"Naturally a Dwarf would find something hidden by Dwarves," says Finn. "Well done. What have you found?"

Borir looks confused for a moment and says, "It wasn't hidden. It was right here." It's not quite understood, if he was joking or serious.

The dwarf then pulls out the long slender chest, several crumbling leather bound ledges, and a small casket. He looks for a moment to see if there's any runes or markings on the chest, casket, or ledges.

As he flips through the ledges, he mumbles off some of the wordings, "Roadwarden Ledger.. Mill Fort Log...". Sitting down the books, he gets ready to open the chest first.

"Here Bofri" says Finn. "I think you might find this ledger to be quite interesting." Finn did not care for the ledger of travelers on the Old Forest Road. At least he didn't see a reason to care. But he was certain that Bofri would.

"When does the ledger run to?" asks Varuthil. "Depending on when it was kept till, it's possible some of the later entries might tell us something interesting about how the Shadow took over here."

Bofri comes running and is greatly excited to see the log and ledge book. He carefully opens it, as its damaged from age and weather, "My my my! Nalir look at this!" It has all sorts of mundane date in it of course, dates of travelers passing by, resupply caravans, scouting reports, more and more information of that sort. Most of it only interests Bofri and Nalir and maybe Borir. It is written with the cirth of the Khazad so most of you cant' even read it anyhow. Bofri looks up to Varuthil, "A good question Varuthil." He flips to the rear of the book but finds that its terribly damaged, apparently there was a leak in the wall and rain for years has been creeping in and has ruined it. "Alue's Hammer! Its ruined!" He checks the dates as best as he can and finds it goes back hundreds of years or more, there is no telling when the Mill Fort itself was finally ruined.

Nalir then looks at the chest, "What of that?"
I honestly don't know the date that would being the book, so... let's not press the issue ;) Its old!

Finn nods, "Yes, I do find myself more interested in the chest. What have you found, Borir?"

Borir smirks at his kin's reactions to the ledgers. After the discussion as died down, the dwarf then goes to open the box.

Borir pulls off the lid of the long and slender chest...

A magnificent staff of lies within. It is a walking stick of Dwarf-make, with a shaft of polished wood topped
with a pearl as great as a small dove’s egg. Its maker engraved runes of power and protection on the wooden shaft.

Bofri's face lights up, he reaches out and lays a hand on the smooth wooden staff, "This is the Roadwarden's Staff! I never thought we might find it! To think it was hidden here all these years!" He is absolutely beaming. Its clear he knows of it, and knew of it before setting out. He looks to Borir, and at the staff and then lifts it up with both hands reverently holding it horizontally testing its weight. "Amazing."

"Besides being a treasure, what I want to know is... what is its purpose?" Finn asks to no one in particular. He was impressed by it, and wondered if this is what Bofri was really after in recruiting them to this "scouting" mission.
