Mission One: A Leisurely Stroll

Post by Eanwulf » Wed Mar 27, 2013 8:21 pm

This Thread Is For Point (Hayabusa) Only!

Point leaves her room a short time after the security guards departure. The curious Asian quickly taps her cigarette case in a playful rhythm and proceeds to peruse the surrounding halls. The dimly lit hall outside the runners' room appears to be running in some kind of an eco-friendly setting. As such, it seems to currently be set on an energy-saving "night-time" mode.
Runner lights adorn the hallways and dim (powered-down) overhead lights exist as well. As you pass beneath them, the overhead lights brighten slightly. Should you stand too long beneath one (10 seconds or so) then the light above you goes to full brightness. An equal amount of time later (with nothing underneath detected) the light gradually resumes its normal eco-friendly illumination (dim).

This being said, Motion Detectors of some kind must definitely exist along the halls.
Point's "enhanced" hearing quickly denotes the rhythmic whirring sounds of electronic camera motors coming from the lighting above as she walks. Of course the sounds are amidst a mechanically droning and already unsettlingly "breathing sound" that appears to be caused by the rig's internal machinery, so any of the runner's sensations of apprehension are only intensified even further.
Sure enough, there are tiny (black plastic "domed") fixtures fitted atop the ceiling, security cameras. Probably a dual-camera rotating type (360 degree vision) that utilizes the hall's motion detectors to lock-on to a target and then pivot about as needed in order to track their movement. The fact that they are currently tracking you as you walk would probably indicate that they have some form of low-light capability, but whether or not they possess any form of thermal detection or other features remains to be seen.
Making her way down the hall, Point spots the showers and laundry room up ahead. The passage she is traveling in is currently empty, though by the time that she is nearing the laundry, several towel-clad crewmen suddenly appear from out of nowhere and seem to be making their way towards the showers.
General Response post and reaction to the four crewmen headed into the showers. They seem to be wearing nothing more than a towel around their waists, another over their shoulder, and then some manner of ID card which dangles about their necks by a chain.
You made your way from Area 14 to Areas 10-11 thus far. This is when you notice the crewmen.

This boxlike building is located just under the helipad.

1. Stairway
Leading down to the main operations deck of the rig.
2. Control Room
Nerve center of the rig, this room contains the main computer, communications system, and monitors of all rig systems.
3. Control Center Crawlway
This narrow passage allows separate access to many control room circuits and systems.
4. Equipment Storage
Lightweight tools and other equipment used on the upper rig are stored here.
5. Gym
A workout area for the crew.
6. Hyun Maeng's Office
“Organized clutter” might be the best way to describe this room, with printouts and reports scattered over all the furniture.
7. Kitchen
Including a large pantry, this automated kitchen is well stocked.
8. Recreation/Dining Room
Also doubles as a theater. This is the main gathering place of the crew and always has at least half a dozen people in it.
9. Crew Quarters
This section of the living deck is actually two stories high; the rest of the deck just has ceilings. Metal stairways lead to the upper levels. Each of the sixteen rooms has four bunks, accommodating the majority of the 70 man crew.
10. General Bathrooms
These facilities are used by the rig crew: common showers, etc.
11. Laundry
Large, industrial laundry with a stack of South Korean Electric uniforms.
12. Hyun Maeng's Quarters
Hyun Maeng and Jin-Ho Yong are the only two staff members who have a private room. This one is rather disheveled.
13. Jin-Ho Yong's Quarters
Maintained in an antiseptic state of cleanliness.
14. Guest Room
Your current residence; this room would be cramped for more than three people, but most of the rig crew consider it luxurious; it has a private bath (which Yong actually uses when the rig isn't having guests – one more reason for him to resent you).
15. Stairway
Leading up to the main platform and helipad.

Point passes the rooms with interest but tries to appear more bored overall. It's good that Yong's room is so close to their own. The whole corridor is a mess to sneak through, she concludess, narrow and fitted with motion-sensitive lights and cameras. Maybe it's a bit much for a platform 400+ miles away from the mainland but if the security chief had any input then this would be what he might have suggested. She wonders if they're also equipped with low-light and thermal vision. The latter quite likely considering that this is a drilling rig, the other rather pointless with the motion-activated lights.

When the crewmen appear Point begins to smile, seeing an opportunity to gather something useful. "Hello," she says in the best Korean possible. "Are these only for the workers or others too? Because I share a room and we have a shower but it is so cramped in there."

Two of the four men appear to be slightly embarrassed by Point's sudden presence, the towels about their waists suddenly growing an imaginary size or two smaller than they were just moments before the woman's query. One of the men however, merely shakes his head and looks somewhat sarcastic. He then steps forwards.

"You want to take a shower with us?" the crewman replies in Korean, his face now grinning slightly. "Then try your keycard and see if they let you in." The man points towards a maglock attached to the front of the bathrooms and then continues. "Otherwise go back and shower in private with the others from your team."

Having said his peace, the crewman motions to the others and they continue on towards the showers. One of the men pauses momentarily to remove the keycard dangling from around his neck and swipes it against the side of the maglock fixed to the front of the door. A tiny red light turns green as he does so and the door slides opens. The four men enter and a short time later, the door slides closed.

Now left alone in the corridor, Point soon notices more people traveling along the hall to the west. Some seem to be making their way into the crew's quarters to the north. Others down south into the Mess Hall & Commissary. No matter what their direction, the crewmen all seem to be doing the same thing, using their keycards to gain access to the various parts of the rig.
Looks like they're going a tad old-school on security. Personalized key-cards provide access to specific portions of the rig. Who knows what yours has been allowed access to. Better yet, who knows what will happen when an invalid keycard is tried to be used.

Intrigued by the heavy use of keycards, Point decides to check out the mess hall. She's not going to try her own out at some doors so maybe that of someone else will suffice. She walks past the general bathrooms thinking that it is quite odd to need a card for even that. A short bump into another worker, aiming for one of the security guards to swipe a card from one and making a quick scan before returning it. Turning left she enters the mess-hall, using her keycard if it is required.

Having reached the entrance to the mess-hall, Point reflects upon the past few moments.

She has seen nothing but blue-clad workers thus far and silently marvels at the notion of actually wishing for someone from security to show up now. Her mind then drifts to the thoughts of why one would need a keycard to enter the showers. Yawning briefly, Point wonders if it might have something to do with the current time and a company's desire to avoid any excess forms of sexual-harassment issues and other loathsome affairs that might occur in the showers during the late hours of the night. Regardless the reasoning, she ultimately decides to wait until one of the crewmen exits the mess-hall to slide her way in and enter.

The dimly-lit Rec Room apppears to contain two groups of people. The first group is comprised of two men and two women, all of which sit huddled together in some chairs on one side of the room. Each person there seems to be watching some manner of a melodramatic action-adventure movie (in Korean) upon the trideo player. The other group consists of three rambunctious gentlemen whom sit together around a table in the smoking section of the room. Two of the men appear to be intoxicated and all are playing dice and grumbling loudly whilst sipping away at their cups filled by a shared bottle of Soju.

The first group cuts Point a series of stern glares as if inquiring "why" the woman is invading their space. They then turn their stares towards the second group as one of the three men there suddenly leaps up from his chair and shouts something happy.

Two of the three men from the second group merely turn to acknowledge Point's presence then smile mindlessly. In time, one of them motions for the woman to come over and join him at the table.

Sorry for the late reply, Wulf. I barely have time (and internet too) and only make a couple of posts every day.
Point has no reason not to join the gamblers so she does just that. With a smile she walks over. "You won't mind if I joined you, do you?" She asks.
