Chapter 3: The Unbounded Wayfarer

Post by Vardaen » Fri Feb 22, 2019 4:50 pm

No panels are active throughout the area of the ship that Quig searches until reaching the bridge. He makes some sad squeaking noises on seeing the dead bodies, no food, no water, and that worries him greatly. He moves up to one of the panels on the bridge, and runs an auxiliary power cable from Scout to the panel, just to give it a boost of juice as he starts to seek the captain's logs. For the moment he ignores the Starfinder port, but if he manages to get no place he points it out and has someone plug in a Starfinder badge.

Jalesh follows deeper into the bowels of the ship, pausing for a moment at the sight of the dead bodies, bad way to go, he thinks to himself. Upon hearing the Ysoki's sad squeaking Jalesh pads the ratman on the head in a comforting way. "I know buddy." With a shake of his head Jalesh makes his way towards the ship's cockpit, seeing the state of it bring some sadness over him that even the dead bodies couldn't manage.

Keskodai is last to make it to the bridge, having briefly said a blessing over the corpses. When he arrives, he betrays none of his friends' remorse, instead showing Chk-Chk, his jarred, larval son, the ship's various controls and functions.

The living search through the ship of the dead. Not an abomination like the Corpse Fleet vessel, but one that has become a mournful tomb. The priest of Pharasma blesses the deceased, helping their souls on the the judgment of the Lady of Graves. Her realm may be a grey one, but it is not unkind or cruel.

Quig finds a mess in the computer systems. He might be able to find his way through the architecture given enough time, but it would be a damn big headache. Following his instinctive prompt at seeing the indentation, he takes one of the Starfinder insignias and slots it into the impression. The space lights up as the sensor scans the ident code with the symbol, then it glows green. The damaged computer unlocks, and a number of side compartments unfold from the walls.

All of the compartments lay empty but one. They were clearly raided by the crew and used for whatever purpose they needed to try to survive. Tucked in a corner is a small box which contains a twinkling purple stone. The computers themselves are almost completely corrupted, but the datafile containing their logbook is partially intact.
- Elytrio - a wasteland planet displaying signs of scattered technology
- Lamentia - a sentient asteroid teeming with morlock "children" in the Vast
- End of Bright Things - a massive space station stuck between the orbits of two blue dwarf stars
- Wealdriad - a stormy, oceanic world with upthrust columns of basalt piercing the storm-tossed ocean's surface
Treasure = Iridescent Spindle Aeon Stone: This aeon stone sustains you by negating the need to breathe.

Having confirmed the fate of the Starfinder crew and recovered their Log Book, you have completed your assigned Mission.

Zindfal watches the party search the Bridge passively. As they probe the various computer systems he heads back to the galley. He kneels down before the former crew of the vessel and bows his head uttering a passage from a Cycle Text that speaks of passing into the next Cycle. He meditates silently in front of the passed for a few minutes and then silently returns to the Bridge where he continues to watch over his saviours.

Zindfal speaks in a somber tone "Did this ship belong to friends of yours?"

Tap-tap-taptap-tap, smack!

Quig twitches, "Bad-bad, all the files are bad-bad, all I can get... four useful lines of code." He downloads the log file, in a sequestered section of his data pad so any corruptions doesn't spread. Then the twinkling purple stone grabs his eye, and he grabs the stone. It isn't greed per say, is instinct, something new something shiny. He takes hold of it in his hair paws and whistles, "Ooooo shiny."

"The Starfinders hired us to locate the ship and its crew. The Mother of Graves has delivered us to both, and we meet you in the bargain!"

If the implication of the crew's deaths bothers the shirren, he gives no sign. Instead, he holds up the cradle-jar he carries.

"This is my son, Chk-Chk. He has travelled with us, learning much. He is quickly progressing beyond the metrics typical to his age."

When Keskodai is finished introducing his son, Zindfal bows his head to the cradle-jar. As he speaks there is not a hint of patronization in his voice, giving you the impression he means his words "It is an honor to meet you, Chk-Chk." He returns his attention to the adult Shirren. "Is it common for the Shirren to bring their young on adventures such as this or have you taken these steps to help nourish his growing mind?"

"It is rare for parents to be called as I am to the service of a goddess. When I was called, my mates and I agreed the boy would most benefit from exposure to new places and peoples. When my service is complete, we can return at last to the farm and be together as a family."

Some ambivalence might be heard in Keskodai's voice. Perhaps he is torn by his love for adventure and his love for his family. Or perhaps there is dust in his mandibles. Who can say?

Not wanting to interrupt the beaming father, Jalesh busies himself looking through the ship's log and registering all of the information for safe keeping.
