Chapter 2: Playing With Fire

Ancient and powerful, the rulers of the Calabim posses a dark secret. Through fell ritual their lives can be prolonged at the expense of others, and by this act Alexis and Flauros have created a decadent vampiric aristocracy. Their battlefield success comes at a price they are only too happy to pay -- the blood of their human thralls, kept in miserable conditions to serve as little more than cattle. This secret would surely incense all honorable nations of Patria, but could even the strongest compare to the might of a vampire lord? Perhaps their enemies are willing to dismiss the ugly rumors as just that, to avoid the danger of sharing the fate of the sad Calabim humans.

Mongo stands impressed that the Commander could spare such a quality and detailed map. Their Order must be even better resourced than they already looked, to be so charitable with a random group of adventurers. "Thank you." He keeps it simple, as the soldier has things to get to. He practically stabs the map with his forefinger, pointing out Grimdale. "So we're here." He then realizes that he is crumpling the map with his finger and sharply pulls it back, then tries to straighten it out. Likely unsuccessfully. Or might be making it worse.

Order of Lietbur Encampment: Aid and Enemies

Th camp is rallying around you in a great frenzy of energy. Men and woman race here and there grabbing shields and spears. Some are packing down the tents and supplies and you quickly feel out of place and just in the way. A horn is blown three times and men mount up with long lances, pennons snapping in the air, as they muter.

You hear one shout, "Silver at the ready men, werewolves spotted among the rabble!" before a dozen men ride off charging to the north their hooves thundering against the dirt. More and more soldiers are readied and march out while some stay behind to guard the porters and others who are breaking camp in an orderly and efficient manner. In half an hour you guess this large camp will be packed and moving out.

"Is that a picture of the city? It's very small." Eyris shrugs. "The big question is, where do we go now? We could go into the Malakim desert."

Mongo grabs up the map in one hand, sprinting out of the tent after the men who he overheard as they rode by. He yells after them, hoping they hear over the din of the camp moving out. "Werewolves! We met them! They are not evil!" He is trying his best to catch up to explain what they know. Given their numbers, and their readied silver, the werewolves could be killed for no good reason.

A few men glance at Mongo as he shouts but they are on the move and ignore him.

You are soon left to your own devices, with a clear path on the map or perhaps some other choice as you watch the solider march off to do battle.
