Chapter 2: Endless Thredony

Post by ManWithDoor » Fri Sep 07, 2018 5:22 am

With the withering of the necromantic energy, the hallway is safe-ish to pass through. You still have to step carefully to avoid mundane things such as electrocution from exposed wires, but that's nothing that you can't handle. As you rush through the ship, you hear the sounds of bony footsteps receding behind you. The mindless undead don't notice you, as they continue their search for intruders.

You pass an eerie sight as you cautiously advance. A hundred yards down the left side of the hallway is just ... gone. Empty space is a terrifying sight when just walking along supposedly inside of a spaceship. Debris floats through the vacuum outside, but your environmental suits and the artificial gravity keep you safe. For now.

The bridge of the Endless Threnody is located behind the enormous crimson eye at the front of the ship, bathed in a blood-red glow. The crew stations are fabricated from bone and steel, apparently grown from the floor and walls of this room. Battle damage is evident throughout the bridge, but it is now empty and utterly silent — truly a ghost ship.

Some of the consoles still appear to be functional. Perhaps the databanks are still intact, and contain the information you seek on the location of the lost Starfinders.

Quig is silent, for once, as you move down the exposed hall. He is happy his mag boots keep him locked to the deck hustling as fast as he can, holding onto Scout at that point. Back 'inside' safer space he moves to a terminal, "Let me see..." he attempts to bring it up and scan first for security software, and then hack in for data.

Keskodai nods.

"Jalesh, let's keep an eye out. Anybody doesn't give our friend Quig his space will face our wrath."

Jales nods and gets in position training the barrel of his rifle towards the room's entrance, staying vigilant and listening for any noise the undead might make. "Not to worry i won't let anything happen to our little friend."

Keskodai and Jales take up guard positions at the entrance while Quig goes to work on the ailing computer systems. Sensor data and astronavigation aren't even encrypted systems, so he is easily able to reconstruct the recent history of the Corpse Fleet ship. The Endless Thredony, despite its size, is truly an opportunistic scavenger. The coordinates point to an unknown planet in the Vast, with a ridiculous debris field in orbit, and a desert atmosphere. The Starfinder ship was found crashed on the surface, having fled a pirate attack and crash-landing.

The Unbounded Wayfarer was looted by the Eoxians, which is where they got the insignias in the first place. Evidently the pirates were still in the area, and they were the ones that significantly damaged the undead cruiser, and are still likely out there somewhere, continuing their piracy of deep space. Pirates not being big on negotiation, the only designation found on the ship is that it was called the Lawblight.

Since he is there anyways, the ysoki looks around for any other interesting tidbits that might be hanging around the computer database. In between crew manifests and engineering reports, he finds a heavily encrypted block of memory, clearly designed to be overlooked by a casual search. Whatever is in it is definitely only supposed to be accessed by some top officers.
You have successfully accomplished your mission on finding out where the lost Starfinder ship is. Do you push your luck, and try to access the hidden information as well?

Jalesh looks at the Ysoki amicably "what do you say Quig think you can get that data? It's probably valuable."

Quig is already jacking in with a secondary encryption module that he built himself. "I need a bit more juice, Scout come here..." he plugs a few wires in to Scout then into his module. "Of course, more data, more money." He starts the scan, first attempting to break any black ice in the way, then skirting the remaining security protocols before going to for data mine. "Here we go!"

"And more weapons against abomination. Well done, Quig!"

Keskodai chirps with excitement. He clearly sees Divine fortune's hand in their ongoing success.

Quig gathers all of his tools and resources, focusing intently on the task ahead. The encryption looks very sophisticated, likely something developed by the Eoxian government itself, rather than just some expert on the ship. After a couple minutes he comes to the conclusion that he can't decode the information on the spot, but he might be able to copy the information, allowing it to be decrypted later.

There are a number of safety measures that he has to disable to accomplish this. Black ice designed to fry his rig. Tripwires that could result in the secret information being wiped. He even finds a program that would have overloaded the console, frying him to a crisp. But after a grueling period of time, he manages to extricate the data from the ship, and copy it safe and secure to his own records.

As the feeling of victory rises within Quig, a blaring siren goes off, a wailing warning for the crew. There must have been some program he missed amongst the crowd. Whatever it signifies, it can't be good!

"I got it!"

He looks up as the klaxons ring, "Ooops, did I do that?" His nose twitched, "We better go-go, and like now-now!" He collects his gear quickly packing it up and unhooking Scout's power unit cables. He's done as quick as he can, and draws his gun, pointing at the door for the others to get going, "I'm coming go-go!"
