Book 1: Chapter 1 - Troubles in Tharbad

It was in the beginning of the reign of Malvegil of Arthedain that evil came to Arnor. For at that time the realm of Angmar arose in the North beyond the Ettenmoors. Its lands lay on both sides of the Mountains, and there were gathered many evil men, and Orcs, and other fell creatures. The lord of that land was known as the Witch-king, but it was not known until later that he was indeed the chief of the Ringwraiths, who came north with the purpose of destroying the Dúnedain in Arnor, seeing hope in their disunion, while Gondor was strong.

Ruins of the North is a game set in the north of Eriador in the ruins of Arnor between the years of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Using the One Ring RPG system the game will explore the legacy of the Dunedain and the dangers returned to that part of Middle-earth.

The End

With some semblance of a plan in mind the group confers one last time on a few points.

The contract with the dwarves is written and agreed on. Blain and Aravule go over it a few times, making adjustments here and there, and working it out to the fairness and benefit of all involved.

Hartley leaves to explain to those merchants that you are leaving town for a while. They seem to accept that without much trouble. They have lived here a long while and have seen plenty of thug groups come an go. Watcher comes with him, and makes sure he knows them and they know him, as he promises to keep an eye on them while you are gone.

Werlar and Orcare must be dealt with as well before you leave Tharbad, but for the moment the two prisoners are left in the jail and are well tended.

In fact there is much to do before you set out for Fundin's Colony. You have the letters from Nalir, the maps, and other notes, but the journey there will take you over much explored and wild lands. You will need supplies, food, tools, beasts of burden to haul it all. Nalir had several dwarves, and a raft he was going to sail down the Gwathlo with before setting out over land to the White Mountains. So the planning of the trip must begin in earnest if you are to reach the lands before autumn and the colder months arrive.

And so all your attention turns to these tasks.
I think we have come to the end of the Adventure Phase!

A short Fellowship Phase is in order, in which you can deal with getting ready. I will post more, but I will allow a Fellowship Task of 'Ready the Caravan' or 'Prepare the Expedition' sort of thing to take place. Watch the OOC for XP/AP awards and maps and other things.
