Chapter 2: Endless Thredony

Post by ManWithDoor » Wed Jun 13, 2018 8:40 am

After an exciting afternoon of negotiating with shifty merchants, and getting in firefights with undead monsters, each of the freelancers takes a well-deserved night's rest. Absalom Station provides whatever entertainment one could possibly want to wile away the small hours, and accommodations ranging from the majestically opulent to the cardboard box on the street. It is a place of wonders and terrors, but most importantly for you, it is the headquarters of the Starfinder Society.

After having solved one mystery, another has unfolded. The question as to the source of the sold Starfinder insignias has been resolved - an Eoxian pirate pawning them for cash. Another thread has been unveiled - the Eoxian pirate ship is adrift, and will certainly have the location of the massacred Starfinder vessel. Venture-Captain Arvin has put out the call for freelancers to seek out this mystery. Some of those that helped find the Eoxian in the first place move on to other things. Such is the nature of the modern gig economy. But others answer the call.

Each of you find yourselves first thing in the morning gathering in the front offices of the Starfinder Society. The Ysoki secretary apologizes that you'll have to wait a few minutes while the Venture-Captain finishes up a long-distance communique. The secretary is far too busy to interact further, as each limb operates almost independently - running a computer console, filling out forms on datapads, and refilling his cup with coffee with his prehensile tail.
Welcome to Chapter 2! Feel free to introduce yourselves (especially as we have a new player), and we can get the ball rolling again!

Quig sits in one of the chairs. Then he stands, then he sits, then he stands, the ysoki bounty hunter just can't sit still. He fidgets and play with something almost nonstop. He has a fuzzlehorn in hand that he's poking things with, testing out, and otherwise just playing with. There is a hum of a drone floating in the corner of the room, its keeping watch on Quig and the room, its gun hangs there ready to blow anyone away, or maybe its just dormant, its hard to tell.

With a chitter he looks around the room to see who he knows and doesn't know.

Quig's eyes find one familiar face pretty quickly.

A mustachioed shirren priest is sitting near a window in the lobby, playing an enrichment game on his handbrain with a larva in a cradle-jar. The character, popular children's cartoon Beryl the Belter, needs to break up asteroids of different shapes to find gems. As the larva points to a cone and it splits into emeralds, the cleric lets out a small coo (hiss?) of pleasure that juxtaposes oddly with the vestments of Pharasma, goddess of death.

Keskodai looks up and meets Quig's gaze. His mandibles spread in what might be a smile, he waves and beckons the ysoki to join him.

Jalesh enters the waiting are giving a small head nod towards the shirren priest and the fidgety ysoki. The large vesk takes a seat near a corner with his back to the wall, "one less direction to cover" he thought to himself as he sat. He noticed the priest playing some kind of game and couldn't help but let out a small smile. Jalesh sinks a bit in his seat and rests his head on the wall, last night's drinking had not been kind to him and he was now feeling the aftereffects. Jalesh closes his eyes for a moment. His brief repast was cut short by the coo (hiss?) emanating from the priest. With a slight shake of his head Jalesh closes his eyes again trying to relax.

Quig totters over to Keskodai, "You signed back on? Good good, wish the others had, but those yellow bellied fools don't know a good deal when it slaps them in the antenna." He glances over at Jalesh and whispers to the shirren priest, "Sort of hope that big ol'vesk is coming along, I could hide behind him in a firefight."

An amused chirp escapes the priest at Quig's enthusiasm, and he responds easily.

"If I wanted a quiet life, I'd have stayed back on the farm. It's good to see a friendly face."

To the vesk waiting somewhat groggily, Keskodai takes a tone that might, for a shirren, be jovial.

"How about you, friend? We've business with Venture-Captain Arvin today, for adventure and fortune or doom, as fate wills. Shall we have the luck of your company?"

Jalesh lets out a small laugh at Quig's comment.

Resting his eyes Jalesh turns to the priest addressing him "Sure seems that way."

Jalesh stands up and offers the pair his hand and introduces himself. "Jalesh Ishet-Rodamn"

At that perfect point of introduction, the Ysoki secretary speaks up in his rapid-fire speech, letting you know that the Venture-Captain is ready, and stops just shy of physically pushing you in to the office, before literally leaping back into his chair to continue working.

In contrast to the fast paced environment outside, the Venture-Captain's office is calm and quiet. It's not just the sound-proofing, but the man himself. The damaya Lashunta holds himself with a kind of dignity that speaks of measured confidence. He nods to each of you, inviting you to take a seat. "Welcome. Thank you for continuing with the Starfinders, Quig and Keshodai. You do good work. And Jalesh, your reputation precedes you. I need reliable contractors, and you all fit the bill."

He stands up, and moves to the front of his desk, making the context less formal. "Thank you again for finding the insignias. May I see them now?"

Quig hands over the insignia that he had taken during the find, he didn't take them all, just his share. It takes him two minutes of frantic pocket searching and finally he dumps out a pouch on the floor full of bits and pieces, parts and whoosi-whatis, "Ah here!" He hands it over, certain that Keskodai has a few more of them.

Keskodai produces the remaining insigniae from a pocket in his vestments. Handing them to Arvin, he moves to a seat, the cradle-jar in his lap.

"The sigils of your fellows recovered, Venture-Captain, how might we assist you from here?"
