace back and forth, "Stop pacing, you're beginning to make me nervous."
Number Two: "You are number six."
Number Six: "I am not a number, I am a free man!"
Number Two: "Muh ha ha ha ha!"

Checked and double checked. All the lists are done. So it seems. You have gold from various people, lists of supplies wanted and needed, and all manner of instructions from Laurel or Vade or Kreed even on how to handle things. You've never been to Oldfen, it will be a new venture for all of your small company. That is save for Milon, he's been before, several times, and Tessa to, she used to bring the carnival through there years ago. The road is simple enough, or it was before all the snow, still you shouldn't have trouble finding the town.

As people are making their last minute preparations Aela perks her head. The large white wolf Mjallhvít lopes into view. A moment later Fannar arrives. He waves and offers greetings to a few locals before he spots your group and walks over, "Winter's Blessing on you friends." He smiles warmly and waves to you. "So I hear the town is sending out a supply run. I was hoping I might impose on you?" You can see in his hand he has scroll, no doubt a list of supplies he wants. "As you might have noticed my new home is rather spare, and I could use a few items. Might you be willing to help me?"

Braedon sighs as Aela stands tall at the presence of Mjallhvít, Winterson's majestic wolf. "We are not going to be gone forever." His eyes widen a bit at the mans request. Not wanting to be confrontational, he steps forward and receives the scroll. Without opening it, "We will do what we can."

"Thank you very much Braedon. You will find on the list simple things on the list, tools and supplies I'll need." He hands over a sack to Braedon as well, "Here is enough gold to cover what's on the list I should suspect. Whatever is left over is yours to keep, think of it as a commission."

Dreams is somewhat wary of getting things for Winterson, but seeing what the man wants might be a way of learning more about him. She sighs and nods as Braedon accepts Winterson's list and money. She will try to talk the others into taking any remaining money and using it to fund charity programs in Falcon's Hollow.
