Chapter 2: Endless Thredony

Post by ManWithDoor » Sun Oct 14, 2018 2:41 am

The cleric and the warrior stand their ground, while the mechanic runs on ahead. Keskodai gathers his divine might, and thrusts it into the mind of the undead champion. Unlike his previous attempt back on Absalom Station, this creature does not seem to be immune to mind-affecting spells. It is still, however, a hardy being, and the thrust does not hit as hard as desired. Jalesh braces his rifle, and blasts the monster. It isn't moving at all, so all the shots land.

The attacks seem to have wakened its mind to a certain extent. It raises its head and looks at Keskodai, as though seeing him for the first time. It takes a first hesitant step forward, and pauses as though making sure it remembers how to walk properly. It slowly begins to accelerate, although it is still slower than any of you.

Quig runs up on ahead, his way clear. The sounds of battle grow louder, and he can begin to understand the shouts. One man yells out that they have to get out of there, that nobody could possibly still be alive on the ship. As the ysoki turns the last corner, he sees Barkley backhand one of his men, then takes a large lead pipe and crushes the skull of a skeleton in front of him. "Nobody retreats! We're Starfinders, for gods sake. We never leave a man behind." The squad of skeletons that you managed to dodge earlier are attacking the crew!
Keskodai: Mind Thrust - Saved - 13/2 = 6 Damage
Jalesh: Fire - Nat 20! 9 + 7 = 16 Damage
Undead Champion: Slowed. Has crossed about 1/3 of the distance from its start to Keskodai/Jalesh.

Health Update:
Undead Champion: -22
Jalesh: 0 SP, 13/13 HP

Quig arrives at the loading bay to see the crew under attack, he draws his pistol and fires into one of the skeletons that's most clear of the crew so he doesn't hit anyone. Then he shouts and waves over the din, "We are coming! Don't leave yet! Don't leave yet!"

He looks to Scout, "Go, go back and get the others, we need to get off here, they don't have time to fight that thing!" He sends Scout back to find the others.
Not sure how many actions I can get in but Shoot Skeletons, Move Scout back to the others.

Next round or when Scout arrives I'll use his speakers to talk to the other PCs

Quig hugs the last corner he turned, aiming his pistol downrange. The Starfinder crew have roughly barricaded the area around their landing zone, but clearly hadn't been anticipating a real attack. Stacked pallets make it much harder for the skeletons to swarm, but that's about it. A couple of the crew are down, wounded or dead it's hard to tell. Barkley's head swivels around, missing where the ysoki is in the chaos of battle. "See! Of course they're alive. Fight on, men. Victory is at hand!"

In his triumph of leadership, he gets blindsided by the skeleton he had 'brained' earlier, who isn't quite done fighting. Despite having only half a skull remaining, it rises back up and grabs the human's face with one bony hand. In a flash, a bullet crashes the vertebrae of the undead, collapsing it entirely. Barkley looks around in panicked surprise, and then sees Quig at the corner, smoking gun in hand.

Meanwhile, Scout makes good on its name, zooming at a blur back through the corridors. In just a few moments it gets back to the rearguard, alarms blaring. It circles the duo, then zooms back down the corridor towards the ship for a few meters, revving its engines. Then it stops, expectantly.
I'm totally fine with getting more Cinematic with such things, especially since it's for communication rather than trying to cheese the system. Heck, talking is a 'Free Action'. There's no way people could get in most of the RP dialogue in combat that gets posted. But it's way Awesome-er if they can.

Also, let's say you can also use it like a Conference Phone. Makes total sense, having two-way communication built in. Heck, you could probably have a little pop-up screen so you can "FaceTime".

Quig fire on Skeletons: 21 Hit, 5 Damage. Kills wounded Skeleton. 5 left remaining.

Scout's audio systems start shouting, in Quigs voce shouting through the speaker, "GO GO! SHIP UNDER ATTACK HURRY UP!"

*POW* *POW* *POW* *POW*

Gunfire sounds cut off Quig's voice.

Keskodai's compound eyes gleam with conflict. This abomination must be destroyed, but shirren history has always shown that the first material duty is to the Many.

"En route!" The priest nods to Jalesh, prompting him to make for the ship while Pharasma's servant brings up the rear.

The insectoid cleric runs on ahead, following the path back to the ship. Jalesh lays down covering fire, his blasts doing no real harm, but acting to slow down the elite undead. He blasts open holes in the floor, making the still-awakening creature trip and falter, losing ground. Scout hovers protectively over his head, blaring out discordant alarms at the undead.

The humans and skeletons continue their desperate melee. The skeletons are basically mindless, just rushing forward to crush and destroy, with no subtlety or group tactics. The humans work together as a team, and use their equipment and impromptu barricade to their advantage. But they tire, and bleed, and sometimes panic. Barkley keeps them together for the moment, but they don't manage to down any more of the undead. In fact, they are close to being pushed back from the barricade, and running back to the ship.
Keskodai double move towards Quig (caught up).
Jalesh does a fighting retreat. Rolled a 2, so missed. I'll count it nice as 'Covering Fire', slowing down the Undead Champion.
Sorry guys, really been struggling with the anxiety. Managing to do well at the new job, and then come home and basically just crash on the couch. The weekend did me good, playing doting uncle to my two nieces. Thank you for your patience.

"Forward!"

Quig leads the charge to the men behind the barricade. He is firing, finger holding down the trigger, into the undead. Hopefully he can knock out a few of the already damaged ones and clear a path with the others.

Scout's guns open fire too, focusing on those that Quig is shooting at.

"Mother of Graves, cleanse these monsters!"

Keskodai reaches the barricade, forcing positive energy into the Eoxians.
Channel Energy and Harm Undead in the location it will do the most good. 2 RP, so I hope it works.
