Chapter 1: Caged

Ancient and powerful, the rulers of the Calabim posses a dark secret. Through fell ritual their lives can be prolonged at the expense of others, and by this act Alexis and Flauros have created a decadent vampiric aristocracy. Their battlefield success comes at a price they are only too happy to pay -- the blood of their human thralls, kept in miserable conditions to serve as little more than cattle. This secret would surely incense all honorable nations of Patria, but could even the strongest compare to the might of a vampire lord? Perhaps their enemies are willing to dismiss the ugly rumors as just that, to avoid the danger of sharing the fate of the sad Calabim humans.

Haven Fara - Searching for Survivors

Eyris agrees. "Find friends, us. Help you maybe find others, us. Then move on, far away from slavers. Back to Malakim Deserk, me."

Haven Fara - Searching for Survivors

Mongo perks up. "Search? Rescue? Like that. Make village safe for little children to live again. Maybe find more family, be happy." He stands back up straight, although he does still stay away from touching any webs still.

Searching for Survivors: Dusk

You decide its time to search for more survivors. Both of the village and your fellow former prisoners. So working together with Marric and Arianna you sweep the town and located a few more people hiding out, then you venture out into the hill spending the rest of the day in a search. You discover a dozen more people, a few of them children, hidden in caves and small valleys. When the sun starts to set you return to town. While you managed to locate villagers, all signs point to the fact that your former companions fled and are long gone. You did not see any signs of recent slaver activity, and so you can rest easy, for now, in the village of Haven Fara.
Village Key:
A - "The Good Fortune" In the center of town is a grounded ship. Its three masts, complete with crow's nest, prop up the web like poles in a gossamer circus tent. Permanent additions have been built out from the hull, but its unmistabkly a beached vessel - forecastle, rails, and all. A richly carved and gold leafed sign read "The Good Fortune". Within the ship's hull has been turned into a pub, guttered and floored to accommodate long tables and stools. Wood stoves sit at the either end, and dozens of mungs dangle from hooks along the rafters.

B - The Town Jail
C - Small Hut
D - The Black Fly Pub
E - General Store
F - The Machy Home
G - Various Aranea Homes
H - Graveyard

Mongo is still skittish around the spider-people, but is getting less so as time progresses. He tries to spend more time around the children. If nothing else, they're small and thus less threatening. As he gathers near the others sometime in the day, he looks quizzical. "What do everyone now? Had been kidnapped by slavers, escaped. Go home to family village? Not sure where am, could not find way back home if wanted to. What do with life?"

Eyris has been silent for some time, but relaxes more and more.
I dunno if the store is open now, but if it is, she will try to get some equipment.

Haven Fara: A Few Days Later

Post by Vardaen » Tue Aug 06, 2019 6:21 pm

The search for survivors and the hunt for your companions takes a few days, and you need a few days rest. Life in Haven Fara is far from normal but they locals do their best to get back to living it. There are only 21 survivors of the slaver attack, nearly half the town was captured or killed. Most of the survivors are those children that you rescued. The villagers go about opening their stores, fixing their homes, cultivating their web farms (where they collect meat from captured wildlife like more traditional hunters or trappers might).

Everyone is pleased with your efforts, but you are kept at mandible's length most of the time it seems. They are not used to outsiders, and for Mongo keeping the spider people at a distance is good. You are given a small home to use, its previous occupants are missing or dead. You've had enough time to rest and recover, to reflect on your trials and to hone your experiences into new found insights.

The question now becomes, what do you do next? Where do you go, do you dig into the artifact's history that you found? Do you hunt and track the slavers more? Should you attempt to return home to your various tribes? Or should you just settle down here in Haven Fara?
I'm going to wait a bit for Othniel to finish up, I think I may toss him at you with a Hook as well. Or at least info on one of the hooks.

Haven Fara: A Few Days Later

Mongo sidles up to Eyris, looking troubled. "Big smith artifact, belonging to Gods. Worries Mongo. Too big, not know what to do with it. Bury it? Break it? Use it?" He shakes his head in befuddlement. "Mongo know how to beat up slavers, make them give back good Spider people. Not know how to handle God things."

"It came into our lives for a reason, Mongo."

In the days since their emergence Tolan has not let a night pass without considering the casting, holding it, turning it in the firelight.

"We owe it to our friends to harass the slavers, but this thing is our responsibility now. It comes with us."

Mongo considers this, and then nods. "Yes, bad people might use it to do evil. If can bind a God, what else could it do? At least we not use it for evil." He looks around at the village, still feeling empty even after the rebuilding. "But many still lost. Best to rescue from slavers first, then figure out magical binding thing."
