Songs of the Fellowship

Post by Vardaen » Tue Jul 07, 2015 8:35 pm

We will collect and gather the various songs from the Fellowship here. Who knows they might come up again. Let's start with a frisky tune!

In the land up north
In the town of Bree
T'was a halfling once who said that
There is much to see
In this whole wide world
And before I'm dead I'll see it

So without a thought
Or much common sense
(As his kith and kin all told him)
He took up his pack
And his pony true
Then he left his home behind him.

“Should I travel west
Where the elves set sail?
Or head eastward toward the Mountains?
To the dwarven halls
In far Erebor
Where they say gold flows in fountains?”

“No, it's south for me.
There I'll seek my fate.
There I’ll see those things that I should.”
And so south he went
Down the old Greenway
To the city on the Greyflood.

So he came one day
To those soggy fields
And the ancient ruins sinking.
As he made his way
Through old Tharbad’s streets
Then he asked, “What was I thinking?”.

In old Tharbad town
Where the men are rough,
And their women even rougher,
Where they break your nose
Just to say, "Good day!"
And might just eat you for supper.

But now in this town
What’s this chap to do
Being just a wee small halfling?
“Well I’ll earn my keep
With a merry wink
And some singing and some dancing.”

So lend your ear
As you sip your beer
To this foolish little blighter
And I hope you’ll find
That I’ve made you smile
And your day a little brighter.

A short one by Aerondil

And now that I've a pile, I'll go down to the Tharbad
I'll walk in on my feet but I'll leave there on my back
When the world is too dark and I need the light inside of me
I'll walk into a bar and drink fifteen mugs o' beer

And this other one from a ways back:

There once was a dwarf with a long black beard
And a great big chest of gold
But with all that gold he still fret and feared
That some other might grow bold
As to take his chest that he held so dear
And to leave him without naught
So he made up his mind to disappear
And to leave them all to rot

So off to the woods with his gold he fled
There to live his life alone
“My treasure is safe.” To himself he said
“And my whereabouts unknown”
But not far away sat a big old troll
With other plans for that gold
So into the camp of the dwarf he stroll
And took that dwarf in his hold.

Now off in those woods, with his belly full
And a chest of gold in his lap
The troll gnaws and gums on a dwarven skull
And settles down for a nap
Well it seems to me to be poor in things
But wealthy in friendships true
Is better by far than the wealth of kings
If you wind up in a stew.
