It is an oddity of this universe that even in the bleakest of dungeons, inspirational music can immediately brighten the heart and strengthen the sinews. Mercutio knows this down to his bones, and acts accordingly.

Bertram has said little of his background or training, but his keen eye and deep knowledge speak loudly in his actions. Knowing that his quarterstaff can sweep away swarms such as these, he moves up alongside Theodrix, and repeatedly slams his staff with all his might at the compact crowd of vermin ... and leaves little behind except a few of them fleeing as fast as their little legs can take them the hell away from here!

Aurelia moves forward as well to get closer to the over-sized, self-aggrandizing rat on the ceiling. When she gets within whatever predetermined range she thought up, she begins intoning arcane words as a grey sphere takes shape between her hands. It is not readily apparent what the material is made of, but as she finishes her conjuration she throws it up at the ceiling, right at the opposing spellcaster. It hits him right in the face ... and it turns out to be mud. The great Dagio is blinded and almost loses his grip on the ceiling. His claws scrabble as he re-secures his position, and wipes the mud out of his eyes.

Theodrix has now been made safe from the rats by Bertram, but Astraea is not so lucky. However, she has gotten over the surprise ambush, and is able to deftly maneuver her shield to stand between her and the bulk of the swarm, and few are able to get into the joints of her armor to bite.
Mercutio: Inspire Courage (+1 competence to attack/damage).

Bertram (GM control): Move up and Power Attack w/ Quarterstaff, targeting Rat Swarm (left). Swarm has no damage reduction vs Bludgeoning.
--- 1d20+2+1 = 18+3 = 21, Hit! 1d8+6 Damage = 4+6 = 10. Rat Swarm (left) is Dead!!!

Aurelia (GM control): Move forward. Mudball (targeting the goddamn rat Wizard), ranged touch attack to Blind.
--- 1d20+3+1 = 15+4 = 19, Hit!

Dagio the Great: Reflex DC 15 to Negate (free action at beginning of round) - 12, Fail!
--- Standard Action used to clear away the Mudball. Effectively lost his turn this way.
--- Acid Arrow has its second round of Acid damage on Theodrix (4). Now no longer effective.

Swarm (right): 1d6 Damage to Astraea = 1. Good luck there!

Swarm(left) - DEAD
Swarm(right) -6
Dagio the Great - Unharmed (up near the ceiling)

Astraea: 9/16 HP
Theodrix: 3/15 HP

Focusing on the rats assaulting her and hoping the others can deal with the big one, Astraea continues to hack away at the teeming swarm of vermin.

Mercutio continues his performance, but this time reserving more venomous words towards the rat, and one special note that only the arch-whatever can hear, and that one will be boxing his ears real good.
Ear Piercing scream at him for 1d6 damage and fortitude DC 15 or be dazed
1 more round of bardic music

Bertram grins slightly as he hits the rat swarm.

Theodrix screams, "I'm melting!" He peals away a piece of acid covered leather and tosses it to the ground. He plunges his hand into a pocket on his vest and pulls out a vial of bright green fluid. He uncorks it and drinks it down before tossing the empty vial at the rat swarm for good measure. Feeling the power of the healing potion in him he turns his gaze at the thing on the ceiling.
CLW Potion please. Sheet updated to remove it.

5ft toward the enemy (not the rats)

Aurelia looks up and is annoyed by the rat being so far up. "Let's see if I can bring him back down to earth. But first, some foreplay..."

Stepping 5ft to the south, she looks up at Dagio, and gives him 'the eye', hopefully unnerving him and making him more susceptible to various effects.
5ft stepped south (already moved).
Use Evil Eye (Will save DC15) to reduce the rat's saves by 2. 7 rounds duration. Save reduces duration to 1 round.

"Holy Cayden Cailean, these are vile beasts!" Bertram moves to the other swarm and sweeps at them with his staff.

Astraea and Bertram double-team the remaining rat swarm, their weapons stamping out the biting nuisances. Patches of bloody fur and flattened bodies are splattered around, making the vermin stink even worse.

Cleric Jowuan rushes into the room and releases a burst of healing energy. As a worshipper of his mercantile god, this isn't his forte. But some healing is better than nothing. More is needed by Theodrix, so he pulls out and chugs down a blood-red potion, his acid-burned skin growing back, the disintegrated hair reappearing before your very eyes.

The Enchantress steps up to almost directly underneath Dagio the Great, calling upon her powers to curse the rat, manipulating the currents of fate to force a worse result. The problem there is that the Wizard is a supernatural being, and her fledgling powers are unable to penetrate through his arcane defenses.

However, Dagio's attention has been drawn far too heavily to Aurelia's actions. Mercutio finds an opening by opening his mouth towards the dire rat. Nobody else can hear anything, but the fur on his face flattens down as though in a strong wind and he cries out in pain, unable to act until he composes himself once again.
Astraea: Attack Rat Swarm with Longsword, 1d20+(4) = 21, Hit for 1d8+(3) = 6 Damage, divided by 2 = 3 Damage.

Bertram: Attack Rat Swarm with Quarterstaff, 1d20+(4) = 18, Hit for 1d6+(4) = 10 (soft crit!). Rat Swarm dead!!!

Cleric Jowuan (NPC): Channel Positive Energy. 1d6 = 3 Healing to all Allies (not your enemies).

Theodrix: Drink CLW Potion. 1d8+1 = 5 Healing to Self.

Aurelia: Evil Eye, Will DC 15. 1d20+x = Nat 20! Shrugs off the debuff effects.

Mercutio: Ear Piercing Scream, Fortitude 15. 1d20+x = 8! Definite failure.
- 1d6 Damage = 5, plus 1 round Dazed

Dagio the Great: Dazed. Can't do shit!

Swarm(left) = DEAD
Swarm(right) = DEAD
Dagio the Great = -5 HP

Astraea: 12/16 HP
Theodrix: 11/15 HP
Rule Number 12: "A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head."

The enchantress is glad those rat swarms are taken care of. Her top is already in tatters. It wouldn't survive a rat swarm chewing on it! She glances at her crossbow. Sure, she can take some shots at the rat spellslinger, but it'd be so much more efficient to bring the thing down.

Focusing her magical hex energy, she directs it at the rat. It works...almost TOO well. The rat apparently falls asleep immediately, and begins to fall from the rafters. Rushing in her heels to get underneath the falling rodent, Aurelia has a clever thought and rips off her top. She uses her top as a makeshift safety-net, and she catches the rat just in the nick of time!

Now, an unconscious rat is before them, at the party's mercy. "Quick, tie it up before it wakes up! We should question it."
