Rod balances to the right side to the first knot and tries to unfurl the first part of the sail.

Re: Book 3 - Act 1: Perilous Waters
Seroneth moves through the crowd, her crew notices, they know her and so may join or follow along. Others in the crowd don't pay her any mind.
Roderick works on the first piece of the sail and undoes the knot with ease.
Seroneth spots the Bilgerat move up to one of the ropes, he moves to untie a knot there. Any sailor worth his salt can tell that if he manages to it will cause the foremast rigging to crash into Roderick!

"Stop, rat!" Seroneth shouts in a commanding voice as she continues to stride forward. She points at the bilgerat and rests her other hand upon the hilt of Vengeance, her katana.

Rod leaves the middle bit tied for the moment and moves to the outmost part to untie this one.

Hoisting the Main Sail - Victory!
The action for many is up in the rigging, Rod is flying ahead of the other man, and it seems doubtful there is any chance he fails -- unless....
... Seroneth points at the rat of a man, "Stop, rat!" and the twitchy man turns, his beady eyes on her, He's been made, he draws his dagger and slashes one of the many ropes, and one of the yard arms swings wildly under Roderick, who leaps deftly from the precarious perch back to solid ground not skipping a beat. Yet lines and sails are a mess now raising the difficulty of his task.
Still Roderick is out in front by a good margine. He manages to avoid the tangle of ropes and sails that all a mess now. He darts from Main Mast to sail, then back to the other side, then back to the other side, ping ponging to avoid undoing one side before the other is partially done. He's clearly in the lead, when the other sailor misses his footing and slips. He topples forward but manages to grab himself before he falls. That time is gone now, and Roderick's sails are flapping in the wind well ahead. The crowd cheers some groan, there shouts of cheating for both sides, but in the end its obvious that your captain has won the day.
Tsadok grunts even as you see bets being settled up and gamblers collecting their winnings. "Well it seems you are decent enough sailors! Now its time for a friendly game of cards."

Hoisting the Main Sail - Victory!
Rod takes his hat off and bows to the crowd in a practiced move, smiling at everyone. Then he looks over his officers. "So who's up for a game of cards?"

"Oh, don't look at me," Seroneth says with a grin. "I'm good with my hands, but not in that way."

Re: Book 3 - Act 1: Perilous Waters
"Friendly means no knife-fights started by sore losers? Or because the other side cheats, caught in the act or not?" Flavinia quips to Seroneth, if this wasn't serious business, she'd be all for a game of cards, the funniest bluff was to make men think she'd be willing to risk staking away the clothes on her back only to find that she had deeper pockets than she let on, assuming they weren't encouraged to make very stupid mistakes, men often were once the thinking started to come from between their legs...

"I think "friendly" here means they wait until the game is over to stab you," Seroneth responds with a chuckle. "You can do it, Captain!" she shouts to Rod. "We have the utmost faith in you."
