Episode 2: The Citadel

In the year 2148, explorers on Mars discovered the remains of an ancient spacefaring civilization. In the decades that followed, these mysterious artifacts revealed startling new technologies, enabling travel to the furthest stars. The basis for this incredible technology was a force that controlled the very fabric of space and time.
They called it the greatest discovery in human history.

The civilizations of the galaxy call it... MASS EFFECT.

The group loads into the Moulari, "The Mule", and eventually finds it lives up to its name. The first mate of the ship greets your at the door, a human with a pot belly and a heavy beard, "Welcome aboard mates." He ushers you into the ship and to a small seating area for passengers. Mostly it would appear the ship hauls cargo, and on occasion people, like today. He helps you get settled in, and explains the situation to you, "Welcome to the Moulari mates, we don't look like much but he's a fast ship, can make the Mar's run in under 5 days." He rubs the side of the ship, "We don't look it, but we run a tight ship, this area is for you, bunks pull down, stay out of the other areas except for the head and we'll get along just fine. I'm taking you someplace in the middle of no place, get comfy its not a short ride." He waits for any questions and then joins the Captain in the cock pit. After 40 more earth minutes the docking clamps unhook and the ship is pulling out of the Citadel. With no windows or portholes on the ship you are flying blind, it isn't anything new, many ships lack view ports, but something about this one just feels funny, like its slow and plodding along, despite Bata'Vek's readings he takes from time to time.

"That won't be a problem," Kinney replies, assuming that the quarters and lack of access may be connected to the secrecy of the whole station they are departing to. "We're going to stay out of your way. What's up in the head?"

"I think he means that we can use the facilities if we need them," Selena replies. "Isn't that what you humans call them on a ship?"
"Head" is another word for bathroom on a ship, Haya.
The Asari has no questions for the captain. For the moment, they are supercargo and the best they can do is stay out of the way of the crew. She stows her duffel bag in a locker near one of the fold-down bunks and takes a seat, ready for the long journey ahead.

Yikes!
I thought about the appearance of the ship and didn't even think that lavatories are -not- included in the quarters.

Btw, how spacy are is the place with the bunks?

"Right, right," Kinney replies, blushing about the mistake. "Haven't been much on naval vessels since I was younger. Well, it seems we're pretty much confined to our quarter then."

Knight nods to the first mate.

"No problem."

Bata'Vek shrugs. "Well if you need an assistant engineer, I'm your man. I grew up on the Flotilla, obviously, so I know my way around a ship. If not, I'll just stay out of your way." He throws his stuff on a top bunk, and begins breaking out his arms and armor to further modify them.

The Moulari: A Four Day Trip

Post by Vardaen » Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:22 pm

The First Mate actually consider's the Quarian's offer. The trip will take you several days, even with the use of Mass Relay Gates. So you hunker down for a relaxing ride. From the Citadel you hit one Relay after another, traveling across systems or jumping from one to another. You have to stop for fuel one time, but that doesn't even give you a chance to disembark as the station is designed for deep space refueling. You work your way closer and closer to the Milky Way Galaxy and are soon heading for the Argos Rho cluster. On day two the First Mate comes and collects Bata'Vek and the Quarian spends much of the rest of the trip tuning up the engines and helping with some minor issues on the ship -- nothing to worry about.

Once in the Argos Rho cluster you are down to ships engines and no more Mass Relay jumps. The ship avoids an asteroid belt that encircles the system's single yellow white F0 class sun. There are five planets here, and two rings of asteroids in the system and as good as you can tell you make for the 2nd asteroid field. Someplace out in the middle of the system the Moulari begins its final approach. The captain's voice comes over the comm system, "Buckle up, we are preparing to dock." It cuts off and that's all you hear from the crew for the next hour and a half. Then the tell tale sounds of a docking tube, clamps and mag locks. The First Mate appears in the crew area, "Well, everybody out."

The door starts to pressurize with a hiss as it starts to open...

Selena is an easy traveler. When the others are interested in conversation, she's happy to engage with them. When they want silence, she either does some work on her omnitool, plays one of the variety of games she has access to, or simply meditates. Back at the monastery, they'd occasionally spend a week or two in silent meditation. Several days cooped up on a ship is not anything that bothers the Asari.

When they get to the Phoenix system, Selena gets her things together and ready for departure. And so, when the first mate says it's time to go, she simply shoulders her duffel and waits for the door to open.

Kinney takes the days to occupy herself with catching up on old mail she has not taken care off for weeks so she can send them off a terminal when they are outside again. None of it mentions the latest events, except for a note about leaving ExoGeni and an assigned by the Systems Alliance. She's not sure when they can be sent or even if the are allowed to do so from Pinnacle Station and if they are she assumes that it'll be checked so she keeps everything rather general. Although that only takes a couple of hours she spends the rest with a bit of light exercise and catching up on some recently purchased movies and music and wastes hours not only watching a re-release of the whole Blasto movie series but also a lot of material of an Earth sport called "American Football" which she used to watch with her grandfather when she was younger.

The human is ready to go when the ship docks and doesn't haste a minute to debark from the Moulari.

Jason is obviously not so good a traveler as some of the others. He gets bored frequently, without his usual hobbies to keep him entertained. Some of his time is spent doing calisthenics, though the cramped quarters make this easier said than done. When the others are in the mood to talk he takes advantage of the situation. Most of his downtime is spent messing around on his omnitool and looking up various things on the extranet (usually firearms, though he does spend some time looking at news sites dealing with Citadel and Alliance politics, as well as playing Galaxy of Fantasy when it looks like no one is paying any attention).

Jason breathes a sigh of relief when approach is announced and all of Jason's belongings are ready to go by the time the ship is docked.
