Arenhal nods, moving toward the target. Even crossing the street in full light, he seems to be hiding, moving straight across the street, but also directly toward shadow. "If there's more rats, we close the door again," he promises.

"Poor creature." Nimiriel pauses to pull out a piece of dried elk meat and tosses it lightly in the general direction of the cat.

The aasimar similarly takes pity upon the animal. Giving the cat plenty of space he roots around for a shallow bowl of some kind. Once he finds it, he empties some of his waterskin into it, placing it in the middle of the floor and backing up. It might love that people are back, or be terrified by the experience. Best to let it have its space for the time being.

Arenhal sees the cat is well taken care of and begins looking around, "Let's see what you were locked in here with, kitty." He begins to search the room carefully, rapier out. "How long do you think it's been alone?"

You try and tend to the cat a little, some fresh meat, and a little water go a long way to making it feel better. Its skittish and paranoid, and you can't do more for it than that, and maybe leave the door open. If you had a druid in the group perhaps you'd get more out of the creature.
A search of the place only discovers that this place must have been a weavers home and workshop both. It was a cramped home, there must have been several children at least that lived here. Nothing more is discovered.

"Well, we haven't been able to do anything good for the people here yet. At least we were able to save a cat." He says so without sarcasm. He feels horrified and impotent, the feeling growing as they go deeper into town. Every moment of brightness helps. "Let's get going."

Arenhal nods, "I'd like to get out of here soon, let's go." He heads opens the door, waiting for the others to leave before propping it open to make sure the cat doesn't get locked in again.

Cats are people too! Well, better than people, if you were to ask the cat.
Out the group goes, and across the street to the next of the larger buildings. You inspect a few more homes, some larger, some smaller, all the same sort of situation. The people just vanished without cleaning up after themselves for the most part. You then see one house unlike the others.
Unlike the other houses in town, the front door of this one has been broken down. A small yard adjoining the house and surrounded by a low picket fence holds the smashed remains of many clay vessels and statuettes.

The bard approaches even more cautiously than normal, his eyes darting right and left. "Don't need to state the obvious as to why this is different. And doesn't look like someone was trapped inside and escaped, more like someone was barricaded inside, resisting whatever happened." He edges toward the side fence, moving to check the perimeter rather than diving inside.
