Book 6: Act 2 - Men-I-Naurgrim

It is the year 2946 of the Third Age, and the lands east of the Misty Mountains are astir. From the cloud-shrouded peaks above the High Pass to the spider-infested gloom of the forest of Mirkwood, paths long-deserted are trodden once again. Busy merchants carry their wares to new markets, messengers bring tidings from foreign realms, and kings send forth armed men to extend their influence and the rule of law. Some say that a new age of freedom has begun, a time for adventure and great deeds to reclaim glories lost in long centuries of oppression and decline.

But adventures are not really things that people go out and look for. They are dangerous and rarely end well. While it is true that a handful of valiant individuals set out to make their mark on the world, for others it seems that adventure chooses them, as though it is the path they are fated to tread. They are restless warriors, curious scholars and wanderers, always eager to seek what was lost or explore what was forgotten. Ordinary people call them adventurers, and when they return successful, they call them heroes. But if they fail, no one will even remember their names...

Varuthil hisses angrily as Brok is slain. She lines up another shot with her bow and takes it, aiming for the more vulnerable looking joints.

Muskrat, if you spend Hope on your attack, your shot should become a great success

Tauler the Hunter: Round 2

Borir shouts a dwarven curse at the creature as he lunges forward hoping his strike can finally take down the beast. With a great swing of his axe, the dwarf throws himself forward and even closer into the fray.

Tauler the Seven Legged

Post by Vardaen » Wed Sep 27, 2017 7:05 pm

Borir and Varuthil press in on, Dwarf and Elf, Axe and Bow. Borir's blade connects once more with such force that it knocks down several blocks from the Mill Fort's crumbling wall as he gazes across the hard outside of Tauler's other leg.

Then *THUNK*. Varuthil's arrow sinks into the belly of the beast and it hisses in true pain.

The bulk of the beast rises up and it leaps from the Millfort's side into the branches of a nearby tree. Black blood spraying, it screams, "I will not forget you!" With a lumbering bound it crashes into the tree line, shatters a few branches and pushes into the darkness smashing and leaping as it goes. From today forth he shall be known far and wide as Tauler the Seven-Legged.

Rathar lies on the ground foaming at the mouth, and Brok lies headless not far from him.
Borir Open Rolled: Feat Die: 9* Success Die: 3,6t,3,5,5 Totaling: 31 with 1 success = Great Success: 11 Hate -10 = 1 End
Varuthil rearward: Rolled: Feat Die: 2* Success Die: 5,5,3 Totaling: 15 + Hope = Success: 5 End
Its enough to drive him off, but you aren't in any real threat of killing him outright so let's not prolong it.

Tauler the Seven Legged

As soon as Varuthil sees Hauler flee, she rushes to Rather's side and begins examining him, pulling out various herbs in order to treat his paralysis. Her hands are brusque but sure.
Healing, plus Leachcraft trait. Spend Hope to get Rathar back on his feet.

Finn follows Varuthil to aid her as he can. He calls to Tom, "Come quickly and do whatever she tells you to." The Lakeman looks Rathar in the eyes, and knows that he is partly to blame for sending the man into such a dangerous position.

Tauler the Seven Legged

Varuthil darts for Rathar the moment Tauler withdraws. Her bow hits the ground and her pack is out. Tom is hustling a few moments behind as Finn calls to him. The elf's leachcraft is good, but the wound Rathar has is nothing short of fatal. Or it would be on a lesser man without the aid of an elf. She works furiously to staunch the bleeding, then to clean the wound of the poison, but she can do nothing to purge the poison already in his blood. After many long minutes, she wipes her forehead with the back of her hand, leaving a smudge of blood there, and Rathar's breathing returns, his pulse is there, but he doesn't move or act. The paralytic poison is serious, and he will remain in this catatonic, near death like paralyzation for who knows how long!
Healing + Lechcraft (+3)

Rolled:
Feat Die: 9*
Success Die: 2,4,1
Totaling: 16 +3 = 19 Success

Okay Rathar will live. His wound is treated, but he has only 3 End, (+4 here coming from the rest) and seriously harsh poison in his system, He's off death's door, but it will be a while before he's fit to move or walk.

While I'm at it I'll refresh you all +Heart for the rest after the fight.

Seeing what Varuthil has been able to do, Finn is relieved and yet the precariousness of the situation is far from over.

"Let's get him inside the Millfort. If Tauler returns, he won't be able to easily reach us, being as big as he is. But this is as safe a spot to rest as any, while we watch and see if Rathar is able to do anything. Then I'd like to explore the Fort some more."

Borir initially begins to chase after the creature, yelling ancient obscenities and various things that shouldn't be repeated around hobbits or young children of any race. After catching his breath, he watches as the other take to Rathar.

Moving to his fallen kin, Brok, the dwarf looks to the remaining dwarves. Taking a knee at Brok's side, he closes the fallen dwarf's eyelids and says a quiet prayer over the fallen companion. When Finn mentions exploring, Borir says, "First we see to the fallen."

Tending the Fallen

Post by Vardaen » Fri Sep 29, 2017 6:42 pm

Varuthil, Finn and Tom help to move Rathar into the mill fort.

Meanwhile Nalir finally shouts, "I told you this was a bad idea Bofri! Look, look at Brok! A Veteran of Nanduhrion, and a true paragon of our people, and now he's dead because this stupid venture! We should have left when Rathar said the place was empty!"

Bofri snaps, after having been silence since Brok Ironfist's death, "Oh would you SHUT UP Nalir! You have done nothing but complain since we left the Erebor!" He walks over to Borir's side and looks down at Brok's head and closed eyes now. "Brok wanted this, he was strong and stalwart, and a true Khazad. I will weep for him later. Now we will tend his body." Among the gear is a small camp shovel and he and Borir, over the course of the next hour, bury Brok near to the Mill Fort and place a marker on his grave.
