Chatter - Warforged Racial Options

Post by Vardaen » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:37 pm

So many races (all PC ones) have racial substitution traits that you can mix and match things with. I was thinking would be something we could consider for our Eb races. Starting here with Warforged.

Here are some ideas:
]
Composite Plating: The plating used to build a warforged provides a +2 armor bonus. This plating is not natural armor and does not stack with other effects that give an armor bonus (other than natural armor). This composite plating occupies the same space on the body as a suit of armor or a robe, and thus a warforged cannot wear armor or magic robes. Warforged can be enchanted just as armor can be. The character must be present for the entire time it takes to enchant him. Composite plating also provides a warforged with a 5% arcane spell failure chance, similar to the penalty for wearing light armor. Any class ability that allows a warforged to ignore the arcane spell failure chance for light armor lets him ignore this penalty as well.
Alternate Racial Traits
The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.

Medium Composite Plating: Warforged with this plating are better armored than their lighter counterparts. The plating used to build a warforged provides a +4 armor bonus, you have a 3 Max Dex, and an Armor Check Penalty of -3. Composite plating also provides a warforged with a 20% arcane spell failure chance, similar to the penalty for wearing light armor. Any class ability that allows a warforged to ignore the arcane spell failure chance for light armor lets him ignore this penalty as well. This trait replaces Standard Composite Plating.

Heavy Composite Plating: Warforged with this plating are better armored than their lighter counterparts. The plating used to build a warforged provides a +6 armor bonus, you have a 1 Max Dex, and an Armor Check Penalty of -5. In addition it reduces your base land speed to 20ft. Composite plating also provides a warforged with a 35% arcane spell failure chance, similar to the penalty for wearing light armor. Any class ability that allows a warforged to ignore the arcane spell failure chance for light armor lets him ignore this penalty as well. This trait replaces Standard Composite Plating.

Natural Healer: You have an increased connection to your living state. This allows you to repair lethal damage, nonlethal damage, and ability damage when you rest, just as other living creatures. Likewise, you heal faster when you have complete bed rest, and when a character uses the Heal kill to put you under long-term care. This trait replaces a Warforge's immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, disease, nausea, fatigue, exhaustion, effects that cause the sickened condition, and energy drain. You can not take the True Construct alternate racial trait.

True Construct: You have an increased connection to your construct state. Like other constructs, you are not subject to nonlethal damage, stunning, ability damage, ability drain, and death effects or necromancy effects. This trait replaces the ability to be healed by spells of the healing subschool, in addition, you can no longer benefit from the effects of consumable spells and magic items, such as heroes' feast and potions. You can not take the Natural Healer alternate racial trait.

Good idea V! Shifters already kind of have that built in. You could think about replacing the athletic ability with keen senses. Otherwise there's not much to swap out.
