Book 2: Act 2 - What Lies Beyond

Enter the Stolen Lands, a wilderness claimed by nobles, bandits, and beasts alike. Into this territory the fractious country of Brevoy sends its emissaries, tasking them with subduing the lawless folk and deadly creatures that have made it a realm of savagery and shame. Beyond the last rugged frontier stretches the home of voracious monsters, capricious fey, wily natives, and bandits who bow to the rule of a merciless lord none dare defy. Can the our heroes survive the Stolen Lands, bring their dangers to heel, and lay the foundations of a new kingdom? Or will they just be one more fateful band, lost forever to the ravenous wilds?

Werewolf: Escape into the Night

Post by Vardaen » Mon Apr 07, 2014 7:25 pm

Round 3 Lem 23, Werewolf 16, Aetoron 10, Haldalel 8, Cal 6, Valen 5
Lem tries to hold his ground, he's done it in the past, a small target able to bob and weave with his bow to get shots off even up close and personal. This time he bobs, and grabs for his arrows, but the strap on his quiver breaks and all his arrows, all those precious silver arrows spill out all over the ground. Its like some kid's game of pick up sticks, there are silver and normal arrows all over the place mixed together at Lem's feet.

The werewolf howls, and takes the moment of peace to turn tail and run! It dives out of the way of Honey and the Bat, and then circles around the nearly disarmed Lem and takes off south out of the market place. It is fast, racing through the streets, leaping over debris and slipping corners and turning into allies in the dark. You give chase, but its fast, and gains ground on you, lost among the streets. Perhaps you can track it later, but for now, its vanished into the night.
Lem:" Ranger Trick Defensive Shot: "1" (Fumble chance: 1") Critical Fumble! Spilled Ammo: Your ammo fall sfrom its contaier and takes 1d6 (6) round to gather up! Rest of the round lost.
WW: Acro to Avoid AoO: 24 vs Honey Success, vs Bat Success, Speed 60, Slips into the night

FWIW it had 5 Hps left. With a Speed 60 I feel like it can escape, even with the Bat's 40 Fly to try and track it. If that happens the WW escapes into the wild west of town, and into the forest.

"Damn!" Cal says, running to the edge of the makeshift marketplace and looking down the street to see if he can spot the werewolf. "He's too fast. We'll never catch him in this darkness." He stops his pursuit, not knowing what direction he ought to go in. The baron stands there for a moment looking out into the dark street before he takes a deep breath and turns around to face the others.

"That was well done," he says. "Even though we didn't slay the beast, he's certainly been driven away. We'll send word to Leveton, the temple, and anywhere else we think he might run to, giving warning of him and what he is. I'm afraid that's the best I can do. I'm sorry that he'll live to kill again. But I'm secure in the belief that it won't be here."

Cal runs to the edge of the market square and curses. There is no way to catch the werewolf, even Corwin and Archimedes won't be able to keep pace with the fleeing beast. Cal offers up his words of encouragement when you then hear a horn blast. Its Colban's horn on the edge of town. The Captain of the Guard had said he was going to get the watch to tighten the circle, perhaps they managed to do that in time?

"It's colban's Horn. Quick maybe they were able to corner the beast." Lem calls out as he gathers up the silvered arrows.

"To Colban," Cal yells, running toward the sound of the horn.

The group takes off, Lem is a bit behind trying to gather enough arrows to be of use before rushing off. Valen Calanthir are on the way, Honey, slowly, waddles behind his master unable to keep up (badgers are rather slow!) Aetoron and Haldalel bring up the rear fanning out.

The group races to find a grizzly scene before them. Colban stands over the body of two men. The first is one of the city guard, his stomach ripped open, a claw like gash spilling blood and intestines all over the ground. The other man has a longsword through his chest and lays on the cold earth naked as the day he was born. Colban's horn swing around his neck as he starts to kneel to try and help his fallen guardsman.
You guys rallied he guard and all that, so I gave Colban and 1 Guard 1 round of actions. The WW killed the guard, and Colban actually scored a Critical Hit for 11 Dmg - 5 DR = 6 Wounds. The WW had 5 left after it fled you! Lucky.

Cal joins Colban at the fallen guardsman, leaving the dead werewolf to the others. "He fled before we could finish him off," he says almost apologetically to the Warden.

Valen immediately channels a prayer to the Elk Father hoping its not to late "Elk Father if there is life left in this man please save him."
I figure he is probably dead but worth s try. Channel energy exclude the WW.
