Book 1: Crownfall, Act 1: All The King's Men

As the political scene in Taldor explodes into chaos, heroes take on the mantle of agents, advocates, and saboteurs working for Princess Eutropia to help secure her claim to the Imperial throne and prevent the Empire from collapsing in on itself in civil war. Will they grow from relative nobodies to powerful politicians and spymasters in the deadliest political arena in the Inner Sea?

"Ah Fu...", Theodrix is quick to action, often bullied as a child he knows when a fight is coming and he reacts as quick as anyone, and quicker than some. His hidden blade is yanked from its hiding place. "We have to cut a way out of here and get the Queen and Lady Martella out of here!" He looks left and right, "Where is that damn guard we paid off to help us when we need them?"
So we paid off a guard that was working for Martella here: viewtopic.php?p=358033#p358033

I'm assuming that means we were able to slip in small weapons (daggers, etc) but not our longswords. Correct me if I'm wrong.
In his right hand his dueling dagger slides from under his leather curiass, all day that was poking him, but that discomfort was well worth it now. In his other hand is a smoke pellet ready to throw to cover the escape, "Princess! This way! Let's go!" He charges at one of the nearest uncloaked enemies guarding the exit to the chamber. Let's home my companions have as sharp of swords as they do tongues.

Mercutio seems to have a quip for every situation, but this time it is laced with his magical talents, however annoying his flow of words might be, however inappropriate, they somehow strikes a chord of hope and determination in everyone present. Well, not those blackguards trying to kill everyone present. Those only get to appreciate the annoying part of the show.
I think he got a rapier in because nobility, but inspire courage for +1 to attack, damage and some saving throws to all allies (everyone on the receiving end of the massacre) should likely have far greater effect.

Aurelia is quote shocked at all this, and sits there frozen, mouth agape for a few seconds before she is brought out of her daze by Theodrix's shouting. "Ye...yes...gotta get out of here. Not sure how we can get to the princess though."

She has a dagger, but her mind is focused on using her magic to daze anyone that rushes to attack them. Aurelia follows Theodrix.
If anyone hostile approaches, Cast DAZE on them. DC 14 will save

Brother Betram straightens up, not needing his walking staff now, but wielding it like a weapon, he follows the others, fending off attacks and trying to get the princess and the lady to safety.

One of the surprise assailants runs towards the group, a sword flashing. Mercutio draws his rapier and parries the blow, thrusting with the tip to force the man back. Aurelia has enough time to cast one of her spells, and the black-clad man staggers in place. Brother Bertram spins his staff and disarms the man, while Theodrix rushes in and guts the bastard.

Several cloaked figures near the Princess doff their coverings, pulling weapons and engaging the Stavian agents. Leading the group is the helpful guard from before, Kathann Zalar. She leaps into battle, shouting, "Lion Blades! To your duties! Defend the Senate! Defend Taldor!" Even Martella Lotheed and Princess Eutropia draw their weapons to fight back against the assassins. With this strange group protecting her, it appears that the Princess and her entourage are making some progress toward the exits.

You are not so lucky. Despite your skill, more assailants move in. Crichton steps just slightly too far to the side, and one of the enemy agents gets a clean shot at him. A wide swipe of the sword takes him in the chest, and you see his Senate Aide badge break off and fly into the crowd. He falls to the ground, making a space for others to rush in. As the mercenaries raise gore-soaked swords and the hammer falls, there is a blinding flash of light, and when it fades, only blackness and the smell of cold earth remain ...
End of Act One!!! We will discover the Fate of our Heroes in the upcoming chapter ... "Lost In History".
