Book 3: Act 1 - The Stuff of Legends

Enter the Stolen Lands, a wilderness claimed by nobles, bandits, and beasts alike. Into this territory the fractious country of Brevoy sends its emissaries, tasking them with subduing the lawless folk and deadly creatures that have made it a realm of savagery and shame. Beyond the last rugged frontier stretches the home of voracious monsters, capricious fey, wily natives, and bandits who bow to the rule of a merciless lord none dare defy. Can the our heroes survive the Stolen Lands, bring their dangers to heel, and lay the foundations of a new kingdom? Or will they just be one more fateful band, lost forever to the ravenous wilds?

"NO!" Nimiriel shrieks, momentarily losing her composure. Her pupils turn pitch black as she calls upon her divine power once more, determined to rip apart the creature's exoskeleton.
Welp, since I'm too late with the Freedom of Movement, we'll just cast Boneshaker again and see if I can squeeze out a few points of damage.

Arent has little ability in this situation to effect change. The creature is not humanoid, and is not capable of understanding the language of man. A bard in such a situation is not at his best. "Keep it up! Don't let it escape!" He keeps up the fire, and urges the Luggage to just try to rip a leg off.
Arent will shoot. Luggage doesn't have much of a chance with Grapple, so just Attack instead.

Nimriel screams, she's lost her composure and as she turns her rage on the Chuul you can't help but notice her eyes turn a rather dark shade of black. She doesn't notice it of course, but anyone looking at her can see those orbs in her eyesockets become solid black, void of color. Then the Chuul's exoskeleton explodes!

It sprays crab meat all over the place, white goopy ichor along with its red and white muscles under the shell just coat everyone within 15 feet. What's left of it topples into the river and is slowly washed away down stream

The half-elf Oracle of Zohls takes an uncertain step backward as the power that flared within her is released and she watches as the current carries the remains of their foe down the same watery path Danil was now traveling. She moves the rest of the way to the north side of the water and sits down heavily on the bank, burying her face in her hands.

Arent is no stranger to death, nobody in this wild world completely is. But the senselessness and the suddenness of it all ... now that the immediate threat is gone he just stands there. He does so for a long time, his mind ignorant of the cold flow of water around his legs.

Arenhal takes a few steps away from the dead lobstrosity before dunking his head under the water. He then wades after what remains of Dan that he can, the man deserves proper rites, or as close as they can get.

The Fall of Mad Dog

Arenhal takes a cold shock to his system and it stirs him to action. He hurries down stream and collects as much of Daniel as he can, some of him has already washed away. Still the grim work begins, the man's split body is pulled to the shore and laid there. A shovel and a soft patch of earth is needed now. Some of his gear dangles or is loose, and is reverently laid to the side.
Here are the items on Dan that maybe you 'loot' from his corpse. Maybe not. All items not listed are washed away or just not worth talking about.

Placing the remains he's gathered on the shoreline, Arenhal looks at the others, "Is there a nearby spot we can bury him? Or should be pile stones on him and do a better job later?" He's cold, with gore still dripping from him. "And I guess we should take anything we need, we can return it to his next of kin when we get back to Stagfall."

"We might build a cairn," Nimiriel speaks, softly. She wipes her eyes and sniffles before finally standing up. She hugs herself and looks at the ground. "The...smell...will draw scavengers. A cairn would do better to protect him than a shallow grave."

Arent stumbles after, his senses coming back to him after a minute. "Yes, whatever best can be managed. A cairn would be ideal." The Luggage trundles along after the bard, its thoughts its own.
