Book 5: Act 1 - Those Who Tarry No Longer

It is the year 2946 of the Third Age, and the lands east of the Misty Mountains are astir. From the cloud-shrouded peaks above the High Pass to the spider-infested gloom of the forest of Mirkwood, paths long-deserted are trodden once again. Busy merchants carry their wares to new markets, messengers bring tidings from foreign realms, and kings send forth armed men to extend their influence and the rule of law. Some say that a new age of freedom has begun, a time for adventure and great deeds to reclaim glories lost in long centuries of oppression and decline.

But adventures are not really things that people go out and look for. They are dangerous and rarely end well. While it is true that a handful of valiant individuals set out to make their mark on the world, for others it seems that adventure chooses them, as though it is the path they are fated to tread. They are restless warriors, curious scholars and wanderers, always eager to seek what was lost or explore what was forgotten. Ordinary people call them adventurers, and when they return successful, they call them heroes. But if they fail, no one will even remember their names...

Varuthil grins as her arrow finds its mark. One less orc in the world. As the others close in on her, she quickly sheaths her bow and draws her sword, attempting to parry the orcs and strike at them with her sword. She finds herself very glad she invested the time and effort in training with the sword.

Round 2 Heroes, Enemies
Round 3 Heroes, Enemies
Finn presses his advantage, leaving himself open to counter attack as he swings several times at the orc. He connects lightly with the shoulder plate of the orc and knocks it back a few steps. His foe however spits, snarling, and leaps forward nearly driving his sword into Finn's belly, but Finn knocks the blade to the side at the last moment jarring his arm.

Varuthil switches from bow to blade and drives her slender weapon into the thigh of the charging orc. Her weapon drives in deeply into the meat of the beast, and it throws it back into the trunk of a tree. A wild sweep of its blade makes her step away, but she easily avoids the strike.

Your guard facing off against an orc of his own, strikes, parries, and dances with the enemy for a few more moments neither one getting the upper hand. Irime looks on without worry.

Round 3 Heroes, Enemies

Round 4 Heroes, Enemies
Finn parries, but the force numbs his arm some as he counters. His blade sweeps upwards to try nd take the creature by surprise but it brings its buckler around and blocks the strike. It then kicks Finn the chest knocking the wind from him as he's pushed back. The orc manages a howl, "We will gut you!"

Varuthil strikes, a simple yet easily defended against stroke. The orc leaps back, avoids the swing and strike his own blade forward. The she-elf however continues to prove impossible to hit and she dances away in time.

Your lone guard seems to struggle just as much as you both, but lands a light strike on the orcs shoulder. The orc spits on him, and stabs, grazing his leg with the bent and rusted sword.

You fight on...

Round 4 Heroes, Enemies

Round 5 Heroes, Enemies
Finn breaks off his attack and beings a chant, a war song of silver swords and victory. He rallies you all, himself included, to fight on to victory. Varuthil hears the song and swings. Her blade takes a drink of the orc's neck and slices the head almost off. It is flung backwards from the force and topples over dead in the bushes.

The orc facing Finn steps back, listening, angry, it snarls, "Shut your stupid mouth!" But it swings so recklessly that Finn easily steps away and to the side.

Your elven guard on Irime drives his own blade into the belly of the orc, ending it with a kick of his boot sending it dead to the ground. He readies himself for more, but for the only one one remains near to Finn.
