Testing out the Rules
So what do you say we give some of the rules a little test?
Namely combat since its so much different than many other games we play.
I was thinking we'd pit Mukrat's Elf against Trog's Hobbit and see how it work.

Re: Testing out the Rules
Sure. I have a feeling this won't go well for my hobbit. But it should give us a feel for the rules.

Re: Testing out the Rules
We'll use Pipkin Brandbuck the Wanderer version of his sheet.
We can start with opposed tests as Pipkin is sneaking up on the Wood-elf who is standing guard over a large feast of roast venison and wine.
Pipkin's Shealth (Favored) 3
Varuthil Awareness (Favored) 2
So for
Pipkin we roll a Feat Die (d12) and 3 Success Dice (d6) vs TN14
For Varuthil we roll a Feat Die (d12) and 2 Success Dice (d6) vs TN14
No one is weary or fatigued or any of those things. I have a nice Dice Roller page for this:
http://www.voidstate.com/rpg/one_ring_roller.htm
or
http://www.arcdream.com/tor/dice/index.php
These are opposed rolls, but still have to have the TN14. Pipkin would be the active player:
Pipkin: 5 + 3,2,6(t)= TN16 Great Success
Varuthil: Eye! + 2,2 = Failure
So he doesn't see the Hobbit coming at all with that failed roll.

Re: Testing out the Rules
Sp Pipkin gets the drop on Varuthil and is allowed an opening volley against him, and since he's a ruthless when it comes to a good meal the hobbit attempts to shoot the elf from out of the shadows for that feast.
The previous post really came into play with the Ambush rules found in the Loremaster book, man this might be trickier than I thought.
The difficulty of all volleys is equal to TN 12, plus the Parry rating of the target, modified by a shield if one is carried by the target.
Anyhow, Pipkin's opening Volley: TN12 + Parry 6 (Wits, no shield was surprised) = 18
Pipkin's Bow 2 Ranks: 1 Feat Dice + 2 Success Dice = 5 + 1,6(t) = 12 vs TN 18 Fail

Re: Testing out the Rules
Now Pip could use a point of Hope to add his Body to the roll, and since Bow is a Favored weapon skill he gets to add his favored Body to the roll. A total of +4, which would make the 12 a 6, and that is not enough to get to 18 so no point in spending the Hope.
during the game it would be good is players, in their ooc spoilers mentioned like
"Willing to spend Hope", then I will spend the Hope IF and only IF it would result in a success. Otherwise I wouldn't spend them.

Re: Testing out the Rules
I'm a it surprised that you still add Parry when Ambush is in effect.
The difficulty of all volleys is equal to TN 12, plus the
Parry rating of the target, modified by a shield if one is
carried by the target.
If a target is aware of an incoming ranged attack (a
warrior advancing to join a confrontation definitely
would be) a shield doubles its modifier, as the carrier
deftly protects himself.

Re: Testing out the Rules
Anyone see any issues so far?

Re: Testing out the Rules
Not so much an issue as an observation.
Given that we start with a 2 in our best attack stat, it's going to be a 50/50 shot, at best, to hit anyone until that goes up to a 3.
Average roll for a 2 skill is 7 + 6.5 = 13.5. Assuming a minimum of 2 Wits, that means that slightly less than 50% of shots will hit the easiest possible target.
